2009 wait-list blues thread

I'm on the wait list at one of my top schools. I've been in contact with my POI over the past several weeks and I got an e-mail from him yesterday saying that he wants to call me this week to talk about my chances for admission. I didn't interview at this school, so I'm wondering if this might be a kind of mini phone interview. Should I prepare like I would for a phone interview?

Has anyone else been in this situation? I don't really know what to think or expect right now!

Prepare as best as you can for a full-on phone interview...

It can't hurt. Not preparing can.
 
I know that some people were interested in finding some information out about Albany. I had emailed my 2 POI's and got a response from both already. Anyone who is interested in the response can PM me.
 
This might not be the case everywhere, but I was admitted to a Master's of Counseling program and told that I must accept by April 15th to keep my spot.
 
Looks like I'm wait listed at my top choice...Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences....it hurts for me to even type that :scared:
 
I was just notified today that they wait-listed me at St. John's for the Ph.D. Clinical program... I forfeited right away because I've already accepted somewhere else. So somebody can move on up the ladder! 😉

So you know how you email programs to ask about your chances if you have an offer at a grad program? Does the same apply for RA jobs that you have offers for?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Wow that is so awesome! I found out I'm the next in line at my school, so if someone declines, I may be in as well!
 
🙁 I just found out the other girl at my top choice accepted the offer, so I'm out of the running officially for that school.

I'm really down in the dumps, because at this point its looking like I am going to have to turn down the offers I did get and do this all over again next year. My significant other and I applied to ph.d. programs in 5 different cities. He got into programs in 4 of the 5. I got into 2 programs in the 5th city. His offers are 10 times better than mine.

This is so frustrating...I did everything right, got SEVEN in person interviews, two phone interviews...

at 2 different schools the POIs said they did want me but their funding didnt work out so they couldnt take me.

at 3 others they literally said during the interviews that they thought I was perfect and a great fit, only to pick another applicant over me anyway (I haven't gotten officially rejected at 2, but i know others got offers ages ago)

1 interview I bombed, another i dont know what the heck happened

and then there are the 2 i got into that i'm probably going to have to turn down...


I dont know if this is just awful luck or I'm just a really terrible interviewer or what...

I'm off to repost this to the DCT who gives people advice and to go wallow in a pint of ice cream...🙁🙁🙁
 
I did it! :soexcited:They like me! Just got accepted into the Counseling Psychology program at OSU in Still water, OK! I love the program!!!!😀

I'm so sorry, kapinkkidowski. I got so mad when others told me that there was a plan for me, but eventually they were shown to be right, and I believe the same is true for you!

Hey I just wanted to let people know that I am declining offers from Xavier and Spalding so hopefully someone will get an offer off the waitlist soon 🙂....good luck everyone

I think I remember you from last year. So glad you got in. I'm the top alternate at the only school I applied to and waiting for one of 5 to turn down an offer. Sounds like good odds, right?

I mean, sure I'm in now, but I'd be willing to help out the rest of you. And I'm told that I have a very nice singing voice 😀
 
Rejected from all programs except Syracuse - where I'm waitlisted. Haven't heard from them since finding out that I was on the waitlist on March 3rd.

Anybody accepting/rejecting Syracuse? PM me if you want.
 
I was offered admission to my top choice after 24 days on the waitlist. I'll be going to UAlbany's counseling psych program in the fall. So, so happy. 🙂

Just checked my application status... it FINALLY says "Under departmental review"

I've been checking it about once a week and this is the first time it's said that. Nice of them to update the website so frequently... 👎
 
just got the letter saying i'm waitlisted for the Wright Institute, which was/is my only choice. . .anyone get accepted? decided to go elsewhere? have any feel for the schedule to inform wait listed folks? i've contacted Wright's admissions but have yet to hear back. . .
 
So I'm on the wait list for Temple and I just got an email from the Director of Admissions (after I emailed him). He told me that I was still in the running for a spot and that he was going to try and call me tonight to talk about it. What do you guys think that means?! I'm going crazy! 😕

I can only hope that its good news:xf:

Any thoughts?

Another good ending for a wait-lister over this way. I got into University of Maine after being the first alternate for my POI. I just accepted the offer. Sooo excited!

April 15 = taxes... 😛

Why is April 1st special though? (Or are you just saying that you hope things move along?)

April 1st is the APA deadline for programs to give out acceptances. Now individuals who may be holding onto an offer with the hope of hearing from another program will have to start making decisions based on the offers they currently hold. This could free up some wait listed spots.
 
Thanks for clarifying that for me, CDUB. I forgot that tomorrow is April Fools Day, though. I think a fake offer would probably be the worst April Fools joke ever!

I think a fake offer at this point could cause a potential fight... :laugh:

I just heard back from my POI at Virginia Tech and he said that they were very conservative because of funding, but apparently they were too conservative and there may be an opening and I'm still in the mix even though I wasn't interviewed and he would get back to me early next week
.
