I was wondering what some of you think my chances would be to get accepted into San Antonio? My gf is going to med school there and there isn't ANY other school that I even really want to go to aside from UTHSCSA. My extra curric are fine...shadowing, volunteer work, etc. I have taken 44 hrs adv (3000+) level science and my dat aa and ts scores are ok (See my predents page for the rest). The only thing that worries me is my pat and qr scores. I have considered retaking the dat...but that would mean I would actually have to study for it this time.I would appreciate anyones opinion.

Just going to throw this out there...in my opinion, I think it's impossible to predict what San Antonio is looking for...I had a 3.92 GPA with a Biochem major, and a 22/22/21 DAT with shadowing experience and a summer dental program down in houston....and I didn't even make the wait list....Not complaining b/c I got into my #1 of Houston, but still...I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I think my stats as a TX resident were AT LEAST good enough for the wait list...
 
wow dcredskins thats rough...and it kinda makes me worried. but oh well ive done all i can do and its bout to be outta my hands anyway. so if ur a redskins fan r u also a colt brennan fan? if the 'skins keep him i think he'll be their starter within the next three years. I get sick of ppl always hatin on him too...i've seen him play and the guy is the real deal.

Hey yall,

Does anyone else feel like there has not been much action going on with the texas schools? i have not heard of many people getting interviews lately.. Im starting to wonder whats up. Ive already had two interview invites from out of state schools... I thought texas was supposed to move pretty fast also.. maybe they dont like me... should i be worried?

haha something like that, I just like keepin' it real....

Had my SA interview today, it went really well. More laid back that I thought it would be hopefully I impressed some people, even though when I think back I feel that I spoke too fast but I just had so much to say in so little time!

damn homie thats bad azz. hope it went well. How laid back was it? cause ive heard that san antonio ppl have really grilled some kids with ridiculous questions about their apps

dont mock me with your pseudo gangsta talk B! I was not "grilled" by any weird questions mainly got asked about the shadowing I had done and about some of the stuff in my PS. But then again I guess it depends on who you get interviewing you.
 
Wow..I just called TMDSAS, talked as politely as possible and got hungup on. The lady knows my tmdsas id, I'm afraid she might do something to my application..seriously.

All I wanted to ask was how long it takes to send scores electronically

Haha, that's funny, for me they kept sending my cert. page with everything back saying I hadn't "followed directions and submitted it online first" which I had. They seriously sent it back twice and both times they called me during class. The second time, I got up and left class and told them I didn't know what they wanted me to do, I had already submitted it! Phew, finally they figured it out. Overall though they've been good and pretty darn quick so it hasn't been too bad.

I was just wondering, does anyone knows the percentage of interviewees getting accepted. Could it possibly as high as 50/50 or lower?
 
so I got a letter from san antonio today... but it was just confirmation that they received my app 🙁. huge tease haha. they said an interview invite would come by mail too, if invited. do all the texas schools use snail mail exclusively for interview invites??
 
it didn't take very long for them to verify my application....maybe a little less than a week once I sent in pictures/money.

but I, much like most of you, am patiently waiting for some sort of sign from any school. 🙂

Thundercatz..... I think your fine as a TX resident, your DAT is solid! Just prepare to dodge those gpa questions (positively) in the interview and you'll be alright! good luck!

Even with an AA of 20 it may be a tough sell with a gpa barely over 3.0. Of course, miracles do happen.
 
Hey guys just wondering if you guys have input regarding my stats based on your previous experience, knowledge, etc.

PAT: 19
QR: 19
BIO: 20
OC: 22
GC: 27
TS: 22
AA: 22


Overall GPA: 3.84
Science GPA: 3.86
BA Chem

Only thing I have left is telling HPAC to send my rec letters out... they finally evaluated me today and hopefully I get a response by friday.

I think it depends on how many hours you have making up your GPA. If you have like 150hrs total then you will a lot of 4.0s to even inc. your gpa by a little since most of those points get diluted by your total number of hours. If this is the case maybe you can retake and increase your score to lets say a 22AA (by no means is this easy) and that will help balance out your application. This is just the way I see it.

Your gpa may be "diluted" as you put it but applying with an M.S. or a Ph.D. with a 4.0 average will weight more heavily than the 150 hours of undergrad gpa at 3.0.

Doc -I'm just saying my GPA and DAT aren't outstanding and I almost got in - but there are a lot of other factors involved that they look at.
 
People from UofH get awesome DAT scores 😎 I hope I will continue the trend when I apply next year!

You are right about other factors, but in the last cycle they appear to have been a non issue.
 
I submitted my application on 8/11 (yea,,,late🙁) FINALLY ...sigh;;;
I don't expect to hear from schools until like late september or october...(i mean if i get interview)...i wasn't that worried until i saw someone posted that schools already booked their november interviews...which means i wouldn't be able to hear from them on december first!!!!!!😱

EC - i think i have enough (over 100 hours of shadowing, leadership, volunteering, work experience)
Residency - texas resident, but i'll be an international student out of state schools (ethnicity - Asian)

Applying to San Antonio, Baylor, Houston, Howard, NYU, Columbia, USC, Tufts, Penn, UoP, Case, Temple.
(i mostly chose private out of state schools)

you have chance for sure. But you know Texas schools are favoured for Texas residents.

So on the tmdsas, is Intro to probability and Statistics counted as "other science" OR "calculus and statistics" ?

I believe it would be counted as "calculus and statistics." You can refer to the TMDSAS help section for clarification.

Also, this may or may not be helpful but I thought I would go ahead and post it. During my interview at San Antonio on Monday, my interviewer referenced my LOR from my dentist intended for Baylor. It caught me a little off guard haha. So, it appears Houston and San Antonio can also view the dentist LOR. I am saying this because it might or might not be helpful (depending on your view or situation) if you want the LOR to be aligned toward Baylor or toward his/her opinion of you as a future dentist in general. My orthodontist, a Baylor grad, wrote my letter and I know he specifically wrote the letter to help my chances at Baylor. My interviewer joked about him really wanting me to go to Baylor, which I had to counter with my ties to San Antonio and my desire to go there as well. Just saying...

Also, like txgangsta, my interviews at SA were very relaxed and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. They have a great school, and the family atmosphere students and profs talk about is the real deal.
