Hey guys- I've been perusing the forums of SDN for about a year now, but this is my first post!

I was complete at Tufts on Sept 15th, and I got an interview on October 30th (I'll be interviewing in a few weeks on Jan 14th). I've also applied to the combined MD/MBA program.

thamsenman, did you notify Tufts that you're going for a dual-degree before your interview, or after? And if you told them before, what kind of questions did they ask you during the interview concerning that?

Thanks for the help!

I don't think it has that much of a bearing on your MD interview. At Tufts, you must first be accepted for MD before being considered for MD/MBA or MD/MPH. Unlike Md/PHD programs, where you are often accepted/rejected for the MD/PHD and can still be considered for MD if your rejected MD/PHD

Before, my interviewer grilled me on why I applied to both the Fletcher MA and the MBA program. Got approved for the MD/MBA soon after admission 🙂

Good luck!

Any advice or insight as to what I can expect for the interview day?

Really? I found this to be the most relaxed interview by far... the questions were straight forward and pretty much just narrative. I loved my interview here (of course it ran over which meant running after the tour, but besides that...)

I also found the interview day to be relaxed and extremely well organized compared to other schools.

You'll arrive in the morning, have a couple info sessions (curriculum, financial aid, research, student life, etc.) and then have lunch with med students. After that you'll either go on a tour of the medical school / Tufts medical center or do your two interviews back to back, which occur in designated interview rooms next to the main room, where your interviewers will be waiting for you. Whichever thing you didn't do first (interviews/tour) you do right afterwards.

I found my interviews to be extremely conversational and relaxed. I was a bit turned off initially by the number of interviewees on each day (>30 when I was there), but have since found out that this is far from unique and actually helps relieve the stress by making you feel less judged outside of your interview time (e.g. with so many people at the fin aid talk, no-one will care if you didn't have any questions to ask etc.).

Ha! One funny thing about the financial aid talk was they talk about a "frugal" student spending $6 for breakfast per month. I was thinking "um, a box of cereal is about $6 and there is no way that's going to last a month..."

Haha, the financial aid talk was a bit much. I learned such gems as brewing coffee at home is cheaper than going to starbucks every day, going to movies everyday gets expensive, etc.

It did have an interesting future budget though, assuming Tufts level of debt and an internists salary, showing that even Tufts astronomical costs can be paid back while living a reasonably nice life style without going into derm or plastics.

do you buy your cereal at hippy, new-agey, unicorn-loving food places*? this might be your problem?

$6 for a box of cereal :meanie:

*I'm not hating, I'm a member of a food co-op, I just don't buy cereal there.

I think this varies from day-to-day. My interview was last week and I had about 18-20 there.

Ditto. The most organized interview I've attended. I was impressed with them.

Nope, but I do live in NYC... so unless there's a sale, prices can get high on stuff....

Ah, NYC...send my condolences to your checking account.

edit - not that mine will be any better if I end up picking Tufts

Any news about acceptances? I interviewed 11/24 and thought they said something about letting us know before the new year. Is their any chance they are even working today or the rest of this week? I get nervous every time I get a phone call and check my email 200 times a day even though it pops up when I get a message 😳

Same thing, really.

Me too...and I'm sad about it. Complete since late September. For current Tufts students: have any experience with getting interview invitations from them in January or Feb?

I interviewed on 12/10, and she said with confidence that decisions will go out at the end of the first week in January. I assume that would include you as well.

One of the med students (1st yr) I had lunch with said he interviewed in February. :luck:

So I guess we're still in the running.

Got my interview moved up by 9 days; turns out obsessively checking the calendar payed off.

I work at a lab in the Rochester Med Center so it was just a matter of stopping by and letting them know that I was flexible on dates since I'm pretty much there every day. Luckily there was a cancellation for later that week and I got moved up.

Does anyone know how long after an interview to expect to hear back?

I interviewed 12/10 and they said we'll hear back first week of Jan.

I have several classmates here at Tufts that interviewed in March....

I also interviewed on this day, and they said they would get back to us either in late december or by the latest the beginning of January. I hope that's helpful.

Wohoo!!!! Acceptance call today (actually a message, bc I was in the shower). I interviewed 12/15!!! So this was quite a surprise bc it was so early. They said on our day we would hear back January.

Wow. That was fast. Congrats!!

Congrats alibai3ah! Anyone else hear anything today?? I interviewed early December and would really love to hear some good news from them.

They're working during the holidays, nice!👍

According to a post earlier, someone received his or her acceptance on thanksgiving day.... So that is dedication on Dean Neumeyer's part.

Just got an email from tufts (I'm assuming it's a mass email for everyone who interviewed in Nov & Dec) telling me to check and update the MAILING address on the tufts secondary. Looks like letters to those who interviewed in nov/dec are going out early next week!

A present for new year's? Now will it be a lump of coal or an awesome blissful experience. Hmm. It's like christmas all over again 🙂

edit: Now the question is, if you don't get a call this week / early next week; does that mean you are getting a lump of coal in the mail...

Well I received that email also asking me to update my contact information. And I received the acceptance call yesterday from the dean. I don't think it means anything, b/c they will be calling out this week and next week.

I'm also surprised that not a single other person has claimed to get an acceptance from Tufts (who interviewed sometime in December)??

I interviewed on the 24th. I received the email this morning and was kinda disappointed because I thought it meant the rejection or waitlist letter was in the mail. I then checked my phone and saw a miss call and voice messages and surprisingly it was a call from Dean Neumeyer. Woohooo!!!!

i also interviewed in early dec. but no news so far, except for the email msg to update addresses....wonder if anyone else has heard back. congrats to the acceptances!

No news yet and I interviewed early December also...

I interviewed the 24th of nov and just got the email as well. Good to hear that it doesn't mean anything about acceptance either way but hearing about these acceptance calls has got me crazy. I keep staring at the phone and I will definitely not take the elevator on the way up to lab today because I know if I do I will have to check my messages immediately after in case I missed the call and have to hear "no new messages" and that voice mail lady always sounds like she's making fun of me.

has anyone who interviewed nov/dec heard anything from tufts? its weird that this forum is so quiet a day after the update email msg was sent...

I was wondering this too. It seems like some, but maybe not very many, calls were made the last two days. I'm still anxiously waiting to hear from them and just hoping news might come today. The waiting the past day or two has been brutal.

Just wanted to keep people posted... got the call on New Years Day, so they are still going out. Interviewed 11/24

If you go to www.bostondowntown.doubletree.com and make your reservation using Corporate account # 02657456, you get a king non-smoking room for $99. Just print out the interview invite email to show them when you check in to validate the rate. It's technically for Residency interviews, but they don't seem to know the difference.

Just got the call today (1/2/10). Interviewed on 12/8/09. ~ 3 week turn around (+ holidays) as they said!

Whoooo! Exciting times 🙂 Didn't expect the call on a saturday evening (about 6pm) - but it definitely made my week. What a great way to start the new year :luck:
