Does anybody know what the rejection and hold letters come in? Is it safe to assume a letter?

i'm going to call first thing on monday to schedule it! good luck everyone 🙂

SOrry if this has been answered already but has anyone been invited from pre-int hold? Been on it for some time now and I am wondering whether I should just write it off as a delayed rejection.

hey guys...i just moved from interview from march 8 to feb 22....if you are interviewing in march, there are good chances there are earlier dates available...so call them asap! linda is super nice. wish all the interview schedulers were like her...

Is a hold at this school the same thing as a waitlist? Or is it just one of those, wait to see if the class fills up if not we might come back to you...

Anyone on pre-interview hold heard anything so far?

I'm guessing since no one has responded that we're out of luck. Although, maybe they re-evaluate all of the pre-interview holds at the same time, kinda like Michigan State. Anyone know how it worked in past cycles?

Application complete 12/22...interview invite 1/8.

Scheduled interview for 2/24...kinda nervous.

do they accept update letters? I seem to remember reading that they discourage it.

Does this school have something against those of us doing our undergrad in State College? Or is it just that so many of us apply here after attending Penn State Undergrad? It seems this school has been fairly generous in giving a chance at an interview to people with stats below their average, but no word here.

accepted today, so i withdrew post-invite. hopefully one of you gets that spot!! :luck::luck::luck:

Has anyone who interviewed on Dec 4 heard anything. Its almost 8 weeks!

Has anyone who interviewed on Dec 4 heard anything. Its almost 8 weeks!

I interviewed either December 4th or December 7th (I forgot) but I got a "hold" status last week. I'm guessing this is a waitlist, but I'm not REALLY sure.

I interviewed on Dec 4th and haven't heard a word yet. While they said it would take up to 8 weeks to hear back I have a hunch it will be more like 10 weeks with the holiday break and the such.

could be even more. I interviewed end of October and still haven't heard anything.

Any one know when next Admission Committee meeting is scheduled?

Anyone on pre-interview hold heard anything so far?
Anyone heard back after pre-interview hold? I am on hold and sent in a Letter of Interest. I received an acknowledgment but no further responses... Anyone in a similar situation with an interview invite??

So I went scouring through last year's cycle, and found this post by JennLinnC on 02/13/09 (sorry, I don't know how to do cool post-moving)

"This university does seem to have some trouble with the initial screening of applicants. Basically the screener does not have to make a decision when they first read your application as to pre-interview hold (which is essentially a waitlist for the waitlist) interview or reject. So if they have any reservations about giving you an interview they can basically just hold off and read your app. again later. In my opinion, if they have an issue with giving you an interview than they should probably just reject the application entirely so as not to leave people hanging on for months with very little chance of the application moving forward. Unfortunately it's just kind of the luck of the draw. If you get a really generous screener, they can move the application through to the interview right away and you're golden, but if you get an indecisive one then you pretty much sit in limbo throughout the entire process. Sorry to all of those unlucky ones out there. So you know, my application has been complete since 10/24 and hasn't left the screener. Last year, I got put on pre-interview hold, was later, very much later, given an interview and then waitlisted. So I've been through every part of the process except the accepted bit."

So it was apparently not a total death knell last year, so hopefully they will start to review them soon?

Correction, two years ago it was not a total death knell. I did not read of one person who actually got an interview after the hold last year. Which is crazy, if Penn State does rejections, why put people on hold for months?

I got into psu in december, and I'm comparing it to drexel and Bu at this point. I'm in-state, so psu would be a lot cheaper for me than the other two private schools. I also really like psu's curriculum because they emphasize PBL, which I love (I've done it before, and believe me, it's a lot more interesting than lecture). The only thing I'm worried about is clinical exposure. It seems that in the city schools, students have more opportunities to actually meet patients, and I don't really see that at Penn State. Also, there isn't anything on their website about shadowing programs and so on during msI and msII. What should I make of this? Anybody have any input?

In terms of finding out about patient exposure, it would obviously be best to speak to a current student because they would know all the details about this. I do know though that all first years complete a Patient Project, where you meet monthly with one specific patient to speak to them about their illness and how it affects their daily lives, not only medically speaking but emotionally, mentally, spiritually etc. There is also a Primary Care Preceptorship during one week of the two week spring break. I don't know too much about this but I believe it is just where you spend one week matched up with a physician. Additionally, there is the Lion Care Clinic where you can volunteer. It is a free clinic nearby that offers a great chance for students to put into the place the skills they learn in class, especially for practicing the clinical exam. So there are those three things for patient exposure to start...

Also, those of you that are wondering about the pre-interview hold, don't give up hope. I was placed on pre-interview hold for several months and was finally granted an interview in the spring. As for post-interview hold, I was also placed on that and later accepted. I don't know how common it is for that situation to happen, but it definitely does. Good luck everyone!

Accepted off post-interview hold today!!!

interview: mid-October
hold: got the letter about 11/27

I didn't send in anything after being put on hold, no letter of interest or updates. I imagine they must rank the list and then just pull from it in order...

thank you. Yeah, seems they do eventually start to take people off hold post-interview. Might take a couple months though, if my experience is any indication.

The notification was via snail mail only. Large envelope.

Great to hear.. and congrats! I can only hope.....but I know my interview stunk even though I'm on post-interview hold. But according to SDN non scientific survey no one was rejected post-interview so it makes me wonder how many of us are on this wait list.....

There is hope! Never expected to get off of hold so quickly 🙂

Wow congratulations to those of you getting off the post-interview hold, i interviewed 11/11 and got the hold letter 1/6... this being my only interview in the cycle everything is riding on this, so it's nice to hear there is still hope for us, i was under the impression that post-interview hold = rejection...

these posts made my day

hey everyone,
its nice seeing you all come in to sit on the famous black couches every Mon-Wed-Fri 🙂
I just wanted to say you've all been wonderful people to meet and I wanted to let you know that if you have any particular questions about my experience in med school thus far, to just shoot me a PM.
Good Luck wherever you may end up!
Matt

I have to say that the lounge seating with my fellow friendly applicants and warm M1s wishing us luck has made Penn State a favorite.

As for you, how did you get a $40k scholarship (MDApp)? That's insane.

I have some ideas about how I may have received the scholarship, but none that I can definitively say are the exact reasons. I didn't apply for any scholarships, yet was later rewarded this after I was accepted and had decided to go here.

Does anyone know if/approx when a Penn State revisit day might be? I'm really interested in revisiting the school
