I was complete back on 7/7 and still haven't heard anything from Temple. I'm guessing that's not good...

Anyone else been complete that long or more and recently received an interview invite?

(I Really want to be in Philly! :scared:)

I just finally received an interview invite (via status page, didn't get an email yet) today. I guess that means "under review" doesn't necessarily imply indefinite hold, even if you've been complete for nearly three months!

Scheduled it for the end of October.

Don't lose hope guys!

WOOOO Just got an interview invite through the status page, I was complete for over 2 months!!! Def. don't lose hope guys!!!!!!!!

Ditto! Was under review since July.
So if you're still under review, don't give up!

Good luck all.

has anyone gotten an interview that was complete after 8/17

i tell ya, everybody in their IT department needs to be fired...their online status page works less than any school ive ever seen.

Submitted 8/24 (no clue when complete) and still "under review"

Doesn't it starting to sound like a hold? It's the same under review with me ever since I can remember.

No clue. I haven't heard from most of my schools and I submitted them all around the same time....if that rings true then I'm on hold at 20+ schools...

I think they are just swamped right now, especially with the AMCAS submission date coming up. I'm not losing hope until it's January...

I just had my interview at Temple yesterday....wow! I was so impressed with the facilities and the students. Both interviews were extremely casual and no stress. Feel free to pm me if anyone has questions about interviewing at Temple or using transportation around Philadelphia.

I had mine yesterday too! The students seemed so happy just like the tour guides said and the facilities were amazing 🙂 The interviews themselves were just like conversations. Definitely a top choice for me!

Hi all,

I'm a first year at Temple. It sounds like most of you are really pleased of what you have seen there. I just wanted to say a few things....to be honest Temple was not my top choice during the application cylcle, and I was a little disappointed to get waitlisted to my dream school. After two months of classes (Anatomy is a monster btw), I am incredibly pleased that I chose to come here. The facilities, faculty, students, and staff make medical school a lot of fun...or as fun as medical school can be. I highly recommend Temple to any of you who are on the fence about it. You will graduate with an excellent medical education and experiences that you may not get at other medical schools.

If any of you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. I will try to log on every couple of days....

Hi jcm5023,

Thanks for being so kind to help out!

I'm just wondering what's your first choice school when you applied? Also, what makes Temple your 2nd choice since you didn't get into your first choice?

If I'm OOS and take loans out on all my tuition & fees at Temple, then I might come out with ~200K debt. How long does it take to pay it all back as a doctor after residency?

same here...waiting to hear from most of my schools!!!

Hey Latuza,

I have lived in the Philadelphia area my whole life, and I definitely wanted to stay here for medical school. All of the physicians I shadowed were Jefferson graduates, and some family friends who work at Jefferson, all highly recommended Jeff. I never had anything against Temple, its just I really wanted to go to Jefferson.
Most medical students are going to be at least 200k in debt when you go to medical school in PA. It is not anything that we really concern ourselves with. Loan payment plans are usually fairly reasonable, and we get compensated enough to pay them back as well as have a comfortable life. Some doctors choose to pay back all of their loans fairly quickly after med school by paying large monthly bills, while others will choose to take a lower monthly rate and pay it back over 20 years or so.
Don't worry about the financial situation. You have plenty of other stresses to deal with as a pre-med and then when you are in medical school.

Def a good plan for me 2.. Because all this time and effort I've spent on preparing to apply.. And now the thousands applying.. I would hate 2 be around me if I don't get in somewhere

For those of you that interviewed, did you get a response after you emailed them the passport sized photo that they requested?

I had all of my stuff submitted by about Sept 15th. Is this too late?

Does applying during the second week of September significantly lower your chances of getting an interview/acceptance?

I didn't get a response. I just logged back into the status site and my picture had been uploaded.

What hotels would those who interviewed recommend? Is the neighborhood around temple okay to stay in or would my car get stolen? Sorry... Chicago mindset. I don't know if Philly is like that.

You can look at your Temple application website and it has student host list, also Holiday Inn Express (1305 Walnut st) and Hampton Inn (1301 Race St) in Center City (downtown) that offer reduced rate for Temple students/interviewees. I called both and they're both about $120/night + tax.

