2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you who are re-applying this year, are you finding that you are getting more interviews? And did you apply to all of the same schools you applied to the first time, or did you apply to more/different schools?

This is attempt #3 for me, and I've received 7 times as many interviews as last year. All the interviews I've gotten are at schools I never applied to before. I applied to a few repeats and have gotten no interviews from any of them.

The University of Houston person (i.e. me) has already responded several pages earlier in this thread, and I don't really feel like sending PMs to each of the 8 or so people that have asked. The phone call I received was from Dr. Vincent, who is both the DCT and my POI, so I don't know if calls were being made by POIs or by the DCT, since in my case they are one and the same.

Thank you for letting us know 🙂 Congrats!

Well, there are plenty of people on this forum (including myself) who haven't received any invites at all, so it sounds to me like you're doing something right... I hope you get in this time around! :luck:

This is my second time. And I suppose if you consider that first round, I only got one phone conversation with a grad student, I've gotten an order of magnitude more for interviews and by that I mean one. I'm throwing my all into it.

Why do you think you've gotten more interviews this year than before?

Just curious, were the new schools you applied to (and got interviews from) less competitive than last years or a better fit or perhaps both.

I got in late tonight to check my email, and found one from my POI at U Mass Boston...it was him asking why I hadnt ever replied to his interview invite he'd already sent...I NEVER GOT IT!! Apparently he had sent me an email this past thursday, to an incorrectly spelled address! :scared:

I freaked out so bad I almost forgot to be excited that I got another interview! (And its now 2 hours later and I'm still a little freaked out...I've had nightmares about getting a letter or something saying, well, since you didnt reply to our acceptance offer, we're assuming you dont want to come here to a school you never received anything from; this was nearly as scary, lol)

on a brighter note...yipee :soexcited:

Why do you think you've gotten more interviews this year than before?

A few reasons, but mostly because of the additional experience I've gotten in the past year (my job really picked up) and most likely better letters of rec. Maybe my personal statement was better too; who knows. My research interests have changed a bit.

I think some were one and some were the other, but apparently some of the schools I've gotten interview invites at are very competitive. Last year I think that a lot of places I applied didn't end up taking a student.

Thanks. I'm trying to plan for next year's application, just in case.

I thought I remembered seeing someone post something about a website where they could rate their interviews and the school. I'd like to look at what people last year have said about the places I'm going to be interviewing at. Does anyone know what website that was?

Hey! Sorry to be a pest but is anyone interviewing at La Salle tomorrow? If so, do you have the tentative interview schedule? I know it was emailed to interviewees but I can't find it.

Thanks in advance!
😳

Would whoever got the invite to SUNY Albany mind letting me know who your POIs are? Thanks! :O)

I saw a couple of posts about UH's interviews. I am a first year student there. They are all individually given by your POI and they just started making calls this week. I think it is safe to say that there is still time. Good luck!

ohh cool! Thank you 🙂

Don't you need to be accepted into a program before you do your FAFSA?

Not all schools require you to fill out the FAFSA for funding... I've been accepted with full funding on a fellowship and did not fill it out. However, some of my other schools have said they need it, but considering they haven't invited me to interview, I don't feel pressure to fill it out yet 🙂

Can those of you who have received the Albany invites please PM me your POI

hi all,

so i have an interview on the 19th and i've been reading up on my POIs research (of course). he has an article in press that i would really love to get my hands on. do you think its appropriate to email him and ask if he could send me the in press article because i'd like to read it before the interview? we were in correspondence a little bit in september so i wouldn't be emailing him totally out of the blue. i'd really appreciate your opinions on this.

thanks!

I think it's fine to ask for this. Good luck!

I am also still waiting on Montana. A friend of mine is a grad student there and said that she didn't even get a request for a phone interview until the middle of February. So there is a chance we may not hear anything for another week or two.

Has anyone heard anything from either Indiana State or Indiana University of Pennsylvania (both clinical PsyD programs)?

Yay! Just heard from the Nova Southeastern PsyD program. I saw from the 1st page that someone had gotten an interview on 2/3, but I just got an email today so they're still sending them out! (Same interview day = 3/8)

Woohoo! 🙂

Has anyone heard from Washington State (clinical)? I know one person had a phone interview with a POI. I was wondering if in-person invites had gone out. On the website, it states that invites will be extended mid February.

Thanks to whoever has information!

Hi,

Anyone else waiting on Brooklyn LIU? I just spoke with program sec and was told they have not extended interviews yet - apps are still being put together by admissions..interviews will be extended from 3/1-3/7..could the person who posted they were contacted for interview on 2/27 let me know who contacted them?

thanks!

Adelphi - Clinical PhD
Pace - School-Clinical PsyD
Hofstra - Clinical PhD
St. John's - Clinical PhD

Updated--with LOTS of PsyD info and some PhD info. Congrats to all!

As we near the end of invite season, what schools are you still waiting for?

I'm still waiting on Nova PhD, UVA -A&S, and Rosalind Franklin.

Just wondering when/if it is acceptable to contact a school about getting an interview....

I was in contact with the POI since Sept, had a "pre" phone interview in early Dec, POI asked me to let him know when I had sent my app, however the school's invites for real interviews appear to have gone out. Out of all my apps I was confident that I was a good fit for this school and thought an interview was in the forecast.

Since I was in contact with the POI for so long and he knows my reference, I would have thought he might email me to let me know I was declined for an interview....

Thoughts on if I should contact my POI, the department, or leave it alone?

I think these people rom LIU are having communication problems b/c I've already seen or spoken to ~3ppl who say they've been invited and when I call the office they also tell me that interviews have not been offered yet. I'm also waiting to hear from them. This is frustrating.

Still waiting on:
Rutgers Social
Kent State Experimental/Social
Penn State Biobehavioral Health

Just waiting to hear from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Otherwise, my fingers are crossed for some late ones perhaps.

Still waiting on Memphis's School PhD program.

Just got an email from DCT for interview invite from George Washington University's Clinical PhD program. 🙂 Third interview invite so far, all in the DC metro area. (looks like I might stay here after all). 😀

ps. of schools not on master list, still waiting on UMKC.
