This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I wrote an email to one of my LOR writers, thanking him for sending it (somewhat) promptly and asking if I could buy him dinner as a thank-you gift.

His response? "Well you don't really need to do that, but I'm not one to pass up a free meal."

🙄 men

Hell, I'll write you a letter for a free meal. I've got the right initials after my name.

"pingouin is really neat. She is made of turtle meat. Let her be a doctor."

There. I like Thai food. FEDEX it so it won't get cold. 😀

Pointing out to Quixie that if he ever gets around to writing me a new "letter" for my sig, I'll pick up the tab for his dinner just like I did last year. :meanie:

Two things I want to add:

For those of you applying this year who are reading this thread (like I did last year), you ARE more than your numbers - keep up the faith and go for your dreams. I was quite certain that I would regret that 8 in PS on the MCAT for years to come. Let's just say that I raised a glass of wine to my 8 today.

For the 2008 non-trads reading this - good god! I just signed a contract to buy a condo in DC last week! I really hope I can get out of it - should find out tomorrow. And now I get to start the process anew in Rochester, MN. But it's ALL good. Even if I get an ulcer or three. 😀

Hey Guys!

First of all, a big ol' CONGRATS!! to Phoenix.:banana::soexcited::banana::clap:
I'm so excited for you, you would think I knew you or something!

Barfalamule - long time, no see! I checked out your MDApps - have you retaken the MCAT or submitted AMCAS for this cycle yet? (I'm getting ready to do both.) It must be a hard and wierd thing to gear up again when you know there's still a chance for this year. Anyway, :luck: with your waitlists! I really hope something works out for ya. If not, though, you should come "hang out" in the 2009 progress thread. (I'd love a familiar face over there! I feel like a n00b all over again . . . or an oldie . . . I'm not sure which!)

Huge congratulations!! We ARE more than our numbers...that's my mantra. Thank you for sharing the good news. 🙂

OK, I'm officially done for the application cycle. I got pulled off Mizzou's alternate list Thursday night, which means I'm withdrawing my other acceptance and wait list. This has been a long, hard, humbling process, and I expect that the next 4 years (ok, 8 or 9, really) will be no different. Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goals this year, good luck to everyone who's applying for '09, and thanks to all of you for the ongoing support! Specific thanks from this thread go to Quix for the poetry (I need a new one), megboo for the rambling phone calls, CultureDoc for fabulous Greek food and (one of these days) shooz shopping, and Captain Fantastic for actually thinking he wants to be my classmate for the next four years. I'm warning you now- be careful what you wish for, my friend. :meanie:

I've been away from SDN for a while so I'm a little behind here 😉

Hooray for state school acceptances!

And sometime before D-day we have to get together in the Loo! Maybe I can meet CultureDoc 😀

I'd love that!!

I'm starting to get really freaked out about the MCAT (July 10th) . . . but study breaks are a good thing. And I'll certainly need to decompress afterward. :hardy:

What amazing timing!!!! My new lease is for 7/15, so you guys can help me pack and move!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! :hardy: :hardy: :hardy:

😆

Thanks, quix! 😀 Still on cloud nine! But I feel like it won't seem real until I actually start. Although I will be going back to see the school again this Friday, so maybe it will less dream-like after that. I still can't fathom that I got in! What were they thinking?!? 😀😱😀

So, I just listed my loft in Chicago for rent and will be house hunting (a yard for the dog!!!) in Rochester, MN this weekend. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that I'll need to start packing up soon. I can't believe how fast everything is moving - class starts July 21st! Guess that means I've really only got 2-3 weeks left of work. Wow. It just may be the last time I ever practice as a lawyer (*knock on wood*)....

How about everyone else starting this summer? Is the end creeping up on you faster than you expected? For such a (year) long application process, life seems to shift to fast-forward as med school approaches!

HAH! That's a REALLY good one, Ping. 😆😆 Good thing I already have that weekend planned - I'm taking the MCAT in Louisville and driving up to my Mom's for a much-overdue visit afterward . . . far, far away from the moving/packing mayhem here!! 😱

But seriously, a send-off of sorts is in order!! :hardy: PM or e-mail me and we'll figure it out!

Let's not talk about this. It's what's been causing my sleep-filled nights to be much much shorter lately. SO MUCH TO DO and time is slipping away quickly.

House is on the market, have a lease (oh so looking forward to paying mortgage AND rent if my baby doesn't sell soon..), garage sale Saturday, trying to get medical stuff in line including immunizations and new insurance, need to call at least 3 moving companies to get estimates, have packed.. mmm.. maybe 4 boxes of stuff?, and- like you- orientation starts 7/21! :wow:

this is insane.

And Quix- don't you have a big move going on as well?

On a slightly different note, back when we started this thread, we projected we were going to hit at least 1K posts. We're at 96x and I think it would be an absolute tragedy if we didn't make it to 1K before school starts...

garage sale Saturday

I SOOO do not need to buy more stuff . . . and yet, I'm intrigued! Selling anything good? 😉

Good call!! I'll help, even though I was merely a wee lurker last summer. 😳 Time flies!

Yeah, after months of waiting around things are suddenly starting to move really quickly. 12 cubicle days left 🙂thumbup🙂, closing on a house three weeks from today 🙂thumbup🙂, and classes start less than two months from now 🙂thumbup:👍👍)...

As for this having been a long year, no kidding! I just went back and read the first page of this thread (started 5/2/07 by zipmedic), and the AMCAS/LOR/transcripts/etc talk already seems like it's coming from a lifetime ago.

So I'm a little late to the party, but I'll try to do my part.