I stayed at Holiday Inn and it's not bad for the price. There's free breakfast, which I love the cinnamon buns and there're free juices too. They provide iron for clothes, I didn't know so I brought my own, lol!

When interviewing, you can leave your luggage at the hotel counter or bring it and leave it at Temple Admissions Office lobby.

You can park at the hotel garage at some fee/night (call them). The neighborhood seems all right, it's right next to the city hall (you can see looking down on Broad St), so the crime shouldn't be too rampant/out of control.

I just took the R1 rail (I think R2 works too) from the PHL (airport) to Market East station, walked 10-15 min to the hotel. To go from Holiday Inn to Temple School of Medicine (or hospital, which is across the street), Take Broad Street Subway Local (BSL) north from Walnut-Locust station to Allegheny Avenue. Current fare is $2.00 (exact change). Do not exit at Temple University stop – that is for the
undergraduate campus. Exit subway train at Allegheny Avenue and after
climbing stairs to street level, walk north on Broad Street toward red Temple flags three blocks to corner of Broad and Tioga. Cross Broad Street to get to the new Medical Education and Research Building on the northwest corner of Broad and Tioga. Enter building, sign in at the security desk and proceed to Suite 124 on the first floor.

The Temple website directions say to exit at Allegheny Ave, but I would exit at Erie station, which is one station after, b/c it's closer to Broad & Tioga, where the Med Edu and Research Building is.

I think it's pretty easy getting around by subway, so you don't need a car. Also, Broad st around 9 to 10 AM is a bit busy, so I would think going by subway is faster.

To help plan your trip in Philadelphia, use their public transportation website SEPTA:
http://airs1.septa.org/bin/query.exe/en?

Anyway, check your Temple application website, it has many info like student host list, Hampton & Holiday Inn info, and directions to and from Temple by car or public transportation.

There're plenty other hotels in the area, I think I saw Marriot. Just check on google or yahoo map. I wasn't able to get a student host b/c they're all busy studying for the Anatomy/something exam or away for their 3rd/4th year rotations. But the med students live away from the campus, so staying with them is likely not closer to Temple SOM than staying at a Center City hotel.

Hi guys, for those of you who've interviewed, what does your status on your Temple status page say?

Mine changed from Under Review --> Interview Invite (I think) --> Interview Complete, and then --> Under Review again.

Is that an error? Why is it Under Review again like before I had my interview?

Thanks!

I still have interview complete, perhaps they are looking at your app again now.

Mine still say's interview complete, but if I click on it to explain the status, it's say's my file is under review. Hopefully it doesn't have anything to do with a waitlist.

I don't think so. From last year's thread, the only way to get a waitlist is to get a "correspondence mailed to you" message as your status

On the Temple website, it says:

Our pre-medical requirements are 8 semester hours of biology with lab, 8 semester hours of general chemistry with lab, 8 semester hours of organic chemistry with lab, 8 semester hours of physics with lab, and 6 semester hours of humanities. If you have not completed the requirements at the time you submit your AMCAS application, your file will be placed on hold until we receive transcripts indicating the final grades from the pre-requisites.

Did anyone else read this and reconsider whether or not they should apply to temple?

I graduated in 2006 and my school (UC Berkeley) had a standard pre-med track that only included one semester of general chemistry. Some med schools seem to be ok with this, but with others it is unclear. I was thinking I would take a second semester someplace local to fill this requirement in the Spring (that's when it is offered) if there's a chance I'll be going to a school that wants me to do so. I was going to wait until winter/early spring to enroll- once I have done most interviews and have a better sense of where I might end up. If that's the case, it sounds like Temple will not review my file until I finish the class in April or June..... aka not worth applying....

Anyone else have a similar situation? I'm going to call, but obv have to wait since it's Sunday.....

I did not read those requirements when applying and I was about to start my second semester of gen chem at the time of application. They definitely did not put me on hold until getting an update because I've already interviewed there!

