rate limiting step is the transcript, which includes
1. your spring semester ending/grades coming back - you entering your grades
2. you requesting them
3. your school processing that request and sending it
4. US postal service
5. amcas sorting through mail, acknowledging that it received it
6. verifying your grades (depends on how early/late you are in line)
Right. It's just not cool how late our spring grades are released 🙁. There's no way around it though. I'm not sending in my transcript w/o spring grades. . . Or should I? I'm applying ED I think, so time is definitely of the essence

Are you graduating in spring? Are the spring grades part of an upward trend? You can also send follow-up letters with your new grades to your school, if you need to, but AMCAS would probably be better.

Negative, not graduating in in spring, no upward trend (maybe like +.03 or something). I think I'll just wait 'til after spring grades. I mean, my MCAT score shouldn't be released until late June; so I should be verified by then, regardless. . .

You can't get verified until they've received your transcripts...

I'm just saying that whether I send my transcript now (w/o spring grades) or on May 27 after grades are released, I should be verified before the end of June, which is when my MCAT scores are released. I can deal with a 2 or 3 week wait

if you are ED, you should contact that school whether or not they require spring grades

Oh, yeah, you should be fine, but call and ask anyway.👍

So if we submit our letters to AMCAS now, that's it for the AMCAS letter writer schools and we don't have to do anything else with those schools and letters? They'll just chill with AMCAS until the schools want them?

sorry, i'm half asleep, so excuse the rambling

you finish up your app, but select one school to apply to, and you submit the application. after the 4-5 weeks it'll take to verify, they'll automatically send it to that one school you selected.

now you get your MCAT score back, and it's bad. So, what do you wanna do? reapply for the next cycle? simply withdraw that one app then. Do you want to retake the MCAT and still use it for this cycle? then go take it, and when the score comes out and you know it's a good score, you login to your AMCAS, designate all the schools you want to apply to, and resubmit ap.

Now, since the app has already been verified, and since the mcat score takes 30 seconds to upload into AMCAS, the schools will recieve your complete file within 2-3 days if not less.

Now, they will have the bad MCAT score and the good MCAT score. What did this method do for you? at least you won't be getting rejected based on your bad MCAT score. Yes, other people will say that the schools will wait for the 2nd score if you tell them to wait, but we all know that's BS for the most part. Even if it's not BS, you've got the two scores there, and they can't just throw away your app because of a low score.

I am seriously considering doing this as I will be taking the MCAT in June 18th. I don't want to wait until I get my MCAT scores back on July 18th to Apply and get AMCAS verified late July, which I've heard takes weeks. However, the whole resubmitting thing sounds risky and I don't want to mess up my application due to technicalities. Has anyone done this before or know an applicant who has done it??

Does AMCAS calculate dual-enrollment credits in GPA?

In high school I took 36 credits through a community college, all of which transferred in and left me with advanced standing at my undergrad.

These are not AP classes - My high school didn't offer AP.

P.S. Is it ok to send transcripts now? Is there a date that AMCAS will only accept them after?

Thanks guys!

All college courses count.

At that point, it's in AMCAS's court, with no need for you to worry (unless something goes wrong, which is unlikely).

I m not sure about all the schools but my school has an option on transcript request that says send after this semester's grade and they usually send it on or before the day grades are release to the students.

hope that helps

its also a good idea to call the registrar if you faxed/mailed/online requested your transcripts to be sent, for verification purposes.

anyone know how long it takes for AMCAS to verify/add LOR's after they are sent? I'm still waiting on one and a committee interview/letter..

Last year the AMCAS letter service was still a pilot program with only a few schools participating with some hiccups. You guys get to try it out for real.:scared:

edit to clarify: The biggest hiccup was VirtualEvals and not actually AMCAS iirc, but it did take a (little) while...

Unless you are applying to schools that are not using the AMCAS service. There are ~20 or so.

hm. do you need to have all your letters added before AMCAS verifies you?

So long as the letters are sent in by mid-June to AMCAS, I should be okay?

yes. letters should be in before secondaries. mid-june is before you receive your secondaries. therefore,

Pretty much. As with everything else, earlier is always better, but it won't stop you from getting secondaries at all.👍

(While some schools will send you secondaries in June, the majority will send them in July. This I know from my completely nonrandom sampling of a third of them.)

wow there are a lot of AMCAS letter schools this time. which schools are not in it? good question

I'm guessing by 2011 cycle, all schools will subscribe to it.

How important is it to include a contact in the work/activities section? Do any schools actually get in touch with them to check if you did what you say you did? Would it look bad if I didn't include a contact?

If there is a legitimate contact, you should include him or her. If not, you haven't really lost anything. Some schools do check, though...

anyone having problems with amcas today, it seems sooooooooo slow. like 5-10 mins to load a page evrytime i click. Is it just the 1209391092 pre meds finally getting on today?😕

Guys I'm not even applying until next year and I'm really excited reading this. 🙂

Thanks so much for all your help!! I failed an AP exam but my transcript still lists it and for credits earned it says 0. Should I include this class as well?

LOL, i dont know man, seems so unnecessary. You sure its in the official transcript?

Bah, that is sooo ridiculous!🙁

If it's on the official transcript, though, you're kind of stuck with it.😳

is myuu a guy or a girl? always thought you were a guy

quick question:

im not using the LOE service or a committee from my school: i will be asking my prof's to write me LOR, but i am applying to more than one school. so should they be generic? who should they be addressed to ie.."to whom to may concern" am i going to be just giving them a pre-stamped envelope to the AMCAS address?

Letters at this stage are never school-specific (unless you're only applying to one school...) to begin with. No idea on the form of address--does your school have a committee to begin with or are you circumventing the one you have. If all else fails, the career services people might be able to help you with the form of address issue...

Yes, other people will say that the schools will wait for the 2nd score if you tell them to wait, but we all know that's BS for the most part.

how is that BS? i've talked to 4 schools and they all said they would wait until the second score comes in because the app would be not marked as complete until then.

Same with me! I passed my Calc AB though, but transcript still lists it with 0 credits earned.😕

that's why you can't bench press the bar!

That is exactly why I can't bench the bar! That and my complete lack of arm muscles.:laugh::laugh: I thought I'd dropped enough hints, but I guess not.👍

My school considered them transfer credits, so that what I put down, but I think there's probably going to be a lot of flexibility with those AP/IB credit entries. Although, it would be really, really nice if some kind soul were to email AMCAS about how these things should be properly entered.😉

i already emaield them!

i will let u all know wut they say

I already emailed them this morning and they said just enter them exactly as they on the transcript. If no grade was issued, leave them blank.
