Can anyone PM me Dr. Lisio's email address? I forgot to pick up the sheet with all the email addresses. 🙁

Unless there's a sheet that I've never seen before, the email address sheet on the coffee table of the suite was a list of the emails of the students that gave you tours, not of the interviewers. Just send a letter to the admissions office, they will get it to him.

I sent my (handwritten) thank you note to my interviewer's office address (found it online) and a separate thank you for the dean to the admissions office. Got a very nice reply from the dean 2 wks. later. Such a nice man.

hahaha, so i had a dream last night i got an acceptance letter from Columbia. in my dream, i knew it wasn't feb/march yet, so the FIRST thing i do was go to SDN to check if others were getting acceptances too. and they were. but then i think, "this is too good to be true...i must be dreaming!"

and bam, i wake up. what is my life. 😛

Merry Christmas Eve, all!

Around 100 were interviewed last year for 10 spots. I don't think the 2x rule applies in this situation. I'm fairly certain they made less than 20 offers.

I had my interview for the Bassett Program early December and they said that they are interviewing 60 applicants this year. I loved the people at Bassett--everyone was amazingly friendly and the interviewers cared genuinely about how you would enjoy living in a small "village." And what a great program they have! About 8 of us were interviewing that day and we all fell in love with the program.

Hi mmmcdowe,

What is the grading system at Columbia?

Thanks!

Any chance you know how many spots are left?

Does anyone know when the decisions are supposed to come out? Is it March or February?

Hi mmmcdowe,

What is the grading system at Columbia?

Thanks!

Preclinicals are pass fail and have no internal rankings. Clinicals are Honors High Pass Pass Fail. There is no ranking in the clinicals either beyond AOA status. AOA status uses a combination of clinical grades (only clinical) and your overall resume.

If I have an interview at 2 pm, would it be ok to book my flight out of LGA around 7 p.m.? Around what time does the interview day end, and about how long does it take to get to LGA from Columbia with traffic?

Thanks!

That should be fine. If you take mass transit it should take no more than two hours, unless traffic is extra bad.

Yeah, that should be fine.

The longest interview I've ever heard of was 90 minutes.

Columbia --> LGA takes 20 minutes by cab in light traffic, so maybe plan for 45 for a worst-case scenario, or I'd plan for 2 hours if you take the A to 125th and then the M60 bus straight to LGA.

I usually take the subway/bus combo because I don't really mind the extra time, but the cab won't be more than $30 unless you're leaving at rush hour.

Does anyone know when the last invites are sent? I've been with Columbia for a high school program, undergrad, and am now working here, but haven't heard a peep from P&S since August. 🙁
Maybe I should send them a letter of intent on one of the P&S letterheads I have at work here, haha. Think they'd get the hint?

Anyone interviewing on Tuesday? I'm super scared and super excited at the same time lol

Hey everyone!
Just letting you know that I'm a first year here at P&S and am here to answer any questions you have. I know there are many other great resources giving feedback on here, but feel free to contact me if you have specific questions! 😀

Does anyone know the mailing address to send an update letter via snail mail?

Just out of curiosity, approximately how many people are at any given interview day?

It ranges from four to up to about 20 depending on the part of the cycle. They try to keep it small but this is balanced by Columbia's belief in interviewing as many folks as possible.

There were 3 including me on my day. I think it was when that hurricane came up the east coast, so air travel got messed up and a lot of people cancelled.

As far as I know yes.

I've heard second hand that on about the 15th of each month, these invites are decided on and released. Is there any merit to this statement or is it a load of crap lol

soo, i sent an in the area email to cornell in november and nothing came out of it then. I am going to be in NY again in feb. Do you guys think i should send them an in the area email again or would it look tacky in some way??

Current students, what are those lunches called where you talk to advisory deans and tell them problems with classes, etc.? Advisory Dean Lunches?

Never heard of that personally but I've never asked. It could be true.

Yep, advisory dean lunches. We also have meetings with the president of the medical center and the top brass of the medical school every couple months or so, which is open to all students.

You mean Columbia? Go for it.

Yep, write updates and hope for the best. You certainly wouldn't be the first interviewed or accepted with those stats.

Hi all,

Does anybody know how to get a list of the members of Columbia's Admissions Committee?

Thanks.

Again, probably confidential. What could you use this list for that would be fair to other applicants?
