Someone did state his 11 though. And I've seen 12 onMdapps. LOL.

20 primaries submitted
19 secondaries submitted (1 was MIA; the school doesn't screen, but I wrote it off anyway to prematurely narrow things for myself. Kind of silly, but oh well)
3 pre-interview rejections
2 pre-interview holds for re-review
7 interviews offered
1 interview attended so far
0 acceptances, waitlists, and post interview rejections
Waiting on 9 pre-interview decisions (including the holds)

Having just begun my interviewing, it's too soon for me to have real results on this. Just figured I'd weigh in while I'm here.

I will say that I didn't really expect to have this many interviews, especially not when I've heard from just over half of my schools. I may already need to withdraw from one due to the travel/hotel expenses piling up (I'm really trying to make it work, but rest assured I'll decide soon so as not to hog the spot). If I were to do it again, I'd switch out a few schools for tougher ones. I definitely underestimated how well I'd do. I blame you for this, SDN!!! Anyway, if I get one acceptance I'll be happy. I didn't apply anywhere I wouldn't be willing to go.

I think this poll needs to be re-posted in May. The results will be more accurate then since many people, like myself, haven't gotten most of their results yet.

No one's waiting 😛

We just want to hear from the smart and punctual kids. 😉

It boggles my mind that 12+ is even an option and that not one, but TWO people have so far claimed to have that many acceptances. Overkill?? :eyebrow:

Clearly people with 12+ acceptances are playing a different game from most of us. What I mean by that, is, that until I got the first acceptance, I kept pushing and attended all interviews. Once I got that first acceptance, it totally changed my approach to the remainder of the cycle...I canceled one interview appointment, and I punted on 7 secondaries I had held off on submitting...

Let me preface the following with the assumption that people only applied to schools that interested them in the first place. With that said, I am not really criticizing anybody with 12+ acceptances, but something else is driving them to keep attending interviews after getting several acceptances (remember my preface here), and I am not sure I will ever understand that motivation. Attending interviews, with the high costs of time and $, was one of the biggest pains in the arse ever.

Perhaps they arent as fortunate as you to get accepted early.

Being accepted early or not doesn't matter. What flip is saying is that just that first acceptance allowed him to narrow down his school choices by canceling interviews, etc. Unless somehow those 12+ interviews all happened at the same time and thus no results were yet available, people who are holding that many acceptances either have absolutely no idea what school they would like to attend or just like to rack up the numbers... or just like traveling, interviewing, and wasting money to see schools they have no intention of attending... or are lying. 🙂

If they are not accepted early, they will still have to go for their interviews. -.-
Regardless, that data is statistically insignificant.

But I would prefer to see humanity in a more positive light 😉

🙄I did most of my interviews b4 October 15 and scheduled three for the end of October before I got any acceptances. I applied mostly to East Coast schools and so it hasn't cost me a lot of money. I have friends at every school I applied to. If they were busy (which was not usually the case), I asked for a host. Thus, I spent no cash on hotels and airfares. I took the bus to the cities where I was interviewing at. For the non-East Coast schools I applied to, my parents footed the cost of plane tickets which were not that expensive.
Also, most of my top choice interviews were scheduled for later in the cycle so that I had more than enough experience. Lastly, I'm going to the school that gives me the best financial aid. This simply means that I go to most of my interviews.

yea, I was going to mention this. Level of financial aid is a great reason to apply to so many schools.

applied to 9 schools

1 acceptance so far
3 decisions in March
1 interview lined up for Feb
1 interview declined

3 schools silent rejection...though I sent them all 😍 letters

Perhaps they arent as fortunate as you to get accepted early.

Someone who is posting here, in January, that they have 12 acceptances, indicates to me that they were accepted at rolling schools starting in October, or, in other words, they were accepted "early."

My first acceptance came in mid October. Once I had that first acceptance, it completely changed my approach to the remainder of the cycle.

My point is that, again, assuming one has applied and interviewed only at schools of great interest, that once one has one or several acceptances, to stay in this interview game and accumulate a dozen acceptances (by January) is a wholly different game than the one I played. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Yeah, just read Achimedes's posts he has that different gameplan you were referring tooo. I'm not the one with 11 or 12 acceptances. lol! i wish.

This makes a huuuuge difference at least for me. With a great enough package, I would go to almost any of the schools that I was accepted to. I was blessed to have 7 acceptances so far while waiting to hear from the non-rolling March schools. As soon as I get financial aid back (finished fafsa, need access and most of the institutional forms already) I will start to withdraw from schools based on my preferences and financial aid that they can give me.

16 secondaries
7 interview invites (attended 6)
1 pre-interview hold
1 withdrew pre-interview
2 pre-interview rejections
4 waiting post-interview
2 Acceptances

Haven't heard from the rest....

People have gotten 12+ acceptances? Wow. How many schools did they apply to?

Gotta get 6 or more acceptances to be in the top 10% now...

I'm starting to run out off interviews to even match that number😛

I applied to 12 schools, all MD/PhD:

1 pre-interview rejection
11 interview invites

7 interviews attended
1 interview left
3 withdrawn between interview invite and interview date

1 withdraw between interview and admissions decision
3 acceptances 😀😀 (one of which I let go)
4 more decisions pending

Could be just BS, who knows, it's an anonymous poll.

I can see it happening if you're really good at interviewing/have amazing numbers and are trying to collect acceptances. Probably more likely if the parents are paying for it.

I am not interested in your personal success as an applicant. I am more interested in the overall success of SDN compared to the average applicant.

uh huh . . .

i think you missed my point, which is that percentages seem like a better way to compare. especially when comparing SDNers to other applicants- i have a feeling a lot of us apply to more schools than what is "normal." therefore while our raw numbers of acceptances may be higher, percentage-wise we might be on par with everyone else. a non-sdner who gets into 1 school out of 4 applied to is equivalent to someone who gets into 10 schools out of 40 applied to, don't you think? even though 10 sounds way more impressive than 1.

but don't sweat it, i enjoy rudeness from internet strangers, it gives a little spice to my day 🙄

Dont read too much into it, just making a point.

Lol, I feel like I'm being mean tho. Haha. Fatigue.

Good idea, start the poll?

I think that its slightly iffy. Because then you would have to take into account stats/ECs and all that mumbo jumbo...

And some people might have applied to the entire set of reach schools, or all possible safeties.
thus getting rejected at both reach and safeties.
HAHA

Why did you only attend 5 of 8 interviews? That seems to be a mistake, right? It may still turn out fine, but you should attend every interview until you get an acceptance...canceling interviews without an acceptance is a bad idea.

if this poll was reliable, it would be interesting to see if some aspiring statisticians could check to see if there was a significant number of people receiving 1 acceptance as opposed to multiple. This is sort of playing off the contention that many people believe that schools have a way of checking how many or if you have been accepted elsewhere, and if this for some reason plays a role into their decision process.

I think he didn't cancel, just hasn't attended the interview yet.

Change my zero acceptances to one. Woot! As promised, I am happy.

I can't change my vote on the poll now, though...

For the guy who said the results wouldn't be as accurate now cuz people like me weren't done, you'd think I would've decided to hold off on contributing to the actual poll results...oh well lol.

Interesting. According to this extremely unscientific poll, 80% of SDNers have been accepted to at least one school and 20% haven't. Of course, there are problems with an anonymous self-report poll but let's pretend that the data are accurate. According to the AAMC, only 46% of applicants in a given cycle get accepted to at least one school.

Oh, and check out the bottom of the chart. Can you believe there was somebody with a 1.47-1.99 GPA and a 15-17 MCAT who got accepted?!
