They've got an automatic system where, if you don't mention "cura personalis" more than five times, it's an automatic rejection.

Just joking. 😀

Sorry to hear about the news. Hang in there, everyone. Don't draw any conclusions from this one. I've seen countless examples of outstanding applicants getting interviewed at great places and getting rejected at Georgetown, Boston, etc. It just happens.

Complete here since 8/17, and nothing.

Come on Town de George, you know that we are a match. 😍

haha to tell you the truth, i wouldn't worry about a rejection from either georgetown, GW, BU, or drexel. all four of these schools have over 10k applicants a year and people with 4.0/42 get rejected from these schools. who knows what they're looking for.

i'm sure you'll be fine. it's a crapshoot (especially these four schools) and still really early. good luck!

Thanks, and yeah, I'm not too down about it. It's never great to be rejected, but I don't think me and Georgetown (Or DC, for that matter) would have been a great fit anyway.

Plenty more schools to worry over. 🙂

Good luck to you too.

I think G'Town is not all about numbers.

i definitely agree. i tink theyre really looking for people that believe in their mission ( im pretty sure i got an invite because i unintentionally wrote about something very similar to their philosophy in my personal statement). good luck to those still waiting!🙂

rejection here as well.. ~3.5/35 GL to the rest of you!

rejected 4.0/36Q. Guess i wasn't what they were looking for. Bummer

Well i applied to all four of those schools. Crap.

Interview invite 9/23. I did not mention cura personalis in my interest essay.

3.5 sGPA, 3.7 cGPA, 34T MCAT, rejected. My numbers are by no means astounding so I'm not one of those high-statters that they reject for being overqualified. I was also the president of a service organization that sends musicians to play in the hospital, so I thought I was a good fit for the 'cura personalis' aspect of their curriculum 🙁 Oh well! Good luck everyone.

anyone who has already had an interview here get rejected yet?

i don't think any decisions are being released until the end of october, at least thats what they told us a few weeks ago at my interview

Rejected. Numbers (and probably a lot of other things) are obviously irrelevant to them. From what I can tell, they're focused on finding applicants a) with a strong service background, b) with a strong essay and clear interest, and c) who are more likely to come. Everyone else gets filtered out.

Long silence, though. I had been complete since the first week of August.

Sorry man. But how do you know about those points a, b, and c? Did someone from G'Town tell you that?

No worries, it was expected after the long delay. Those are just my observations, which may or may not be correct. It's clear that they're very geared toward service. That's what their mission is all about. It's also what I've overwhelmingly seen in multiple friends who've gotten interviews there and in various profiles I've noticed.

b) and c) are inferences just based on the fact that they get tons of applications and, like any medical school, it's in their best interest to choose people who are applying out of genuine interest and who will accept their offer. They're going to naturally be skeptical about high-stat applicants unless they demonstrate like-minded, service-oriented goals and a true desire to attend in the essay. If they don't think you're a good fit or very likely to attend over other schools, I suppose they'll reject you.

Again, those are my personal inferences.

Hey everyone,
I just got done interviewing at Georgetown and I just wanted to say that it was an amazing experience. Mrs. Sullivans speech was great and really sets forth the groundwork and principles of the school. This allows for you to make an early decision about the school and if it will fit your future goal in becoming a physician. My interview had two ethical questions and a couple on the current healthcare reform situation. Read up on the philosophy of Cura Personalis and the reform and you will be prepared. Everyone was so nice and I hope all goes well for all of you.

Also I just wanted to add that this school seems to look strongly for students with clinical experience with an understanding of their philosophy. You can be as cerebral as you want, but in the end they want to find out who you are and if you are not just academically gifted.

Best of Luck

Congrats on being done. They told us earliest they will let us know about acceptance was 10/15, right? Or was it late October? Did they tell your group? I think I remember they told us 10/15, but someone who interviewed here said late October, so I was slightly confused.

