Is it getting too late to submit this secondary (especially for an MSTP applicant)? Blah. Should have done it earlier but this monstrous secondary looked so intimidating...

Stanford's app only came out in August so it's not too late. I haven't submitted mine yet even though I got 3 reminder emails LOL. Not because I have no interest, but I had trouble thinking of what to write for their first essay.

Okay AWESOME. I didn't know that it only came out in August since my AMCAS wasn't verified till mid-August. Yeah this secondary is crazy-- what school has FIFTEEN questions? Geez. For my first essay I pieced together stuff I wrote for other schools and am trying to make it seem coherent...

Yea I didn't really have any crazy story so I just took it as a chance to talk about something outside academics I was "good" at and related it to a career in medicine.

I am in the same boat as you. I haven't managed to submit this one yet despite 2 reminder emails. I was expecting a 3rd one but I guess they forgot me haha

I think I will try to churn out something for the first essay this weekend and submit this one. It might be my last secondary!!

I have a recommendation that is very important for me and used AMCAS letter service to send the letter. Is there any way that I can send the letter to Stanford myself without asking my recommender to send it through mail. I am not wanto disturb him. Thanks!

was the letter sent to amcas through virtual evals? if so, stanford can just get it from virtual evals directly...

It was sent through AMCAS letter service

Stanford doesn't accept letters from AMCAS. You have to send it through virtual evals or interfolio

i haven't gotten my secondary yet and all this talk of xteen essays is starting to worry me. could someone pls put up the prompts?

thanks!

they're on the very first post of this thread 🙂

thanks. i saw those, but wasn't sure if those were the complete ones for this yr bc of all the random comments about a crazy # of essays. whew. guess it's just bc they're so darn long and complicated!

those are actually all the essays! if you are referring to the 16 questions that people talked about, they are at the very end of the secondary but they aren't essay questions just 15-16 ethical questions that you have to answer with strongly agree, moderately agree, disagree, etc, etc.. 😉

aha! mystery solved. thanks!

please do not scare the **** out of me because i submitted mine and i do not remmeber there being 15 questions😛

lucky for me i read on and they said it was those mcq you were talking about.

but good job 👍 u freaked the hell out of me because i thought i skipped 15 essay questions in my app 😛

lol😳

i apologize if this has been answered, but I have no idea how to submit recommendations via interfolio etc., as my premed committee sent them to amcas. if they don't accept these from amcas, is there anyway i can just get them from amcas instead of asking the recommenders to send them again?

Hahaha, I had EXACTLY the same reaction! I immediately went and checked my application to figure out what was being talked about, thinking to myself "HOW DID I MISS SO MANY ESSAYS?!"

It's the type of move I would absolutely pull too.

AFAIK, I wouldn't think so. If they don't accept letters from AMCAS, I would be very surprised to hear that there is a way to send letters from AMCAS to them anyway (that's just kind of weird, really).

Well their secondary came out relatively late, didn't it? Add that to one of the lowest acceptance rates in the country (only Mayo is lower, I think) and I think it's probably possible. 🙂

Uggg, why did I even bother applying?

Hahah sorry for scaring you guys with my "fifteen essays!" comment... I'm an MSTP applicant so there are quite a few more pages tacked onto the application... I see a total of 13 pages, so I'm still cranking out these questions.

yeah seriously. In the last 16 days, only one person on SDN has received an interview? This can't be right...

There's always the possibility that the earlier poster is a troll who hasn't actually received an interview... or maybe he's early decision? IDK, it doesn't seem to add up that he was the only one to receive an interview so far...

I have a couple friends who've gotten interviews. They're just lurkers on sdn though. They were complete really recently though (like mid/late-aug), which makes me think that stanford is doing some sort of really quick screening or something. I don't think it's just high stats though... both of my friends w/ invites have really high stats, but not all of my high stats friends got invites, so there's gotta be something more

I think Stanford and Mayo are pretty similar in that they try to gauge the overall applicant based on their own special criteria whatever they may be.

LOL, I'm not a troll and I did actually get an invite, will be interviewing next week. Met another person at my Cornell interview who wil be there as well. Maybe people are just a bit shy or don't want to be called trolls? 🙂 I'm sure that more people will be posting about their experiences soon.

Hey man,
I apologize... best of luck on your interview!

Hey all, so after having an interview at Stanford this week, just wanted to offer my opinion and hopefully bring this thread back to life!

It seems as though this was the first week of interviews and there were only two of us interviewing! The most that they ever do in one day seems to be 5 or 6. The day was wonderful, incredibly personalized, right down to the sandwich that you have for lunch. Interviews with one student and one faculty member, both were incredibly relaxed, with a few challenging questions, but nothing stressful. Even the presentation on the school from one of the Deans was just an interactive Q&A with just the three of us. Everyone wants to know why you feel Stanford is a good fit for you, but also to show you everything that Stanford has to offer. Every student that I met was amazingly nice and helpful, and hard pressed to come up with any downside to their experience. People seem happy, the facilities are gorgeous, as is the campus. Even if Palo Alto isn't the most exciting city, it has a cool charm and is so close to so many other cities with so much to offer. Trying not to get too attached, but I have to say that it was a fun, informative, and very cool day.

Hopefully more people will post invites and interview experiences. Seems like they go slow because they are interested in really getting to know you. Everyone I talked with in the admissions office knew my file really, really well, and I felt they genuinely wanted to get to know me. :luck:

Thanks for sharing your experience there. Looks like you had a good time. Best of Luck with the decision and other interviews!

Certainly heartening, and glad to hear you had such a good time!

invite here! yesssss!!! cali is looking great.

When were you complete?

Congrats Jolt!

I don't think it matters when you were complete, they have this detailed rubric-kinda thing they go through to determine your candidacy for an interview. I think the link to their review process was posted earlier in this thread.

i guess they don really want me then. mayo didnt want me either. i did not "fit" them very well. haha

maybe their review process is really those MCQ questions.

If you "fit" their answers... u get an interview😉

and i darn well think that that is quite a smart way of finding a student who fits with the vision of the school!

Doubt it haha.

Intentionally deceiving the applicant doesn't seem to bode well for the reputation of a school.

Congrats again, Jolt, you will love it there.

Bannie, they might still want you, but they just started interviews and their review process does seem pretty intensive. Give them time.:xf:

i love love love stanford! i hope they review me intensively and give me an interview :xf::xf:

heh. yep i will. i submitted i tink 2-3 weeks after it was out, so i wasnt early anyway. and considering im international.... id be happy if they hadnt already chucked me into a 'lets do him in jan' corner already😉

haha bannie no worries i'm in your boat 😉 haven't heard a peep from stanford. we just gotta hang in there!

how did you manage to get an interview at stanford and then not get in anywhere? not trying to be mean, just a little worried if this is common.
