I'll take your word for it, but personally, I've lived in the Philadelphia area my whole life and that entire area, aside from the campus, scares the bejesus out of me.

been in philly for the past 11 years, spent a lot of time around west philly and north philly and never had problems, like greatnt249 said if you don't look for trouble ull be ok

got the letter in the mail today, waitlisted. complete 9/09, interview 1/28.

Also got the mail today. Waitlisted, OOS, complete 9/1 interviewed 1/26

Does everyone either get accepted or waitlisted after interview?
I haven't read anywhere in this thread about someone being rejected after interview.
Just trying to figure out what my chances are of coming off the waitlist...

Thanks for the help. What are the plusses and minuses of the burbs and center city? What are some of the advantages? Do students favor one area over another? Thanks.

what are you guys talking about? The Temple neighborhood is as bad as it gets in Philly. Not kidding...I was pulled over by the police at night right around there because I was stopping at red lights on the smaller streets. they thought I was looking for drugs...I am not kidding. Great trauma opportunities at Temple by the way.

were you looking for drugs? 🙄

Temple is in a pretty bad neighborhood IMO. On campus its not too bad...but step off 100 yards and youre in the hood. Ive lived here 3 years now..2 apts in the city, both in manayunk. I live in the burbs now...and just bought a house not too far from where I am now. I am all for living out where I do now. More spread out

Nope, and the area around campus isn't as Wild West as you make it out to be, either. Sure, campus isn't in the best part of Philadelphia, but just because it isn't the nicest area to look at off-campus doesn't mean that it's a war zone. Keep your head on straight and you shouldn't have any problems; you really only find yourself in trouble if you look for it.

That being said, most of the students I know live either in Center City or the suburb areas out in East Falls/Manayunk/Roxborough. I personally live in the 'burbs, but where you live really depends on what kind of lifestyle you're looking to have when you get here.

👍

No place is safe anymore. I'd like to show stats from a local suburban university that didn't have nearly the decent security as some in-city campuses have--but they aren't readily available without some work.

People just have to stay aware--anywhere. You can get attacked at any of the malls. . . the nice King of Prussia included.

Yeah. There is a reason I CCW at KOP! Especially at night.

Then don't walk 100 yards away from Broad Street while on campus...simple solution to a simple problem. You really have no business walking too much further behind the medical campus, anyway, especially at night.

Like I said earlier, you usually only find trouble in that area if you go looking for it. Cops patrol the area regularly (as plauto's seen). That, and most of the trouble I've heard of comes from main campus, and I'm willing to bet most of the victims were freshman/sophomores who weren't smart about living in a city environment.

yes, you're right. I can't even remember the last time I heard of something happening on campus. That's why I think it's a great place to learn, just not to live.

if I remember correctly it was the light at Tioga and Germantown, it was at night

Does anyone know if Temple offers any merit based scholarships? Or how generous they are with money? I tried to ask at the interview but I didn't really get a clear answer.

Hey Guys,

I've been complete at Temple since mid october and my file still says I'm under review.

Do you know how long they interview until? Should I send them an LOI or is it basically over?

Interested to know the answer to this question as well...
not sure if anyone answered this yet... but yes there is a 2nd look day... i want to say late march/early april?

here's the email, but i haven't received the 'more details' notice yet.

SAVE THE DATE!!

Temple University School of Medicine will be hosting a Second Look for accepted students on Friday, March 26th. The day will provide an opportunity to meet with students, faculty, and administrators from Temple. As a member of the class of 2014, this is an opportunity to revisit our school and hear more about the curriculum, programs, and services offered to Temple medical students as well as meet your future classmates.

More details will be sent next week.

On the same boat, same question! 😎

We're too cool I guess.

Haha... so true, i thought i was on the GW thread for a second 😉

hm, i guess a letter of interest at temple can't hurt.. but second look day March 26th? That makes me feel like there arent many interview spots left... and its almost March 1st.

Anyone know how late Temple interviews (not sure if its been posted before...) just wondering so i know how to prioritize my LOIs.

Here's the info for Second Look at Temple. Can I just point out how Dave and Buster's is an incorporated part of this event!

The agenda for the "Second Look" at Temple University School of Medicine on Friday, March 26th is below. The day will start with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:15 am and provide an opportunity to meet with students, faculty, and administrators from Temple. As a member of the class of 2014, this is an opportunity to revisit our school and hear more about the curriculum, programs, and services offered to Temple medical students as well as meet your future classmates.

Complimentary parking will be available in the Ontario West Garage the day of the event. Confirmation emails will be sent the week of the event and contain directions and parking information.

The Second Look program will finish around 3:30. After the Second Look, we will be going to Dave and Busters (located along the waterfront not far from Center City) from 4 - 7 pm. There will be a Temple bus available to take students who did not drive to the Second Look directly to Dave and Busters. For students who drove to the Second Look, there is parking available at Dave and Busters. At 7:00 the Temple bus will leave Dave and Busters and make stops downtown to drop students who are staying in Center City. The bus will not return to Temple after Dave and Busters.

I'm really sad the second look falls on the same day as another school that I'm thinking of attending. 🙁 Now I have to pick which one to go to.

I don't know if I can afford flying out for Second Look 🙁

Yay accepted today!! Interviewed on 2/3- funny that I got a email telling me I was in I thought only the status page would change.

Hey guys! MS3 at temple. I know this is a stressful time for you, but it will all work out. Just wanted to share that I got waitlisted and they pulled me off in May. I was accepted at other schools (and when I was applying schools could see where you were accepted after March something?) but did send a letter of intent. I don't know if that helps at all?

pomchem, when did you get that info? I got the initial email from Temple on the 19th saying there would be a follow-up, but I still haven't gotten the follow-up...

Hey all,
Any interview invites lately? How late does TUSM's season go? Complete since beginning of Oct...Better to hear back anything than nothing at all. 🙁

Im in the same boat. Might as well chalk them up as a silent reject. Ahh well...

i received the email on Feb 26. hope that helps!

I actually got the email right after I posted that. For some reason, Google didn't retrieve it from my school email (which I never check manually).

See everyone there

Anyone decided on Temple? I think barring something unforeseeable at Second Look, I will matriculate. It just seems like the right place for me for many different reasons.

I can't even make it to the second look and I'm pretty sure that I will be matriculating. Seemed like the right place for me too. I just need them to switch my clinical rotation site from St. Lukes to Temple Hospital and I will be one happy girl!

i got into temple as well but i can't seem to figure out where it says where my clinical rotation site will be. Can anyone tell me where they have it written?

It will be written in your letter of acceptance.

If you can't find it in your letter, I'm almost positive you got placed at Temple. Does it say "This acceptance is for Temple and affiliates clinical campus" in the first paragraph? Because that means you were placed at Temple for your clinical rotations, even though I don't think the wording is particularly clear. I didn't know that's what that was supposed to mean either, so I called the office...and they laughed at me for my inability to read. Hopefully I can save you from that same fate.

lol u did

So finally I was placed on a waitlist to switch to Temple Clinical Campus from St. Lukes. The only thing is that they won't tell me if I was able to switch until May 15th. Obviously the clinical site is kind of a factor in my decision to attend Temple. Kind of annoying that they won't tell me beforehand. ...

Is anyone still under review here or has this 4 month wait entered silent rejection territory?
