Yes, there's a fee associated with each secondary. Plus AMCAS fees. Secondary fees are usually in the range of $70-100, although I've had some go as high as $130 (Georgetown). AMCAS is $160 (I think?) for the first school, and $30 per additional school - and those are charged just to submit your primary to those schools, regardless of if they offer you a secondary or not.

I've applied to 32 schools, and my application fees have been close to $4000. And that's without getting a secondary from three of the schools (OOS state schools). You'd be close to that at 27, probably around $3500 depending on secondary fees.
honestly, I haven't added up the secondaries because the total would probably make me cry. st0w is right- AMCAS is 160 for application + 1 school, 30 for each additional. So my AMCAS alone was $1000 on the nose. not sure what the AACOMAS fees are... my highest secondary fee was Georgetown at 130, lowest was Cincinnati at 25..

don't forget to add in the costs of Interfolio- 4-5 bucks per school depending on whether or not they do electronic submission- and if you want them overnighted or 2-3 day delivery, you'll pay more. and postage- some schools you have to mail in your secondary, so if you do return receipt or some such, that adds up...

:laugh::meanie:
It was challenging. Lots of questions about everything: from right to die, to fixing the insurance system, to a solution for underserved/rural areas, to explaining how my engineering background would not be a problem, to what have I learned on the ambulance, to what I will like least about being a physician. I can't remember them all. I stumbled on the Canadian healthcare system question. Doh. I just blanked and couldn't remember which was Canada and which was GB and which was France, etc. Anyway, I can meet with them again later to get feedback on my performance, but I think I did fine.

The interviewers were very pleasant -- joking now and again -- so it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I wouldn't do it again in my free time for fun, but it was good practice and probably as challenging as anything I'm likely to see "on the road."

I love my SDN but i am glad that i didn't read this before my pre-health committee interview...mine was soo laid back.. i wasn't nervous at all...i felt like all he wanted to do was help me and we chatted for like 2 hours he even kept staying later and let me sit while he had a phone interview with some one else... which was like ten mins...anyhootie... good luck to everyone with interviews.... so far i have UNECOM, and WVSOM... but my packet was just sent last week...

Congrats megboo!!! Knock em deaed!

Submitted LECOM and PCOM today (including the 11th hour rush to the post office to get it out), which makes me done with secondary applications. Now, the waiting begins...

Frustrated with this whole processa nd its not even the process that I'm frustrated with. Its my personal life. Part of me wishes I would ahve waited to apply until next year but I don't want to wait. And its not like I'm applying to more than 2 schools. I need to work on my secondaries but MCAT comes first and I haven't gotten the studying done that I'd like. It seems like my personal life keeps getting in the way and I really am disheartened because what if things liket his continue to happen to me? I know I can balance both but I never thought that just little family things could be such big deals!

Congrats megboo!

Even getting one interview - ANY interview - gets you one step closer toward being a doctor. That's what we're all working towards at the end of the day - representing the "D" in SDN. 😀

Good :luck::luck::luck:!

Mush, sometimes SDN subliminally sucks a lot of time from my day. When I am studying hard-core I have to put it on hold and drop it for a while.

I know you are really involved with this site, but maybe it would help to put it on hold until after your MCAT. The last one of the season is less that 3 weeks away so it's not that long.

Just a bit of advice.

Ironically, I have cut back and its not SDN that is the issue right now (although I was very busy with stuff last month hence why I had to cut back). Its more of just things happening to me. Like first MCAT I was coordinating the move across country, this MCAT got family health issues. More about it in my blog (i'm back to blogging again).

My husband said that its time I stop thinking of everyone else and put myself first. But I'm having a huge problem with that with good reason as the guilt sinks in when the parents complain about me not "rushing" home.

Oh and 'grats on the interview!!!!! :hardy: They'll start flowing in soon 😉

I hear you on that front - I'm a people-pleaser too, and my husband says the same thing to me: take time for myself.

It's easier for him to say though - he works an 8-hour a day job and isn't trying to get into med school!

AMCAS verified me! Yay!

My MCAT score is over 30! Barely! and I got an "O" which blows! But still yay!

I've received about 8 secondaries in the last 24 hours. This makes me happy.

I just got Mt. Sinai, and I know it's not screened, and I know they're going to laugh at me, but I'm still so excited about this school that ANY attention feels like love.

(I'm doomed, aren't I?)

Yeah, right!

Do you want my honest opinion? LOL!

I got the VirtualEvals email that my committee letter was uploaded. The people in the office tell me that it has also been downloaded by the school already!

I think the adcom meets on Thursdays. Now that my file is complete maybe they'll review my application -- tomorrow? 😱

Crossing my fingers and toes for you!

FINALLY... Pitt processed my LORs today, 8/22. They only went there via VirtualEvals on 7/19. 😛

To those who are complete at Pitt (cough*Quix*cough*), do they send any particular notification that you're complete, or do you just assume it when they show your fee, supplemental, and LORs complete on the status page? How long after completion were you notified of interview?

I just tracked the progress on the status page. The interview e-mail came shortly thereafter at about 7 PM.

Isn't it delightful to see your inbox full of secondaries after weeks of waiting for verification from AMCAS?

I have to remind myself of this feeling when essay-writing exhaustion sets in.

It's worth it when you get your first "The admissions committee is pleased to invite you..." message. Interviews from Pitt, UVa, and Case... I am so thrilled.

does anyone know when osu-chs in tulsa, ok will start sending out interview invitations?

