Hi Guys. With the recent discussion on the change in the Status page, I'd like to know if anyone could confirm this for me:

I noticed that in my Status page, under Checklist, it has Admissions/Health. I guess my anxiety is really catching up to me now because I don't remember seeing it say Admissions/Health. I thought it only said Admissions. I have no idea what I'm talking about 🙂 Any help? Thanks!

Im pretty sure it always says Admissions/Health. But if the page itself changes and you start seeing a huge list of health requirements and other requirements (all w/ red Xs) then a decision of some sort might have been made. Once accepted my status page changed and looked just the way i described it. If you really wanna know what's up with your app just call admissions.

My status page went from being all green under the "Med" banner to a new additional banner under the med labeled "GMCB" and all of the GMCB options being red. I did apply MD/PhD, I feel it went well. Is this good?

For those who were accepted (even MD only) what did your page look like afterwards? A new Section open up?

Talk to me Downstate!

JmanDO, what's listed under "gmcb"? i also applied for md/phd and saw that on my status page. no health requirement as described by everyone else, so i'm not sure if it is indeed a good sign.

Is anyone planning on living in the on-campus housing next year? I'm trying to decide if I want to or not...

just sent in the housing application/deposit. i spoke with a few people at downstate and they recommended living on-campus at least for the first year

Just curious... does anyone know when AdCom will meet?

Interview invite today for April 7th 😍

PS I was on hold for spring consideration

Those of you with status page changes: when did you interview?

Just sent mine in as well, although I really hope I get a one person studio, otherwise I may change my mind. Anyone know how hard they are to get? No offense to all you lovely people but I really don't want to have to share a room with someone, I had enough of that in college.

I'm fairly certain we are all MD/PhD applicants. Now that I've been accepted I really couldn't care less about anonymity; I interviewed for in December, have called several times and was recently told they are meeting on Wednesday over the physician scientist bunch.

Personally, I loved downstate, and if accepted to this tiny program it would be a tough decision between DS and the University of Washington

Forgot to quote...

"wondering this as well. Anon when did you interview. Me=1/19"

I live in one now and will be keeping it next year. It's very roomy. 300 sq ft i think.

Yea, no health stuff, but rather PhD stuff. GRE verification, Personal essays, TOEFL, transcript...

I was the only MD/Phd candidate on my date in early Jan, and all the MD's looked nervous, and it made me chuckle, I felt like a wisened old interviewee.

I loved it at DS, the director (Dr. Friedman) was somewhat stern but I felt it went well, and the others Dr.Durkin, and Stewart and the student were especially cool about things. I've been a Brooklynite my entire life and I'm already super comfortable here, would love to stay and rsch in my hometown.

Have you been accepted at DS already to MD/PhD or to another combo prog?

DS, just wanted to say I love you. Please take me.

I got accepted MD only at UW, waiting on a few others. I'm not sure I'm competing with other posters in the thread, you all seem to be molecular/ cell bio and I interviewed for the bioengineering program. I hope my interview went well, you never know though. I'm just extremely happy to have been accepted anywhere.

Definitely not from Brooklyn...

Accepted! ! !!!

For anyone wondering I interviewed on 1/27 and my status page has not changed, I received the envelope today.

Congrats Dana!

Is anyone interviewing on April 7th? I am so psyched to come check out this school :hello:

Interviewed 02/04 - waiting...........:scared::scared::scared:

I'll be withdrawing from my interview 3/17, so maybe someone else can get my spot.

Does anyone know the statistic on how many OOS get accepted to SUNY Downstate? Is it tough to get in if you're OOS?

[/totherescue]

The MSAR reports for the 08-09 class, regarding OOS, there were

3006/5278 applications
379/1074 interviews and
36/183 matriculants ~ 19.6%

Anyone have an idea how long it takes to hear back from downstate post-interview at this point in the season? I have an interview here coming up and I got a couple of other acceptances and would like to know before that may 15th deadline which would be like 6 weeks post-interview for me. Also what about waitlist, do you guys think there are still spots for acceptances or am I going for a waitlist spot which kinda sucks.

