2009 Match Stats

Hmm, good news is more spots, fewer applicants, bad news is higher step 1 by 3 points.

Does the U.S. Seniors category only include allopathic medical schools? Or is it allopathic and osteopathic 4th years?

I couldn't find clarification on the SF match website. Thanks.

I may just be a naive first year, but I was looking at the stats and it seems that the match rate for US seniors is pretty good.. being around 90 percent the last three years. Am I looking at the right number, or is it still like a 50/50 shot of matching? Do half of the 90 percent match at a bad program or something??

i think the 90% matching US senior category is percentage of US seniors out of ppl who matched.. not the matching rate..

you can't deduce the matching rate for US seniors from this chart.. but the overall matching rate is 458/767 = 59% ..
i'm guessing the number would be a bit higher for US seniors and lower for US grads/IMG

True. The 90% figure is the percentage of those who matched who are US allopathic seniors. Actually this year it's 92%. 5% was US grads & only 3% of those who matched are IMGs.

92% is not the match rate of all US seniors who apply.

I think the denominator should perhaps be 645 (total # of applicants ranked), rather than 767 (total # of CAS participants). It seems like not everyone who filled out a CAS application submitted a rank list.

Then again, maybe those who didn't submit a rank list weren't offered any interviews, in which case 767 is a better gauge of the total applicant pool this year.
