I applied to 16 schools, had 3 interviews, 1 acceptance (AECOM!), 2 rejections, and just haven't heard from the rest. I've sent 2 updates in the mean time. Is not hearing back normal?

yeah...I went on 2 interviews and have 1 acceptance and am still waiting for post-interview decision on the second one. I have another interview coming up the end of this month, 3 pre-interview rejections and just silence from the rest. I don't remember how many secondaries I actually sent in because I applied to way more on AMCAS and decided not to submit quite a few secondaries due to an early acceptance. There are probably 7 schools that I have completely not heard from though (w/ one "hold").

Yep, I have yet to hear from 17 schools. Although I'm assuming rejection from 4 of those for sure, since their interview season is pretty much coming to a close.

OP, you can always check school websites to see how long they interview into the year. Some schools interview all the way into March/April. So for those, there is still a chance to score an interview this late. But others only interview into February, in which case I think it's better to assume silent rejection at this point.

Yep! Rolling schools that haven't made up their mind, non-rolling schools that probably have my rejection letter signed, sealed, and stamped, and probably a handful of schools that are using my application for a dart board.

haha, i like this...it's basically what i imagine whenever i look at the blank "decision" section next to the names of most of the schools on my list. i applied to 18 total, and so far have gotten 3 rejections, 5 holds, 4 interviews, 2 acceptances, 2 pending.

i imagine the other 6 schools are using my app for either kindling or toilet paper.

My rejection letters have steadily been coming in. By now, I only have a handful of schools left that I haven't heard from.

Almost done here too, if ure a pre-interview no news, dont have your hopes too high

Yeah...I think I counted like nine pre interview holds or no news among my apps. Luckily I have mentally withdrawn from these schools. I'm not spending the energy to actually withdraw from them considering the fact that they probably forgot about my existence anyways (either that or they're using my apps to wipe down the tables after the parties that they funded with my secondary money). I'm down to only two pre interview no news/hold schools that I care about cause they're in my home state. Out of state I'm only thinking about three schools that I was waitlisted post interview. I'm definitely ready to be done.

Hopkins is using my application as a table coaster.

and I thought I was the only one who made these jokes.

do you think medical schools adcoms talk to each other across schools? i've been accepted to a few, but i'm about to send a bitchy mass email to the MANY that i haven't heard a peep from since July. Something along the lines of "I'm sorry you guys are SO busy to copy and paste our email addresses from an already-online application system and press "send" to e-mail us a rejection. If i can have the $100 i spent on your secondary, the time i spent on your essay and the hours i spent agonizing on whether its a yes or no, back, maybe there wont be any hard feelings."

Still waiting to hear from Loyola, Emory, and SLU combined with pre-interview hold from Maryland (which has been sending rejection letters lately). Oh well, I'm pretty satisfied with my interview season.

don't do that. Last thing you need is them to blacklist you for residency or something. Just avoid it and move on

i applied to 18 total... 10 interviews, 2 quick rejections in september, and silence from 6. i withdrew from 4 of those 6, though. so i'm only "waiting" on 2, but they're done interviewing. so i'm mostly waiting for my rejection letters. woot. :lame:

I agree, I would just let it go, and be happy with what I have.

Contrary to the adage, no news is typically bad news. I have lots of it, but it's just part of the process.

I just got rejected mid January from FIU I forgot all about them. I still have not heard anything from FSU or UF. I refuse to withdraw because I am curious, but I do not even call asking about my application either.

GO ARMY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Accepted 2014 UCF!!!!!!!

You will eventually hear back from most of them. For me, I received 2 rejections in the past 2 weeks.

I've been waiting on every UC except UCSF. As a matter of fact, UCSF gave me a secondary, rejected me, received my appeal, and wrote a letter back rejecting me again. At least they are efficient.

How does the appeal thing works?

At some schools , you just wake up one day and see that interview invites are over. No e-mail. No nothing. Harvard and Penn for two. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to just send an email after the last invite has gone out saying "Sorry. You were not selected for an interview."

👍

At least we have SDN to know when the last invites / interviews were. Someone applying completely on their own is going to be strung along until March. If you're done interviewing, or even have no intention of ever interviewing some people, send out emails. It's easy.

maybe they're hoping that we'll just go away by ourselves like a bad rash....

Let's admit it though, most us aren't exactly holding out for any of the schools that haven't acknowledged our existence in months so its not exactly that bad.

If we cared enough, we'd call. Obviously, we don't care

Ditto. I haven't heard from... 5 schools, and I'm reasonably sure all of them have rejected me, but I'm not bothering to withdraw unless they actively express some interest in my application (random invite, anyone?). I'm waiting on one post-interview decision to make my final choice (well, to have it made for me... I'm going to that school if they accept me), and I won't hear from them until the end of March.

Rejected pre-interview: 4
Pre-interview hold: 2
Interviewed/Accepted: 2
Withdrew: 1
Silence: 7

Sometimes I wonder if they're lighting cigars with my money while cozying up to the fire they built with my application and laughing hysterically while updating my status to "under review."
