But all acceptances were sent out last monday right? And they should've arrived within 2-7 days? So if we have nothing still we can assume rejection???

No, there still could be waitlists going out.

By now I'm sure the waitlists have all been sent out. Hopefully in the next couple days they will have all arrived.

And no, before anyone asks the order that your waitlist letter went out should not be analyzed.

I called and they said everything was mailed out by last Thursday afternoon.

chances of getting something other than a rejection at this point? 🙁 any opinions

I think the odds of waitlist and rejection are identical. That's my feeling from all these posts by current students.

(I should say, according to the time of arrival of your letter, I think the odds are identical. Clearly the odds according to applications aren't identical.)

Oops, yep, this is what I more or less meant.

hmm, wouldn't you think Columbia adcoms ghost this thread? What would they think of Cole for scanning his letter and sharing it, probably not thrilled? But if you aren't taking the spot who cares i guess.

Why would you not accept the waitlist spot? If they offer you acceptance later, which sounds like they most certainly will, than you may decline if you wish. I would jump on it.

not everyone can afford, logistically, psychologically, or whatever-ly, being strung along. besides, it's entirely dependent on the circumstances. if you have a full scholarship to a school you like better for instance, there would really be no point.

he already paid the app fee, and had the interview. No additional costs, just filling out a form. Okay he may have a scholarship else where at a lower ranked school, but he still has a shot at an acceptance here. Decide later, that way there are no what ifs.

i think it's very telling that this is the first thought you go to

i also wonder if you even read my post

Note he said not everyone can afford logistically, psychologically, etc... not financially.

I think if you have an acceptance somewhere you really like, it makes sense you dont want to hang on to a waitlist spot that might not ever become anything... esp if you're not crazy about it. Maybe he wants to leave the spot for someone else who realllyyyyy wants it. or maybe he just isn't crazy about the uncertainty.

best of luck :luck:

gaahhhh, empty mailbox again... the people at my campus mail center are starting to think I'm psychotic. I was waitlisted for the Bassett Program last Thursday, is it possible to be waitlisted at Bassett and rejected from P&S? And now thanks to reading this forum, I'm hoping to receive a "personalized" waitlist letter (even though I didn't interview with Dr. Nicholas). UGHHH.

You would think a medical school would be more considerate of their applicants' mental well being.

you know Columbia students will have a much easier time getting into a top residency than somewhere else. So whats more important, financial security now, or securing your first choice residency?

Not my decision, wish i was in his circumstances. Best of luck

Fingers crossed that someone...ANYONE... gets an acceptance today. Still no mail here. KEEP THE HOPE ALIVE PEOPLE!

All of these things are true.

Hope some of you get the good news. Columbia is great and Dean Nicholas is a baller!

Can you guys move this spat to the land of the PM? I'm subscribed to this thread so I can see worthwhile stuff.

so what i'm saying has no merit? Why do people turn down full ride scholarships to go to John Hopkins? The experience? pleaseeeeee

Because they probably need their ego stroked and are imagining some amazing experience because it's THE Johns Hopkins school of medicine. Obviously some people think the school is a great for them, and that's awesome. However I have a sneaking suspicion that's not the case for some if not many people at the top 5 institutions.

That said, this isn't the place for this discussion. Deuces!

this is true, i will say no more on the subject. the constant thread bump can't be good for people's emotions

I doubt that they care. People have been posting transcripts of letters from columbia for years. As far as I know, the adcom doesn't read anything but the interview feedback. There isn't any action that they can take anyways even if they were horribly offended, cole is withdrawing. People who are content with their other options for whatever reason (finances, fit, prestige, whatever) have nothing to gain from staying on waitlist. When I got into columbia I withdrew from any school that I wouldnt have gone to even if I got a full scholarship. For me, that included a few top ten waitlists that had not caught my fancy to the same extent as columbia.

UES, I'm not sure what the rationale would be for staying on a waitlist at a school you dont plan on pursuing, and almost certainly wouldn't attend even if you did get in. Just to see what other acceptances you can put on your trophy wall? I think withdrawing if you aren't all that interested is a considerate move, as he won't be wasting anyone's time, and any acceptance he might have received can just go straight to the person behind him "in line". I'm sure you've read his mdapp. It seems he wasn't that enthused with Columbia, and that there are plenty of schools he liked better, even ones where he's already been accepted (with lots of $$, no less).

Also-- being concerned about residency options coming out of UChicago instead of Columbia?...seriously?

Still nothing in the mail. (Midwest) :-/

You're right, if I had gotten into Chicago, Vanderbilt or Michigan, getting into a good residency is DEFINITELY at the top my list of worries right now. 🙄

still nothing here either. upstate ny. 🙁

ditto on the no mail from boston. Has anyone tried calling the admissions office, or did they specify not to call asking for decisions?

when i spoke to the adm. office (who, incidentally, have been VERY nice on every occasion despite some people's experiences to the contrary) i was told by today or tuesday the decision should have arrived. if it's not here by tomorrow afternoon i might give them a call, but that's also because i've already in this season had two decision letters returned to sender... 😡

If people from New York still haven't received their decisions, it would seem that there's no way that everyone still waiting to hear will get their decisions by tomorrow.

I'm sad.

Actually, I'm getting Joan Crawford-level crazy. "No... snail... mail... decisions... EVER!" (See, Columbia-- film references! I'm artsy. Accept me, plz. Kthxbye.)

haha omg A+.

I've now gotten past the obsessed-with-checking-the-mail phase, now I'm just kind of amused by this whole wait

WAIT. Is this because you didn't get mail in Brooklyn??? If I get home (Manhattan) and there's nothing in the mail, I might actually have a psychotic break.

Well, I'm still at work so I don't know if I got anything today. So it was kind of about me not getting anything yet, but more directly about a ton of other people still not getting anything.

Yea, I'm psychologically worn out. I think I'm going to have mailbox PTSD after this. I'll never be able to open a mailbox the same way again :scared:

(Unless I have a miracle delayed acceptance! Then I'll always expect something great in mailboxes.)

For those who got waitlisted or rejected, how did you feel about your interviews?

So is it pretty much agreed that we can't expect an acceptance?

My interview did not go well. My interviewer was strangely disinterested (hadn't read my file), spent most of the time talking about his own research, and basically pushed me out of his office after 20 minutes because he was "worried I would miss the tour." Result: rejected.

This.

anyone from the midwest hear back? if not i'm still holding my breath D:

I got my rejection letter on either Friday or Saturday (Minneapolis suburb)

No mail, and I live like 2 miles from Columbia. Starting to get really aggravated.. Ugh..

Finally got home in the Mid-Atlantic and no mail here, either. I do not understand how mail sent out last Thursday could be taking this long to get to me, much less to people in New York City.

If they were wedded to sending notices by mail, couldn't they have at least sent them out on the same day? Last year's class had a 12-day window wherein people received decisions. It looks like we're on-track for at least seven or eight days...

I like Columbia, but their admissions process has been exhausting and a huge turn-off for the school. From asking us to mail in passport photos to mailing out these decisions, it is simply not applicant-friendly. If I get in, you can bet I have some suggestions for the admissions office.

(Glad to hear that they're nice on the phone at least!)
