2009 wait-list blues thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am waitlisted at my top choice... and honestly my only option at this point.

Just when I had FINALLY accepted the fact that I'd be doing this process again next year... I get a follow-up interview (I believe to possibly work under someone that I didn't originally interview with). My brain has now kicked into "Oh please, oh please, oh please" mode again.

I was just told that I'll find out my fate today... please send good vibes my way... I need all the help I can get at this point! :xf:

I wish you the best of luck...I was just accepted to UIC last night, after originally being an alternate! Sending good vibes!

...Just received today the undesirable news that I've been waitlisted for my first choice 🙁. Is there anything that I can say in my reply to the faculty who notified me of my status that would work in my favor for getting off the waitlist? The notice says the usual about trying to take students who would best complement the composition of the class, etc.

At the time I applied, I did not seek a letter of recommendation from the PI of the research institute where I currently intern--a big name in his field, since I had just begun working for him at the time. He has now known me for a few more months and he would like me to author a paper analyzing the diagnostic utility for one of the tests he has developed; I'm currently working on submitting the abstract for the opportunity to present a poster based on it at the National Academy of Neuropsychology's annual conference this fall, which I'm told this would have a high chance of being selected for. I hadn't begun this new project at the time I was applying and so there is no mention of it in my application.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this would be appropriate to mention in a reply message to the faculty member--whom I interviewed with? And/or do you think an additional letter from the PI supporting my acceptance would be acceptable or seem a little desperate/pushy? I would have definitely liked to have had a letter of rec from him back in the fall but the timing just wasn't right.

Thanks for any feedback on this matter!

Honestly, I don't think there's anything you can do at this point other than hope the person doesn't take the offer. It's not a matter of impressing them anymore.

I feel like I am a dam* honorary member of the waitlist... and by waitlist I mean I am still waiting! April 1st has pretty much come and gone and still no word on my school (funding issues) I thought it would be over by today. They could have at least said something like "if we GET funding you're our first choice or you're out of the running" I'd like to know one way or the other.. but no... still (to quote Jack Johnson) sitting, waiting, wishing. I am about ready to throw this computer out the window due to the amount of times I have obsessively checked my email and this board in the last .. well.. several months. A person can go CRAZY doing this! 😡😱🙁

Jack Johnson or John Mayer? j/k

It's getting to be that time. Being waitlisted will get more and more excruciating over the next two weeks. Just try and relax. At this point there is nothing you can really do. I would think that the majority of people are holding on to offers while they await other offers, which may take right up until the 15th. I wouldn't expect to hear anything anytime soon.

I know how stressful the waitlist can be. My favorite this year was one program that shall remain nameless. I hadn't heard back, so I wrote them. They sent me back a response apologizing and stating that they sent out updates a few weeks ago and must not have included my name on the list. What they don't know is that I have talked to 4 other people from the interview, and when they inquired they received the exact same response, verbatim...I don't understand the need to BS us. I just wanted to know where was at on the waitlist, and I planned on withdrawing my candidacy either way.

[Oh crap, did i say john mayer? Damnit. Apologies. This stress is seriously getting to me. And gosh, I just don't know why they can't be straight forward. Even if they don't know- just tell me! I'm just waiting here for your damn answer haha.

oh also, Im not even on the waitlist yet. They haven't even told me! No "oh you're second alternate" or "oh you're on the waitlist" nothing. nada. zero.

im pretty sure my waitlist chances are about dead....
I had 4 interviews....one I had to cancel in order to go to another one. When I went to that one, I found out they were only taking 2 out of 17 of us....on their website they had stated they take 8-10. Unfortunately, they had failed to mention on their website that they only take 2 bachelor's level applicants every year, the rest of the spots were reserved for master's level applicants. Had I known that, I would have applied to at least one other school and would not have canceled my other interview in order to go there that day.

My first interview I thought went wonderfully. One of my POI's even said that I was the type of candidate they look for. I didn't hear back from them when I knew offers went out, so I contaced the DCT. She stated that I was no longer under consideration, not even off of the waitlist. I have no clue as to what happened--to not even be considered as an alternate.

The other interview I attended went pretty well. They made me alternate #3 (they only make 3 offers). Unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 have already accepted. I am now alternate #2, but the person ahead of me and the person with the offer would have to decline. Not likely....

there's always next year...🙄

Keep your hope up...I just got accepted to Temple University off the wait list tonight!

I am wait-listed at Xavier. Since it's fairly late in the game, I'm thinking I am not quite up to standards to get in to their program. I guess I'll find out in the next couple of weeks!

I was also accepted to Temple off the waitlist two weeks ago. And I just released another offer this afternoon and hope hope hope that benefits someone on this thread!!!

Best of luck, guys. Only 13 days left until people have to accept or decline offers.

Easy for you to say, you already were accepted to your top program! 😛 I'm kidding, thanks for the luck. I'm definitely going to need it.

