Hey yall,

I just called the texas schools to make sure they have my DAT scores and everything is complete, because Penn didnt have them for some reason. Anyway, the Baylor lady was like "well youre a psychology major, and that kinda puts you behind the biology majors because they have taken a lot more classes!!!" ouch.. guess that means im not getting an interview.. and btw.. i have taken extra bio courses... cell, physio, animal behavior, and im in micro and biochem this semester... im starting to lose hope.. i dont think my home state schools like me. :-(
And the lady at san antonio acted like they were already scheduling interviews through December.. maybe I misunderstood her? Because some of you on here sounded like they were just scheduling them a little at a time...

The upside of submitting 'late'.... Fast processing.

Woooooo.. Finally. I haven't had my letters of rec sent out (will do it next week... I don't feel like driving to school only to find out the people I need to talk to aren't there), so I'm wondering if any of the 3 schools will consider my app without the LORs.

with those crazy scores, yes it is very possible!

ECs include many hours of shadowing, volunteering at the hospital, mentoring/tutoring elementary kids, leadership positions in a fraternity, pre-dental society membership, future undergraduate lab assistant for bio lab, etc.

My cousin's friend is going to to UCLA Dental school. She said that she was asked during the interview why she volunteer at hospital, did she prefer to become a doctor, does she apply for dental and medical schools at the same time,... I hope they will not ask you that question.

doesnt it offend u to c ppl get rejected from med school and then apply to d-school? its like they think this is the easy way out or somethin. what a joke

Hey guys I'm in a bind a here and I don't know what to do. Ok so I retook my DATs in June after first taking them last year in Feb. I did not choose to send the scores while enrolling for the test. I made decent scores on the retake, so I sent them out a day later. Now I just read a post the if you chose previous date to send out the scores during the process, the new scores would not be sent out. But the thing is TMDSAS has my new scores along with my old ones. Should I assume out of state schools have them to? I called and got nothing but voicemails. I lady I talked to with the ADA was VERY rude and told me only the schools I had chosen during the enrollment process would get the new scores and those added before the scores were completely processed would not. But I choose all of my schools after taking the test, choose previous test date, and magically TMDSAS has my new scores. Again, should I assume out of state schools got the new scores as well? Thanks guys.

I figure those who can't make it to med school probably can't make it to dental school either... and then they switch to business hahaha.

how long does it take for TMDSAS to post DAT scores after the DAT date?

How the hell do I check the status of my app?
TMDSAS doesn't say "processing" or anything

In other words how do I know if my app is processing or not doing anything

i got an invite from san antonio.. didn't expect anything yet so quickly..
TMDSAS processed my app Aug 13.. had everything complete except 1 LOR which was received by TMDSAS on Aug 18..
the letter on the invite is dated August 20th..
do you think TMDSAS sent out the LOR that quickly or did SA invite me without the LOR
hope to hear from baylor and houston as soon :luck:

Thats good - they must like you! Congrats!

i got confirmation letters that my app was received from both Baylor and SA last week.
i see people have gotten email confirmations from Houston but i still haven't.
anyone hear from SA and Baylor, but not Houston yet??
are they that slow? or did it goto my junk mail and i deleted it 😱

I got an invite from san antonio today!! FINALLY!!!!😍

Yeah, thats a good point. I had mine on auto delete last year for a couple months and changed it to save for 30 days. Yahoo did put my Houston e-mail in spam.

Took the DAT on July 19th and still no update on TMDSAS. Do I need to do something else? The schools were requested on my ADA DAT application.

I was shadowing yesterday and was talking to a dentist at the clinic who graduated from baylor 2 years ago. For those who really want to go there, heres what she had to say. She told me that they use a mathematical model in which ur dat aa, both gpa's, and scoring based off of ur interview to offer acceptance (unlv has a very similar one). She also told me all texas schools (inc SA of course) use a similar model and that basically everyone who applies to baylor gets an interview. Another thing she mentioned is that baylor ppl dont really care bout ur scores on individual dat sections, they're more concerned with the aa.

Please dont post back stating how wrong u think i am bc i am just repeatin what i was told in case someone was wonderin.

If you really want to be nice to the dentist you shadowed you should buy her the 2009 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools. You are going to be hard pressed to find a ds that interviews all applicants, unless you misunderstood and she said that all "accepted" students were interviewed. In any case, for the class entering 2007 for in-state, there were 750 applicants of which 275 were interviewed and 84 were accepted. For out-of-state there were 650 applicants of which 20 were interviewed and 12 were accepted.

the dentist was simply implyin that there were a large number of interviews granted. her words were "practically everyone who applies gets an interview"
like i said tho ppl....just repeatin what i heard to help someone out

There is no way Baylor only accepted 96 students. D4 students at Baylor told me yesterday their newest class had 96 students. Similar to all schools, Baylor would need to send out more acceptances than spaces to fill their class. When I was at Houston, I believe the Dean mentioned the acceptance rate was more like 1 out of every 2 interviewees. He called it musical chairs. You know the drill. Likewise, the D4s at Baylor mentioned the school is increasing their class size from 96 to 115. So congratulations everyone- our chances just improved! 😀

True they send out more than 96 acceptances -- but I have heard that Baylor fills up most of their class with December 1st acceptances -- not all, but very many -- at least that is what it was 2 years ago.

I was just trying to make a point. But, like Danny, I believe you are correct. I remember the Dean at Houston mentioning Baylor filling up most of their class before January.

i took my DAT retake last week and applied a long time ago (in May/early June). Anyone know how long it'll take for TMDSAS to recieve it and submit it to the schools?

Oh yeah.. The messed up thing is that my dad came into the room and woke me up screaming 'YOU GOT ACCEPTED INTO SAN ANTONIO, BOY!'

Got me all excited and shiet... I said WHAT?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!? I DIDN'T EVEN INTERVIEW THERE YET.. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN!? FRIGGIN NO WAY!!!

Dad says 'Oh.. yeah.. That's what I meant.. You got an interview.... Intervew/accepted.. Same thing.'

Anyways, moral of the story is if it's too good to be true, it's probably not.

With any language, speaking is the easy part; it is the reading and writing that may be problematic.

Actually, Baylor has been claiming not to have accepted a single applicant from a wait list in the last few years. While this is an exaggeration, the number of enrollees from the wait list, unlike Houston, has been in the single digits. The number of students in DSI varies and is dependent on the number of students that go on the 5-year program. In general, ds send out invitations only in numbers required to fill the available slots, and unlike American and other Airlines, they do not overbook. They are then given a limited amount of time to accept or decline the offer. Hence rolling admissions.

I think we all know about rolling admissions.

pretty sure he/she/it was just using slang and text/IM language. in which case, maybe the problem is some people don't know how to write/read that particular form of communication.