I got my first rejection the other day: Univ. Washington MSTP. Not a shocker. There will probably be plenty more where that came from. At least I didn't have to pay for the secondary. Still, I'm curious as to why they didn't even want me to advance to the secondary stage. I'll have to send them an e-mail.

FINALLY submitted Kentucky's secondary today (after sitting on it for *only* two months). Also got in Pritzker and Rush last night. 👍

Only 2 left, and those are going to have to wait a little bit...

i've probably called them enough for a little while. Will wait another couple of weeks before I call them again. Would hate for them to move me down the list. I thought it would be october before they sent anything out, just hoping they do it early.

I never received anything from them last year, and then finally in November I called them up and asked if something was missing from my file and when I might expect to receive a secondary and was told that it had been up on their website for some time. So it won't be sent to you (at least it wasn't to me), you'll have to check on their website. It's worth giving them a call for yourself. They have a real fast turn around (I was invited to interview - it comes by phone - about a week after I was complete there). Good luck!

Is it not enough that next month I'll be another year older and another year more "non-trad"?

No, apparently not according to the computer system at Walgreen's. Because when I checked out today, it spit out its little coupon for me-

"YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A FREE AARP MEMBERSHIP!"

😡

Today:

+1 Rosalind Franklin interview invite (3:23pm)
-1 Boston Univ post-secondary rejection (4:22pm)

Can't they get together and time these things better? Like send the rejection first, and then a short while later the invite? There should be a tacit agreement that rejections be sent in the morning, and invites in the afternoon.

Bygones.

Who likes Boston anyway, right? Horrible accents, just horrible. And I've decided that to stay sane through this process that I'm only allowed to get depressed over instate rejections.

Ack. Sorry, pingouin. They're Walgreens, don't listen to them. What do they know? Anyway, I'll be 33 in October if that helps any.... And anyway, I firmly believe that non-trads are looking more and more appealing to med schools. So flaunt that non-tradability!

It would help if you weren't still younger than me. 😉

Quite honestly, I was just trying to figure out what the hell I bought that might make the computer think "old person". I burned the hell out of the back of my hand the other day (probably 2nd degree) and was replenishing my supply of Band-Aids and Neosporin. 😕

oh, and some lightbulbs.

This old non-trad got an interview invite today from MSU CHM!!!!!!

In the grand tradition of getting solicited to apply for programs we have no interest in, I'm happy to announce that Columbia has suggested I apply for their Masters in Nutrition program. (I didn't even apply to their medical school....)

When, oh when, can I look forward to getting podiatry offers? 🙄

(not that there's anything wrong with podiatry, of course. if you like other peoples' feet.)

LOL. I got that invitation yesterday as well. I'm not so happy with the AAMC selling my email address. 👎

Yay Loyola!!! Luckily I've taken to bringing my cellphone into the bathroom with me when I get ready in the morning (yes, I'm being neurotic, but you never know!) - and Loyola called *just* as I was stepping (one leg already) into the shower to invite me to intervew. I then stood there naked and dripping because the woman on the other end said that it must be scheduled right then and there, and could not be changed. She was very brusque, but I was so ecstatic I didn't even care. You should have heard me singing in the shower! And boy was I glad that my cell was a pda and I could check my schedule without moving! 😀

That's funny Phoenix!!

I wish MSU would have asked about my schedule. The practice I am at chartered a plane to fly up north to golf for the day I am to interview!!!! I was really looking forward to it, but am NOT COMPLAINING. At least this way, I don't have to move any patients since my schedule was already cleared for the day.

Wow, so if you're not available the one date they give you, that's it? I can't believe that! Loyola said that I could switch the initial date I was offered (9/13 - I was flying that day to DC), but that once we hung up, the date I selected (9/27) would be final and couldn't be changed thereafter. But to not even give an option of changing the intial date? Way harsh. Did you try to call them and change it? Some schools seem pretty laid back about it while others, not so much. When I called to move my GWU invite to a Friday, they were very friendly about it and didn't even ask why. And UVM said that if I needed to, I could interview a week later. When I asked RFU if they were flexible, they said that they were not. You basically get one of two offered dates. *shrug* So you might want to give a call and see what MSU actually says over the phone. And congrats on the invite!

Two pieces of correspondence today.

(1) LECOM asking for my DO letter, which is entirely out of my hands.

(2) A big envelope from Drexel marked admissions!

But it looks like it's advertising from a graduate program in public health.

EDIT:

Just made my hotel reservation for G'town. Yee-hah.

The two e-mails they sent said NOTHING about an offer to change your date if needed and I don't want to call and I don't want to get anyone miffed. I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth . Like I said, as much as I was looking forward to flying up north to golf, it really does work out because my schedule is getting crazy full at work (I am an ortho NP) and that day was already cleared for the trip. Thanks for the support! James

PS That stinks about the thick envelope with acceptance written on it!!!

....and I just got my first solicitation from a Caribbean school........

*tosses it in virtual trash bin*

Need to stay land-locked. Family stuff.

ha ha

was it from Sint Eustatius?

In other news, I finally booked my hotel room for my 9/14 DMU interview.

MCAT 1.5 weeks away and all I have to say is "whatever!"

Good luck megboo. Tame that BEAST!!!!!

hahaha... Congrats! And funny story.

When were you complete there? When they called, did the correct caller ID show up or was it blocked? I received two calls from an 'Unknown' number yesterday morning that I couldn't answer because I was in meetings, and of course I'm nervous it was an admissions office calling about an interview. But I'm sure it was really just some kinda solicitor. What time did they call you?
