Yeah, merit scholarships are given out starting in December until April. I believe need based comes in after FAFSA is submitted and before school starts. Then there are private scholarships that you are considered for if you put your parental information on the FAFSA. The top 15% (I think) of each class is given a scholarship as well. It seems like financial aid is pretty generous at OSU.

merit aid would be a dream come true

 but i won't get my hopes up

I think merit-based aid comes before FAFSA. I heard that they start calling mid December, which would be... now!

Cool, I wonder what kind of stats you need.

I remember hearing this as well.

Just got the call (8:33 PM CST) from Dean Capers ACCEPTED! Status page not even updated yet.

Interviewed 12/2, OOS

I received an interview invite last week for 3/15, instate applicant...pretty late in my opinion. Is this interviewing for a waitlist spot, or are they still giving out acceptances at this time? Has anyone had luck moving up their interview date?

Congrats Matt!

I also got a call from Dean Capers tonight with the good news. What an awesome guy!!

Contrats guys! You just got accepted to an amazing school. I have come to appreciate it much more after interviewing at other schools and looking at the cost/benefit analysis.

I got the call from Dean Capers late tonight!!! ACCEPTED!!!

I interviewed on 12/2 as well...CONGRATS to everyone who got accepted tonight!

Also got the call from Dr. Capers tonight! Interviewed 12/7. OOS. Quite the quick turnaround!

Deferred. Got the update this morning. I figured this would happen, as I didnt get a call last night. This is my first post on SDN. OSU was my third interview...and subsequently my third waitlist (IS, 3.9 GPA, 34). Im starting to think it's not in the cards for me this time around. I just wanted to say "thanks" to all who post on this forum. It's a big help to people like me who read it, but do not typically post.

Hey bro -- they pick a lot of people from the deferred list, so all is not lost. Hang in there -- you might get your acceptance later. What does it matter -- you'll be there on first day of class with all the other superstars with 7 million acceptances.

Hey its ok buddy, I got the exact same stats and IS, so you are definitely qualified in that aspect, idk what your ECs are but I think you got a good chance to get off the WL

For everyone curious- I spoke with financial aid. People will be notified of merit based scholarships starting at the end of december/beginning of january. Need based aid will come out in the spring. Probably not going to be a great christmas present, more like a happy new year...

Ok, so I just did something extremely difficult for me but I hope it will help one of you guys out. I just withdrew my application from OSU, also canceling my interview. I really love OSU and was so excited to go, OSU was actually my #2 choice. But I just received an acceptance from my #1 choice (which I am really excited about), and therefore would like to give my interview spot to someone who needs it more than me. I was originally scheduled for March 1st but just got moved to Jan 6th yesterday (I had called OSU and got on a list to be moved up to an earlier interview date if a position opened up, before my acceptance of course). Anyway, if anyone has a later date for their interview and wants to call the office and ask for Jan 6th, now you have a shot at getting it. By the way, when I called to request getting moved sooner, Jan 6th interviews were definitely not for wait lists, they were for actual spots in the class. Don't know if that has changed by now, but I wouldn't think so. Good luck to everyone! Not that I have to tell you guys this, but OSU is an awesome school.

Wow, osu is a long-shot for me. But these guys are sure nice.....an alumni contacts you before your interview and gives you his phone number for any questions/concerns/lodging issues? They really go extra step..

Congrats! Getting the interview is the long shot!!! They take nearly 2/3 from there (like 64% or something absurd). Feel confident and go rock it 👍

hey guys, did anyone else interview on 12/7 and not get an answer yet? I am worried that I did not get accepted 🙁

Too early now. You'll hear whether you're accepted on 12/21.

At the info session on my interview day, I'm pretty sure someone asked a related question about rolling admissions, and they stressed that some acceptances are saved for the qualified applicants who happen to interview later in the season. I think most schools will tell you that they never interview for the waitlist...I haven't heard of one school who says they do that (or would actually admit to it).

hey,

for all those people accepted- i have a quick question. in the acceptance letter (when you click view status details) it mentions that there are a bunch of links on the status page (like financial aid and whatnot). yet, when i click view status details, it leads me to some flash movie (that doesn't play...am i using the wrong browser?) and i have to press skip to see my acceptance letter.

what am i supposed to see?

I think the flash movie is a congratulations-video. I didn't see it either. Maybe it's a safari thing.

Any scholarship news yet? Anyone?

I get the same thing. Just a red screen that you have to skip. I've noticed that there are quite a few pages on the OSUCOM website that appear to be dead.

Waiting anxiously. We're supposed to get a call from somebody at the financial aid office as well as a snail mail notification if we are awarded anything. I wonder if they let us know if we don't get anything...

You need to use Internet Explorer (Chrome and Firefox didn't work for me) and have Adobe Flash Player 10 installed (free from Adobe's website).

Wow, just used Internet Explorer for the first time in 5 years so I could see the acceptance video. Forgot how incredibly slow and clunky IE is. Felt like I was using dial up.

If anyone gets some scholarship money, let us know! Every time my phone rings, I'm looking for that 614 area code...

Just got a christmas card from Dean Capers. Man, they are too nice.

accepted!
I loved it--friendly students and instructors, strong research programs, connections for international medical experiences, things to do. Good luck for everyone still waiting!
(Interviewed 12/14.)

Interviewed 12/9. Rec'd the good news this morning! By phone and status change email.

Interviewed 12/16, accepted yesterday. Best Christmas gift I could have asked for, going to my number one choice. Good luck to everyone else in the process, and I look forward to seeing some of you in class.

Congratulations to all those accepted and invited to interview!

For those who recently received interview invitations, when were your applications complete?

My application has been complete since 10/23. I haven't heard from OSU since then; my status page remains the same. Realistically speaking, am I out of the running for an interview? I know that I should continue hoping for the best -- I am in a borderline panicked state from uncertainty and would really appreciate honest opinions from you all...

Does OSU notify applicants promptly of pre-interview rejections or do they postpone notification until the end of the application season?

To give somewhat of an answer to your question:

The last time I called the admissions office (about a week ago), I was told that interviews are booked through the middle of march.

Good luck :xf:

Thanks. OSU's interview season typically ends in March, right? I am hoping that if I get rejected pre-interview, I would receive an invitation to apply for their MedPath Program. Are my chances also slim for MedPath consideration at this point?

congrats! cya at 2nd look 🙂

I have a feeling adcoms will start pulling people from the deferred list after the new year, hopefully? I hope so.

I am interviewing here in early January. Any suggestions on a place to stay? I am not looking for anything fancy, just a decent a place to spend a night. It has to be close to the school though.

I suggest a student host.

The students will be back in session on Monday, the 4th. How long ago did you request one? If it's been awhile and you need to know before Monday, you might want to contact the Admissions office this week and see if they can contact the student in charge of assigning hosts.

Hey do you guys know how an out of stater goes about getting instate tuition here after one year. I was thinking about going back to Minnesota for research after my first year of med school if i attend here.