Anyone interviewing on 3/25?

Decline my acceptance at Downstate. Good luck to those waitlisted!!!!

To doxycycline: I think it is taking them about a month or so. I interviewed at the beginning of Feb. and received my admissions letter/packet the first week of March. Good luck with your interview!!!

Is that YOU at the computer there? 😎

lol no but i am an academic associate there and volunteer at their infant and child learning center and I do go to brooklyn college. So we probably have seen each other without knowing it. Ironically my two student tour guides were from Brooklyn College as well. They usually take 20 from Brooklyn college each year. 15 of those are from BA/MD though each year. So 5 is the average non BAMD students so good luck to us ischayill.

@ vulcan: Thank you! My interviewer was keith williams. He was very nice

AHHHH Dr. Williams!!!! I looove him. He is the director for the Cardiovascular block in first year. He is one of my favorite lecturers. His tests are tough, but his classes are so much fun. I hope you enjoyed the interview!

That's not true, not even 15 BAMD's make it thru the 4 yr program, at least that's not the current trend. Only 17 are accepted each year anyways (as college freshmen).

I used to be an AAssoc also.

I know they get a lot of BC applicants each year but I think we've a better chance than that. I had a great experience and hope they'll be sending some good news my way soon, real soon.

For OOS, can you declare residency in New York after a certain number of years or do you need to have a paycheck or bill showing you're living in new york to get in state tuition? how does it work?

Ugh...still no interview invite yet...does anyone know if I should give up on this cycle or what?? I thought I'd be ok with a 35 mcat and a 3.7 sgpa (3.3 cgpa) but I was laaate...not past deadlines but primary wasn't finished until october and then secondaries I didn't get in until mid december 🙁

So discouraged!

This was discussed earlier in the thread. I believe it's a year but I don't know about the other requirements. But it's really easy.

yeah that's pretty late. I interviewed in October and was accepted a month later.

sorry about my question. I didn't want to look through 29+ pages hoping someone had already covered it.

I have no idea how they review their applications, but me and my girlfriend submitted our primaries at the same time as you did and we didn't submit our secondary until Jan 3rd. We both got invites in February and interviewed last week, so I wouldn't give up hope just because you submitted your application late. This whole process is so messed up. I submitted some applications early and still haven't heard back. I guess my point is that everything is unpredictable so you never know.

I found my interview here to be low stress just know your AMCAS application and be prepared to explain any low grades or MCAT score (I had a bad freshman year)...just relax and be yourself. Good luck:luck:

If you wind up getting waitlisted, is there considerable mvmnt on the WL?
Contact me DS!

Have gbu730 or mcni6805 heard back yet?

Still checking the mail every day, no news. Its only been 13 (!) weeks as of today for me since I was there. Patience, patience...I'll still be going to work every day for the next six months regardless of anything.

i should've asked this earlier but has anyone gotten their financial aid packet yet with a list of all the financial aid offered to them? Does anyone know how quick we have to return this b/c I've been pushing it off to the side for a couple of weeks now.

i haven't gotten a financial aid packet yet. I still haven't filled out the Downstate Fincancial Aid forms...i dunno if that has anything to do with it.

has anyone who has been accepted done the MD/MPH application? I am curious how long it takes to hear back about this one

what are some other neighborhoods that are publictranspo-friendly and safe besides park slope? i've been looking through craigslist and it seems as though park slope is EXPENSIVE. also, i would prefer it to be closer to queens because my boyfriend might be moving there. I'm OOS so i want to live off campus to get instate tuition next year.

also, are there apartments that have specials for suny students?
how does SUNY help you to find off campus housing?

Just look at which trains and busses go to downstate, and then look for an apartment anywhere along those routes. Park Slope is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Park Slope is great if you've got the dough. Otherwise, just pick any safe neighborhood along a bus or train route.

Did anybody who interviewed in February hear from Downstate yet?