So def. go ahead and apply! You're going to call and confirm obvi but that's just my experience/two cents 🙂

I'm in exactly the same situation you're in (1 semester of general chemistry while having completed everything else). But I have taken AP Chemistry and it's on my transcript, so that should satisfy for 1 year of general chemistry. For med schools that I'm not sure would accept AP credits, I explained that the Berkeley sequence according to the pre-med advisors is as what everyone has taken. Haven't encountered any problems yet. I was interviewed at Temple too.
Berkeley has a second semester of G Chem, it's Chem 1B, but doesn't have as much space as Chem 1A.

The Temple Admissions FAQ's:
http://www.temple.edu/medicine/admissions/faq.htm
Q: I received AP credit for one of your pre-requisites. Can this be used to fulfill your pre-medical requirements?

A: We will accept AP credits as long as you received credit from your undergraduate institution on your transcript. If you are using AP credit for one of the pre-requisites, we do like to see upper level courses completed in that discipline.

Update: I've called the Temple Office of Admissions today 10/6, and the lady on the phone was really nice. I told her my status issue and she said she didn't see "Under Review" on her computer, but I was seeing that on mine. She called the IT dept people, and it turned out to be system glitch, and they've restored my status to "Interview Complete," and under it "Your application is under review with our office."

Idk, maybe it didn't make a difference, b/c hopefully my app is still in the already interviewed pile to be reviewed by ad com. But being somewhat neurotic this gave me a peace of mind; I don't want them to overlook my app! Thanks for all of you guys who answered.

Anyone still under review from a complete app in late July/early August? Should I be expecting a rejection?

complete in july and STILL under review

Same ... don't fret guys, my friend who was a VERY strong applicant was done as early as she could be last year and she interviewed in January here. It's a pretty random process!

Hey guys,

I believe this process is done randomly. Last year I had submitted my secondary application sometime in the middle of July. I did not get an interview invite from Temple until February. I got accepted the last week of Feb. The admsissions offices for medical school review somewhere around 10 thousand applications a year. These applications are reviewed by a small number of people so it takes them a long time to get through everybody. If you have not heard anything by winter break, I would recommend sending them an email to let them know you are still interested.

invite today, and calendar's surprisingly not that full. as in they offered me two weeks from now as earliest.

Do you think having an extra letter of rec from an alumni helps ? sent in post-interview invite

Hooray!! Interview Invite!! :biglove:

You know, every single one is a blessing! So any advice from any students who have already been to their interview?? It would be so appreciated!! Thank you!

congrats guys 🙂 when were you complete? and did you check your status page or email?!

I got one today too! I was complete on 7/10, so don't lose hope. I got it by email because I stopped checking my status here about a week ago. I'd pretty much lost hope for philadelphia.

Yes, I was complete around 7/13 so don't give up... I was e-mailed, but my status has changed as well 🙂 Good luck! Plus, the interview dates available start late in October, so they're not too filled up (I think...?)

any thoughts on having a letter of rec from an alumni sent in post interview invite? This is the school I WANT to go to and I am hoping this letter helps me out.

Thanks

What is it about Temple that makes you really WANT to go there? Just curious. Good luck!

Well, since Temple has a button on application website to submit additional/supplemental info, I'm sure they don't mind receiving an additional letter. Plus they set no max on # of letters too.

hey got interview coming up, was wondering, for those who drove there, where is the best place to park?

its a school that brings back philly natives and an exceptional clinical prep. the cases there are pretty bumpin

I parked in a lot on the corner of broad and tioga. It was only 12 dollars for the whole morning/afternoon and is literally across the street from the medical school. I don't think you can do much better than that. 🙄

just got an interview invite today after being on hold since august or so. so dont lose hope 🙂 im psyched to see philly

anyone interviewing tomorrow?

Good luck!

Congratulations to uva2010!

Also anyone nervous and excited about results coming out on Thurs, Oct 15?

I hope they won't be delayed, b/c last year the results didn't come out until Nov, even though they said Oct 15...

Is it going to be agonizing if you get a "correspondence will be mailed to you"? B/c then you don't know if it's a rejection or waitlist until the mail comes.

Is it supposed to say "accepted" if you're accepted, and everything else "correspondence will be mailed to you"?
