The admissions staff is very nice. Lots of students stopped by during the day to chat. The facilities are incredible. The med school building is basically brand new.

You will have two interviews, one is one on one and the other is three on three. The group one is pretty easy because it's only about 30 min long so only about 10 min is spent on each student and you have time to think while the others are talking. The one on one is a bit worse. I had some questions like " what was the most profound day of your life".

Overall it's an amazing school and I would love to attend.

Did you spend the night with a student? Did you feel that you had enough interaction with current students during the interview day so that an overnight stay wasn't necessary?

Yes I spent the night with a student. I got in really late though so I didn't get to talk to my host much. I would still recommend staying with a student if you can though. Lots of students will stop by so you will have plenty of time to chat, but staying with a student is free and they can help show you around the campus a little.

in the invite emory sent out, they suggested wearing normal shoes/sneakers because of the intense tour. do people really just wear normal shoes in their suits? or should i just plan on wearing dress shoes anyway?

Most of the guys on my tour kept their dress shoes on, but most of the girls switched out of their heels to some flats. The tour wasn't horribly long. You take a shuttle to Grady and walk around there, then also at some of the other Emory hospitals, but it was nothing extreme.

boo!
I am so tired of waiting for a yay no nay about the darn interview!
It doesn't help that there are conspiracy theories floating around about Emory waiting til last moment to invite their undergrads for interviews.
How does one cope when they have PChem to deal with!!

Received an invite for 11/13 today. Anyone arrange a meeting with the Dean of Multicultural Affairs? I'm curious if it's just something minority interviewees do...

Ahh nah, didn't mean it like that. I'm just curious if only minorities get that chance to talk with him, or if everyone does.

Definately not true. Myself and multiple other Emory students have gotten invites relatively early

They are sending out the first batch of acceptance letters tomorrow.

Would anyone share their experiences with group interviews? I am wondering if its structured like a debate or direct one-on-one questions on a particular topic. I'll greatly appreciate any info regarding this....thanks!

It really isn't a big deal. There are three interviewers (two faculty and one student) and three interviewees. It is closed file and they have enough time to only ask you 4 questions. Sometimes they would ask the same question for the first two people and switch around the question for the last person. Questions can range from how you would react in a hypothetical situation to something specific about your file.

anybody hear from the first batch yet? congrats in advance!

I don't know if it's just for minority applicants, but I've heard him speak before. Dean Lee, right? (I got the impression that he likes to be called "Dean" over "Dr." and keep in mind that he is not an MD, only a PhD) He is African American and seems like a very nice man and very forth-coming. When I heard him speak at a pre-med info session about Emory Med, he cursed. He was like, "Why the HELL would you spend 2 years of your life doing research if you didn't like it and thought, 'oh ****, I have to go do this tomorrow,' every day." 😀 Of course he said it in humorous way and everyone laughed. Anyways, just make sure you're honest with him. He told us a story about how at his previous med school, he was interviewing this guy who had put on his application that he played piano in black churches for many years. Luckily, a piano was nearby, so he excitedly asked the applicant to play for him. Turns out, the guy couldn't play piano at all and that Dean Lee paid his way through college by playing piano for black churches.

So I guess the moral of this story is for you to be honest and back-up what you say, and if you play piano, he does too.

Best of luck!

Accepted!!! Interviewed 10/5. Happy Halloween everybody!:hardy:

I was complete on 8/26. Are there still interviews being given out or is that a rejection by now?

I doubt they'll be interviewing that much more. I have a 3.8/34 and haven't heard a thing. Compared to the rest of the people posting on this forum, I feel inadequate.

Absolutely, the interview season goes until late Feb. I didn't receive an interview invite until after winter break in January for an interview in Feb. Don't give up hope.

I doubt you're right. Just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean the school is done interviewing. Keep in mind SDN represents a small sample size of medical school applicants, so while you may feel inadequate compared the others on this board, it is by no means a fair representation of the general pre-med population.

Don't worry they are interviewing.

ONLY a PhD? Wow...but we call him Dr. Lee.
He's a cool guy to talk to, no harm in talking to him if you want to. He said he felt bad for not meeting me during my interview, and made it up to me by calling me a week in advance to tell me that I was accepted....nice 🙂

No, I just didn't want the guy I quoted to go into the interview and ask something like "so what is your specialty?" (in reference to medicine) or something like that. That would be an uh-oh moment. I wasn't trying to diminishing his PhD.

Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You got into my dream school. 🙂

Ok cool....they tell you what you're interviewer does (that day) before you meet w/ them

Okay; thank you; I didn't know that; I'm only a freshman; I'm a ******; I don't know anything; sorry.

I have a question for those of you who have interviewed. How many people do they invite to interview per day? Is this an intimate setting with 5 people or something large with 40-50 interviewees or something in between? Thanks!

There were 18 of us on the day I interviewed, and my guess (based off the format of the day/interviews) is that it's probably exactly 18 people each interview day.

^ hes right. they have 3 groups of 3 for each time slot (morning and afternoon)...
it has to be 18! 🙂 its a nice number, personally i enjoyed another interview date with i tink closer to 10... but well... ive been to high 20s.. so 18 is good 😉

So their secondary came out late, and as I got busier I've been putting it off to the point where I'm not really sure it's worth it to submit it anymore. I think it would be more polite for me to just withdraw my application now.

Should I sign up for an account and withdraw there, or just email the Admissions Office directly? Thanks!

Is it just me, or has Emory been really stingy with the invites so far?

Well, I haven't heard of many people getting invites. I really really hope to get one here too.

Not sure what the deal with the invites is but I had to wait since first week of september.
and now I will do my victory dance as my undergrad finally stopped ignoring me and gave me a stinkin interview!!!!
:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

i wish they held their committee meetings earlier. i really wanna know.

monthly🙁 and i was the start of that "month"... so its another 2-3 weeks for me 🙁

I have been complete since the end of sept and havent heard anything. has anyone tried calling?

I just got my interview invite this weekend! Looks like I'll probably be going in February, but I'm really excited about this one! I had just assumed they were done offering interviews and had given up... it's nice to be wrong on that one

when was your app complete? i feel like i've been waiting for any kind of news from them for a lifetime

I just got an interview invite today 11/17 for 12/14. I am super excited since I submitted my secondary about a week ago! Anyone else interviewing on this date?

Hey SelfTaughtDoc, I got an interview invite for 12/14 as well. After not hearing anything for awhile, I was not expecting that Emory would be the medical school to break the silence. I'm excited to check out Grady, I've heard great things.

Congrats! Yeah same here...I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from Emory. One of my good friends is an M1 and he absolutely loves it there! I am very excited.

Would you mind sharing your MCAT score/info? I am wondering what my chances are?

For those who are anxiously awaiting news to vicariously live through, the Emory admissions committee meets approx once a month and mails out acceptance letters on the following dates:

10/27
11/24
12/22
2/2
2/23
3/9

As far as where they are in their stack of interviews, interviewees as of 11/16 will not be considered until the 12/22 meeting.
