Finally received Complete email - 7/29/09
 
Complete email. I first thought it was an interview invite, lol.
 
anyone else having trouble with the picture upload? i cant get one to be under 100kb using my computer's programs.. and then when i use the link they provide, the edited photo wont save.. any suggestions?? 😕

I'm just wondering because I received that yesterday, but my status on their website says they still haven't received my LORs 😕
 
My app says "complete" online. Good enough for me.

Maybe they don't need LORs to be considered complete here... just a thought
 
I just completed audit and received a "complete" e-mail today.
 
complete here too-i wonder how fast they'll start showing us interview decisions?

Oh, I'm not sure, but I just called to make sure and was told that they received my letters. So I'm happy now. 🙂

last year they started sending out interview invites at the end of august. but it seems like most schools are doing things a little earlier this year...we'll see.

also, some stats i found from looking through last year's thread.

Tufts University
Total: 6854 applied, 844 interviewed, 493 were accepted, 173 enrolled
IS: 630 applied, 164 interviewed, 111 were accepted, 51 enrolled
OOS: 6224 applied, 680 interviewed, 382 were accepted, 122 enrolled

looks like if you get interviewed, you have a strong shot of being accepted.

So the hurdle is getting the interview.

Many schools accept a high percentage of those they interview.

wow... I knew getting to the interview was a big step but do other schools have this high of an acceptance rate for interviewees too?

no ttufts is relaly high. Some schools are more around the 25% mark or so. Most schools arent at the 50% rate.
 
Omg this school is expensive!!! I expected total estimated costs to be about 70 grand tops, like it is for most private schools. But on the website, the total costs are as high as 85 grand by 3rd year! WTF?!?

both boston schools are really expensive, it just is what it is...Unless you go to an in state school, you are paying out the ass normally. Just the nature of the best. That or you somehow get a full tuition scholarship for w/e reasons....but there arent too many of those floating around normally.
 
i interviewed last year but am a reapp. In the additional section I talked about how much I enjoyed the school when I went, is that a good thing? How are they with reapps? This is def a top school! I love Boston!
 
I got the complete email today. Anyone knows why they send out interviews via snail mail and email? What's in the snail mail?
 
Funny, it looks like it pays to be an in state student. This trend holds for BU and harvard too. I've always wondered why private institutions would give some preference to in-state students. But no complaints here, I'm a MA resident!

my guess is they want their graduates to stay in the area and practice there. that is more likely to happen with in staters than out of staters.
 
It took 7 days for me to receive my complete e-mail. This was late July/early August
 
I got the completed email 2-3 weeks ago although the app program says one of my additional letters hasnt been downloaded...I guess I should call them huh?
 
Anyone know if the question about family at Tufts is important? I forgot that one of my parents did a sort of post-doc fellowship there....I forgot to write that in. If it's important I'll shoot them an email but if not I'm just going to leave it.

I need advice!!

This is taken from Tufts website:

"Meet Our Eligibility Requirements: To become eligible to apply, applicants must meet our course prerequisites" which is:

"A minimum of three years of college work is required, and strong preference is given to applicants who will earn a bachelor's degree from an American college or university before medical school matriculation."

My problem is that Im graduating in 3 years from undergrad, I so far finished my second year but considered a senior now credit wise. So I dont have "a minimum of three years of college work" for applying if we just count the years and not the credits.
Can I still apply?😕😕
 
I think thats by matriculation. Im sure its not a big deal, but you might wanna call. I dont think they would turn away someone for completing a 4 year degree in 3
 
five days between submitting and getting certified (completed), pretty quick I must say, now just gotta sit back and watch :corny:

by the way, anyone know when they started sending out interview invites last year? maybe i'll go through the 600+ posts from last year.


Edit: Just checked, 8/26 first invite

Hey all- I have an apartment a bit down the street from Tufts in Davis sq. if you're looking for a place to crash before the interview! Send me a message if you'd like to take my futon for the night. And if you're feeling adventurous, it doesn't take much to persuade me to hit the townie pubs..

Yes, most "prestigious" schools(i.e. ranked by USNews) have high acceptance rates. Most are in the 40-60 range. Miami's acceptance rate for interviewees is about 77%, for example.

Those are the 2007 numbers, these are the 2008 numbers:

Total: 7072 applied, 871 interviewed, 556 were accepted, 178 enrolled
IS: 617 applied, 166 interviewed, 108 were accepted, 52 enrolled
OOS: 6455 applied, 705 interviewed, 448 were accepted, 126 enrolled

I'm gonna guess that with the economy the way it is, we're gonna see the acceptance rate climb higher again this year. This school is REALLY expensive all around.

the medical school is in boston, not somerville. so davis square would actually be a pretty inconvenient place to stay before an interview 😉
 
I wouldn't say Davis is inconvenient. Davis square is right on the red line of the subway - you'd just have to hop on the red line, take it to Park Street and walk a few blocks. It would take like 20 minutes and it would cost only $2 😉

+1 👍, Tufts is right off orange line on Chinatown? correct me if I am right it's been a while since I've been out there
