First year academic calendar is up for class of 2014🙂

It looks like they adjusted Class of 2013 second year schedule from what they originally planned. They were supposed to be out the first or second week of March according to the classes diagram they provided at the interview, but now it is end of April. I wonder if that has anything to do with being overburdened this year...

I'm getting excited!

It's still the same, I think. It says class of 2013 ends M2 April 29th and begins M3 May 9th. Thefore, M2 classes must end some time in March and April is devoted to studying for boards. M2 students get 6 weeks reserved for boards studying, right?

Ahhh how right you are. I missed the start date of 2013 third year. Thank you for clearing that up.

I'm getting excited too. Although I like how our white coat ceremony is two months after medical school has started....I thought most schools did it in August

Anyone get assigned to rooms in Posner Hall yet? How optimistic are you about living in a dorm again hahha?

I applied for one and apparently am #2 on the waitlist. I have no idea if I actually will get a room, so it's hard to know if I should be looking for an apartment. Anyone know if people tend to drop off the list after they have been assigned a room?

To yall who got dorms/are on waiting list..how did you find out and when did you submit your housing application? Thanks!

anyone looking for housing another M13 and I have a room opening up sept 1st. see below for pics/description, shoot me a message with questions:

Just out of curiosity, please do not take this the wrong way, but what is the motivation for wanting to live in a dorm versus an apartment?

Haha don't worry no one is offended. I'll answer as I faced this dilemma earlier. For me, it was the proximity and the fact that Boston (and the East Coast in general) is completely foreign to me. I figure dorms would give me a chance to acclimate to the area so that I can move into an apartment 2nd year. Additionally, it is really hard to find apartments when you are 3000 miles away and so this would give me a chance to look stuff up next year, find roommates I like, find furniture, blah blah.

I am fully aware of the "cons" of dorms. I lived in them during college and when I studied abroad. But at this point, it seemed ilke the best idea.

Does anyone know what banks have ATMs near the med school? Said another way - what banks are popular among Tufts medical students?

bank of america is your best bet

B of A and Citi are both right there. Also, Sovereign has a ton of branches and ATMs around Boston, and a bank right by the school as well.

I was in your same shoes when I moved out here a couple years ago, I had to find a place from across the country. I found a broker who was willing to work with me and send me pics of apartments, and I used Google Maps to check out neighborhoods. I'll admit, it was a process, but I'm glad I did it. Just personal preference, I suppose. I'll be moving in the next few months and will start looking for a roommate or two soon, probably incoming med students.

That's fortunate. I've been contacting some brokers and they all make me want to shoot myself. And I can't find anything good that amounts to less than 1200/month. Add to that cost of utilities and transport since most apartments will require you to take the T. Now that's expensive.

For sure, that's more than I'm willing to pay! What areas are you looking? Oh and FYI, the monthly T pass costs $60, but Tufts will reimburse you $15 on it, which doesn't seem like much but it adds up over the course of 4 years.

I'm looking mostly at back bay, brookline, and beacon hill. How about you? I'm having trouble picking an apartment because I don't know how long of a commute is too long? What do you think? I found some gorgeous places for relatively cheap but it's about a 30 minute commute on the green line. Everything I've seen in Chinatown so far was pretty awful.

I didn't know Tufts reimbursed you for the pass, that's pretty awesome (even if it's not that much)

Has anyone created a Tufts account yet? I did a couple of days ago but can't access my email on webmail.

Also, where is that student forum that they mentioned on the secondary app. page?

SilverNeedle, did someone tell you about the $15 off the T pass or did you read that on their website. I hadn't heard about this deal this before. This is great. Think they'll tell us about it during orienation?

I've lived in an apartment in Brookline (specifically, Brookline Village) for the past 2 years and plan on living here throughout med school. I was doing an MPH at Tufts so I can tell you my experience. The commute varies, I leave about 45 mins (door to door) and am usually 5-10 mins early, and I've made it in 20 mins. I think length of commute is just a matter of personal preference. I've used the time to read the paper or look over notes, so an extra few minutes here and there doesn't bother me if I'm being productive.

The green line has 4 branches, and I think the D line is the fastest because it doesn't go through traffic. If you live far enough east, you can catch any of the lines, though.

Back Bay, Brookline, and Beacon Hill are all more expensive areas, but you'll probably find nicer apartments there. One plus (of many) about living in Brookline is that the apartments are bigger because you're in the suburbs. How important are things like grocery stores, restaurants, bars, etc to you?

Yes they'll probably mention it, but here's the webpage:
http://finance.tufts.edu/bursar/?pid=10

You have the option of either buying the pass yourself every month then getting reimbursed in cash (once every 3 months) or paying for a semester's worth of passes up front and picking it up each month at the bursar's office on campus. The cost is the same.

I was able to make my account. At the end they give you a UTLN, your email address, and student ID number.

I just logged on after and it workd fine.

A suggestion for Boston area housing.....

The communities on the Blue line, which goes out to Revere Beach, etc. from the city, has surprisingly affordable apartment options. Some of the communities are a bit rough (Orient Heights has a bad rap), but living in East Boston (near the Airport) this past year has been great. Cheap rent (2 bedrooms for $1200, often with heat and hot water included), about 1/2 an hour from Tufts Medical (Blue to Orange Line), and a community with restaurants, a YMCA, parks, etc.

Looking forward to seeing all the TUSM 2014 class at orientation!

Has anyone heard of any wait list movement? Is there a better place for me to check on this? I really really want to attend Tufts but haven't heard of anyone getting accepted from the wait list. Any glimmer of hope would be great...

2 people on sdn have been pulled off the waitlist so far and one of the two turned down the offer. There is a "Tufts Waitlist" thread in the school-specific section where people are updating about the waitlist.