BlueElmo, I interviewed in the first week of September and Mrs. Sullivan told us that they were reviewing our applications in the third week of September and that we should be expecting to hear back on Oct. 15.

Thanks c17h. Good luck to both of us.:luck:

I'm a third year student at Georgetown, and all I have to say this, this gentleman is right on. 👍 We are definitely less of a numbers school (although we do have cutoffs to an extent), and the admissions office holds community service in high regard. And with the 11,000+ applicants, we seek to interview those who have a true genuine interest and the secondary essay is a good way to gauge that.

It's a fantastic school, and I've loved it so far! Best of luck to you all.

do you guys have any idea when Gtown's seats normally fill for the year?

I have heard of some schools that fill in as early as Dec.

Georgetown's class doesn't fill up too early for several reasons. 1) They have a relatively large class of about 195-199. 2) They are a part of the middle tier ranked medical schools that are also private (also think BU, Tufts), so they get a looot of applications. Being in the middle of the pack means lower stat applicants apply as a reach, and higher stat applicants apply as a backup. So, as any higher stat students drop their acceptance to Georgetown, spots open up. But, this takes time to fully settle out. So people routinely get in off the wait-list in the middle of the summer. Obviously there won't be a deluge of acceptances sent out during the summer months, but the class surely doesn't fill up by December.

Georgetown typically accepts a little under double the size of its class.

I guess middle-of-the-road stats people are best off, I guess. I hope. Haha.

Anyone know how they react to calls about application status? I submitted 7/15, complete 7/30 (yeah it took them a while), and I haven't heard a peep since. And if you're just going to tell me to "chill," please keep it to yourself (sorry if that sounded rude)

dude I would call to see what's up. It can't hurt. 7/30 has been a long time.

Hey, sorry to hear about the rejections. I just got an interview invite and my stuff has been in since July. If you still haven't heard, hang in there! If you got rejected, good luck at your other schools. I am sure that you will get in somewhere - you guys have some great stats!

As for the numbers, I am 3.98, 32T. I have a ton of service and international experience. But to be honest, sometimes the selection process makes it feel like we are playing wheel of fortune. You might have all the skills in the world and be a genius at solving the puzzles, but a little bad luck on that big wheel could send you home empty-handed. 🙂

Best of luck to everyone who is applying this year!

See, patience pays off 😉 Congrats!

lol thanks. I guess it's comforting that even though I wasn't on the top of the stack for them to look at (in fact it seems like I was near the bottom), I still got favorably reviewed. I only wish I had told them when I was going to be in town for my GW interview back in September... wonder if they would have actually reviewed my application sooner.

*shrug* Coulda worked- it did for me. I left an extra day in my trip to DC for my GW interview and let them know about it, so it definitely paid off.

Complete 9/02. Invite 10/06.

Anybody getting nervous? Decisions should be going out this coming week.

Bring it gtown...It's time to get down to business. Are you in or are you out?

I'm incredibly nervous...
no kidding...i can't believe october 15 is almost here...so nerve wracking... :scared:

anyway, good luck everyone! hopefully the admissions committee can sense those positive vibes we're sending!!

No guts, no glory attitude? I like it.🙂

my experience interviewing at georgetown this past week was AMAZING. easily my top choice, especially after ms. sullivan's speech in the beginning. and the interview was utterly fantastic and laid back. love it.

Are you guys certain the decisions will arrive in your inbox on Oct 15th? I know VCU will be Oct 16th right on the dot. I'm not sure about this school.

I thought I recalled them saying it would be a little later. Whatever the case, I'm ready for a decision. I just hope they're ready to make one.

ahh I can't believe I have to wait until November to interview here. It's so tough to wait. But good luck to everyone who has already interviewed!

I interviewed here on Sept 8th and Mrs. Sullivan told us on the 15th, latest by the 20th.

Yeah good luck to you all. Gtown is definately my top choice. I would LOVE to be in the D.C. area for med school, and GW didn't impress me quite as much. If I get a denial I'm gonna cry, I swear.