Anyone here going to school psych psyd at Rutgers.. I'm on the waitlist.. I recently inquired about my status and got this response from prog. director:

"You are at the top part of the list. I hope I will be seeing you here."

That was 2 weeks ago.. Would it be a smart idea to inquire about my status again?

I don't think it would hurt to give them a call next week for an update. Good luck.

Hey guys,
I'm new here. I actually just found out about these forums as I was looking for more info about what my chances are of getting in being waitlisted..so here i am.
I've been reading your posts in the past few weeks and it's great to hear that soo many of you guys got in!! CONGRATS to all of you.😀

My situation I guess is not that bad, but i'm still pretty bummed. I got into Loma Linda and Alliant for my Psyd program and am waitlisted at pepperdine. I am actually getting my ma at Pepperdine (the reason being to get into their psyd program), so at this point I'm just hoping and waiting..and updating them...
Any thoughts, which program is better though? I'm thinking loma linda over Alliant..😕

Now that April 1st has come and gone, is there any way of knowing when people will most likely begin to accept/decline offers, or are we really stuck waiting until the 15th? I don't know if I can handle the stress for that long... ugh. *Big hugs* for everyone else freaking out!

Just released offers from UCF Clinical Ph.D. and Yeshiva Clinical Psy.D. Hope this helps some of you!!!

i need an update from sassafrass! i too have a follow up interview next week for the Wright Institute and am hella nervous! the 15th is TOO damn far away.:scared:

After a lot of thought & consideration, I just released my spot from University of Denver's PsyD clinical psych program (that was hard too!). Best of luck to those of you on the waitlist, I hope you hear something soon! 🙂

I had a great interview with my top choice school. I was told that I would know if I was accepted by the end of March. So April 2nd after receiving no word from the school I called up. Spoke to the director of the program, he remembered me from both the interview day and the graduate conference a few weeks before interview day. He asked if I was still interested, and I said I was. He then told me that I was "very high on their list" and that I needed to wait a little longer.

So my question is: are they just stringing me along, or is there a good chance I'll get in? Thanks for your thoughts.

Not sure, but it sounds to me that you truly are still in the running, but that one or more people need to decline before they;ll make you an offer. I'd try to hang in there, although I know it's tough. I hope it works out!:luck:

As someone who was wait listed multiple times, and got in the second time around on April 12th, I say wait it out. You will know soon enough.

Mark

Hey everyone. I declined Nova's and Widener's offers this morning so hopefully that helps people out a bit.

Good luck.

Peace.😎

released my offer from suffolk (clinical psych phd). good luck to you!

I was on the wait-list for my top choice school. Just got word today that I was accepted !
Where there is a will there is a way. Good luck to all those still waiting

Say you hear from a program on April 15. How long do you have to decide to accept or not? Do you have until the end of that day or is there some grace period?

Sassafrass, I just saw your message. I'm pulling for you too. Keep us updated!

Just found out I am next in line for the offer to my top choice/only option for clinical PhD!!! But, I'm trying not to get my hopes up because the odds are against me... I also found out today I am waitlisted at my top choice for masters program...not having a good day...

Don't give up hope yet--you never know. Best of luck!

Do you guys find you are waitlisted at many schools? I'm wondering if these schools have large 'hold tanks'

Does anyone know if the APA April 15th deadline applies for schools with rolling admission?

Has anyone heard back from the waitlist at Virginia Consortium? I've heard from the admissions director that they have only heard back from one candidate accepting their offer, out of 6. Thanks for any updates!

I was recently contacted by my POI at the school where I was waitlisted. After a phone call, I was invited to come up to meet him, other faculty, and grad. students, and they'll make a decision then.

*Fingers crossed!*

i met with the dean and was told after i'd be moved 'to the top of the waitlist'. i go from feeling kinda confident from that to wondering if it might just be a line they give anyone talking to them from the waitlist. arrrgh!

if the ups and downs of this process make me bipolar, i shall be very cross.

If in your last response to a status update, your POI tells you that s/he will update you if anything changes, would it be obnoxious to send another email? It's been almost a month, but I realize that we've got 6 days until April 15th. Maybe one should just be patient?

Do the schools that have waitlisted you notify you on 4/15 to let you know if you have been rejected so you can make decisions?

Hi everyone,
I'm one of the waitlisted madmen too - waiting to see if I get in on the 15th 🙂 It's really kind of cruel of universities to do this to us, no? Good luck to everyone else waiting - I hope you get in (and me too!)

I'm still thinking of you guys! I remember my own time on the waitlist. Not fun. And to stick it out this long... you have my serious admiration.

I hope you all hear back right away on (or before) the 15th, and I hope it's good news!

I finally have something good to post...just received an offer from St. Louis University. No more waitlist! I received the final spot in the program...talk about getting down to the wire!
