some specialties you match as a PGY2...so you have to do a prelim or transitional year where you either rotate through a number of different specialties or where youdo Medicine or GS, so its definitely not a bad thing

Well, the list above had a lot of people matched into "prelim only". That usually means they didn't get an "advanced" program and are just going to try their luck again in the match next year. So in terms of whether it's a good match list, I'd say it's kind of a bad thing -- it's folks who didn't get what they shot for.

But as I've expressed on other threads, a match list is generally not useful in the hands of a premed, because they don't know how to read them, don't know what programs are good versus malignant in each specialty and are basically guessing what people could get based on what they got, which is always wrong since people apply to what they want, not simply what they can get. Counting up ROAD specialties is not useful analysis -- if the top dozen people in a given year wanted IM, you might say a match list looks bad because it had 12 fewer people in competitive specialties, when in fact that was a list where more people got what they wanted. Trying to interpret a match list is like watching the last 5 minutes of a movie without the sound, and trying to extrapolate what led up to that point. You will be wrong almost always. So too trying to guess whether people got what they wanted, had to settle, lucked out. Simply a waste of time.

Wow, compared to the last few years UNC's match list is looking really great

Do any schools publish what percent of their students get into one of their top 3 residency choices? That should be a little more useful, though I guess some schools are more likely to pressure you to lower your standards than others...

the aamc stopped providing that data to the schools a few years ago. and match lists in general are useful only for the students whose names are on the list.

It's actually NOT useful. Applicants only rank programs they got interviews at. Just b/c you got your #1 doesn't mean it wasn't your last choice going into applications, but yet the only school you got an interview at. Likewise, someone could rank MGH #8. Ok, you went down to #8... but you matched at MGH.

🙁
Oh... ok.

🙁
Oh... ok.

Additionally, as you hinted in your earlier post, there was the possibility that schools would pressure their students into tailoring their ROL and ranking a "safe" choice high on their list, because the schools wanted to brag that "95% of our students match to one of their top 3 choices"

Can someone post the Columbia match list? It's on the site, but you need a password to access it.

From what I heard on the interview trail, there were more than that applying.

MCW's has not been released to the public yet. They need to go through and edit any corrections people send in and our names removed, then it'll be posted on that link that SDN2013 posted.

The pdf I have with the match results has ppl's names on it, so I just copied the information I could below. It would have taken me forever to count how many are going to which place, but I did provide total matched into each specialty and the different places. UCLA was by far the most common, followed by other places in CA such as UCSF/UCSD/USC/Cedars/Stanford.
I don't know why the anesthesia number is so high. Not sure if that is normal or not.
