Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this thread and SDN and I was wondering if any of you knew if Stanford sent out rejections after secondary apps? My secondary was complete in mid november (at the deadline bc one of my recommendation letters wasn't sent until the VERY last minute by my research advisor) but I submitted in Oct. and I still haven't heard back. Should I take the silence as a rejection???

I called yesterday and I got the machine saying that any information we needed to follow up on our secondary was on the site so I took it as a "Don't bother us in the office" kind of thing...what should I do to follow up but not seem obnoxious??? call again, email or just plain wait it out??? I love Stanford!!

heads up i think were out of february interview dates now

really?? how far is the interview season for stanford? i want an interview sooooo much:xf::xf:
Historically they've offered interviews all the way until the end of March (well, as historical as looking at last year's thread is). You've still got some time. Good luck!:xf:

yeah all of march was available as dates when i checked, but curiosity didn't tempt me at the time to click over to see what april looked like.

No, I'm not saying that March interview dates are available, I'm saying they offer interview invites all the way until the end of March, and wrap up with the actual interviewing in April. Stanford only invites a slow trickle of people at a time, and some interview days only have two people. That means if you haven't heard back so far it's definitely not a death sentence for your application, as you still have over two and half months left in which you could be offered an invite.

gotcha my bad. (and you're right)

When I signed up for my interview....all of February was open (I assume it filled up since then) as well as all of March. April dates hadn't been activated yet to sign up for...but they included that month in the calendar so they'll definitely be interviewing til then.

On a side note...I'm heading there in about 3 weeks and sent an email to the admissions office for a host the night following my interview. How long does it take for them to get back to you?

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much a taxi is from SF airport to Stanford? I am thinking of this only b/c my flight gets in late and I'm staying with a student so I don't want to be rude by rolling up to her place at 11pm. Then again, I have no idea what taxis cost... thoughts anyone??

Also, Mdeast, I emailed the student coordinators directly and they emailed right back and told me they would have a host for me when school was back in (I emailed in Dec). Sure enough, I got the email earlier this week, so they are really helpful. PM me if you need their emails though its on the hosting website.

supershuttles never a bad option and probably cheaper than a taxi

Do you do that in advance?? Will it take me to exact location or do I need to get a taxi from the drop off?

Thanks! There's the Caltrain as well which I think is pretty quick. You take the BART to Caltrain and it's only like 20-30 minutes on the train once you get there and there's apparently a shuttle that will pick you up from the train station and take you around campus.

I'd avoid shuttle services, because they'll most likely be in groups of people and will take a while. Cab might be expensive but it'd be direct.

i agree on the shuttle being potentially a little slower, though I don't think it's a terrible call.

as for the caltrain, that might be tricky (at least from my experience). the BART->Caltrain->Marguerite (Stanford's free bus) combination can be sometimes erratic as far as schedule goes, which is why most Stanford undergrads roll with the super shuttle when going home. Also, the bus service is limited late at night to the midnight express. the schedule is at transportation.stanford.edu

Found these guys. $79 for a taxi ride! You're better off renting a car lol. I'd take the shuttle or try for the trains.

If you are getting in late, I would recommend taking Supershuttle. They pick up from the departure level curbside of SFO (look for the sign or ask an employee). Usually takes about an hour to get to campus this way.

You can book ahead on supershuttle.com (use the online discount code for Stanford students: T9X58). Make sure you have the address for where you're going before you book. The total cost for this is $20 using the discount, and they'll drop you off right at the front door of wherever you are staying. Stress-free and relatively cheap!

Another option is to take the SamTrans KX bus. This is only $1.75 each way, picks up from SFO and will drop you off at the Palo Alto caltrain station, which the Stanford shuttle buses run from, but only irregularly at night.

Hope that helps!

Okay great! I was thinking about it but was unsure b/c some people seemed to think it was slow, but it tends to be on the faster side?? Thanks!

people who interviewed recently needs to post some interview feedback! I'll be there in a month, need some direction in prepping!

Look at the link mdeast posted a few links back. It's absolute gold for why Stanford is the best school. I wish I would've had it before my interview.

stanford! stanford! ra! ra! ra!

tomorrow could be another calling day. am i the only one really hyped for this school?

second that! really excited for this one. anyone else interviewing first week in february?

Yup... I've never been so excited in my life... mid-November interviewee here

hmmm... i have a section on http://axess.stanford.edu/ that says "response to graduate admissions decision," but when i click it says i don't have adequate permission to view page. i wonder what it means.

Got the call tonight!!! So excited...YES YES YES YES YES!!!

Holy cow. I'm in. This is a dream come true.

Congrats! I think we've reached some critical mass (i.e. >3 people posting acceptances ) so I've finally create a Facebook group.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=264680346632

Join! It's currently 'private' but not 'secret,' so people will be able to see that you joined. Let me know if you want me to make it secret, and then I will need to invite people one by one. Also, it's called "Stanford Medical School - Class of 2010" because the earlier groups had been created by entering class, not graduating class, I assume because of the large number of people who do 5 years in lovely PA.

:luck: To those waiting!

December interviewee here...wonder when I'll hear back?:xf: I don't remember them mentioning anything about the interview/admission timeline when I was there...

waitlisted. looks like i am the first?

:xf:

happy thoughts. happy thoughts.

^ Hey Jolt, sorry to hear that. How did they let you know?

But whoa...looking at your mdapps looks like you're in super-great shape!! 👍

btw just curious what's the decision schedule pattern looking like?

Congrats guys! Dying to be in your shoes. :xf:
Jolt- I will re-iterate that you are a med school all-star. Don't worry about it.

Anyone else interviewing first week in February? I'm getting there the afternoon/evening before my interview and would love a campus exploration/dinner buddy.

thanks guys. looks like the waitlist moves somewhat. 7 people from SDN last year that I can count on the thread.

Waitlisted too via snail mail. I interviewed mid-november. The letter says we won't hear from them until at least June!?!? I guess I'll wait another 5 months then hehe

I'm about 99.9% positive I'll be at Stanford next year. There's no other school I like better, and I don't think I'd go to another school even if they offered me a full-tuition scholarship. Stanford is pretty cheap even though they don't offer merit scholarships.
