For interview day, is it looked down upon to bail before the optional dinner? Just trying to save money here and Omaha doesn't have any flights out after 7:30pm.

it is 100% fine to miss the dinner- many interviewees don't stay, and some even leave before the tour at the end, although i would suggest staying for that- good luck!

Interviewing this Saturday. Any recent interviewees have any experiences to share?

VERY laid back and conversational. Nothing to stress about. Just be yourself and talk about why Creighton, and why you want to go into medicine.

Interview invite today! So excited, especially considering my not so good MCAT score. I guess my great GPA and clinical/laboratory research experience helped! Seems like a really great school! :xf:

Interview invite today!!!!
Secondary Submitted 8/6

Yay! Interview Invite!!

Now to decided which date.....

Yeah me too! Really thought I'd been passed over because I'd been complete here for a while. I guess no news is good news sometimes.

Yea me too! I was complete a while ago and thought I was passed over, then today I got a pleasant, unexpected surprise!

I picked an Oct. 1st interview (Sept. 24 was available but it would have meant a lot of stressful rescheduling for me).

Has anyone stayed in the Marriott Courtyard in the Old Market Area? This NYC girl will take any advice she can get about visiting Creighton/Omaha!

And any other 10/1-10/2 interviewees among us??

I'm sure I got an interview too, but I think they just forgot to send me the email....

(Congratulations on the interviews, everyone, and good luck! I would love to get an interview here!)

Same here, I submitted back in July, so I don't think I'll be called up but one can hope.

I'm staying at the Marriott Courtyard right now for my interview tomorrow haha. I recommend it...there's a shuttle to the airport and Creighton.

Congrats on the invite! The Marriott is a good hotel (I mean, it's a standard hotel chain. You pretty much know what to expect.) It is in a fantastic area. The Old Market is right there... if you walk a couple blocks south along 10th Street, and then go west (away from the river) on Farnam, Harney, Howard, or Jackson, you will be surrounded by great food, some cool shops, and a good outdoor street music scene. Don't go exploring too far north of your hotel; you start getting into some rougher neighborhoods (I mean, you're from NYC, so I'm sure you'll be fine 🙂). The Old Market area will have plenty for you to do, though.

Don't give up hope yet! I submitted in July also and pretty much thought I was getting a silent rejection, but nope I got an interview invite today... wait a little longer before giving up! 🙂

Yeah, don't give up on this school. I was complete early July also but didn't get an invite until yesterday, making me think they probably give some precedent to early applicants :luck:

Interview invite yesterday (9/10)! Complete on 8/27.

Everyone who interviewed with me today all thought their interview went well. They make a point to put you at ease. Very friendly campus, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience as a whole.

Completed on 8/13....and no word....looks like I wont be interviewing at Creighton.....🙁

anyone interviewing on October 30th? I was out of town this weekend and just checked my email today and it seems that is the earliest available now. I hope that doesn't hurt my chances too much.

I'll be there 👍; it was the earliest I could do it as well.

For those of you who received an interview at Creighton, have you heard back from other schools yet?

Yes. I've been small pooled at one and have been invited for four other interview invites. Hope that helps! Good luck 🙂

Edit: I forgot to mention I got put on hold for re-review at GWU too. Boo for pseudo rejections.

Thanks so much for your detailed response ssahjm! I'm really excited by the possibility of moving to the Midwest. (Med school is intense enough, I wouldn't mind giving up the extracurricular intensity of NYC for a few years... or maybe the rest of my career haha.)

And FlankerDoc... yes, I did get another invite today (for an Oct. 5th interview at a NYC school) but haven't heard from most schools yet.

As always, GOOD LUCK to all! 🙂

I've been complete since 7/14 and haven't heard a word from Creighton since then (2 months). Some of you guys said you'd been complete for a while and then got interviews-- probably not for this long, right? I'm just wondering if I should figure that they'll eventually reject me or if I have any hope? Anyone else in my shoes?

apoptoaster, According to your stats, you seem to be pretty qualified. I have heard that Creighton puts a lot of emphasis on community service and service to the under-served. Are you lacking experience with diverse individuals?

Actually it was that long for me; I was complete 7/16. So don't give up hope for an interview spot 👍

I was complete on 7/23 and haven't heard anything. I've pretty much written off Creighton as a possibility at this point.

Complete email 8/11. Called about a week ago and they said my app hadn't been reviewed yet.

I'm also interviewing on October 1st! I'm really excited and nervous! I'm staying with a medical student, though. I guess I'll see you there!

Hey everyone!

For those of you who interviewed this past Saturday- you all looked fantastic 🙂

Also, I read a bunch of recent posts and I just want to clear something up- just because people who were marked complete after you have gotten interviews before you does NOT mean it is game over at Creighton- I was complete mid-late September, didn't get invited until the beginning of December, interviewed the first week of January and got a direct acceptance about six weeks later- there were TONSSS of people complete after me that interviewed before me, but I can assure you that your apps can be reviewed a bunch of times before you get the invite.....so DON'T LOSE HOPE!

Hope that info puts some anxious minds at ease- I don't come on here too often but if anyone has questions (I'm only an M1 so my knowledge is kinda limited) send me a message and I will do my best to get back to you quickly!

X

When I was there, they said if the interviewer tells you about a weakness in the application like that and you don't fix it, it's obviously not a good thing. Who knows if it would be a deal-breaker.

So can anyone comment on why every interviewee is asked about shadowing and if a person doesn't have any, would it hurt them if they didn't have time to do some and update them???

My friend interviewed this past weekend and is worried about this cuz this is their situation. Also they are doing research full time like me for the MAMS (SMP) program we are doing and volunteer one day a week. They have worked in a neurosurgeon's office though not directly observed procedures. They've also done other stuff here and there but they don't have much shadowing. Is this going to hurt them in your opinion for all you creighton med students out there??
What do you know about this?

Are the interviews opened or closed files?

Open, but I don't know to what extent. I know they have your activities list from your AMCAS application, but not sure about the other parts of your app.

The website says that interviewers have access to your total application, including AMCAS, your secondary, and your letters of recommendation. Hope that helps and good luck!

Just read about the medical center shoot out... crazy stuff. At least no one minus the gunner was seriously injured.

Creighton seems to really stress shadowing [even says so on their admissions page]. I would say it is important to get some done for your friend to try to start to make 2 hours per every two weeks towards shadowing if possible - and let the school know. I have very few official doctor shadowing experience, but I let Creighton know about all of my experiences (wasn't on my AMCAS)... I would have your friend update them about her/his work in the neurosurgeon's office and other healthcare experiences she/he has had (even if it is limited experiences)

The interviews are open file and soooooo much fun 🙂 I pretty much left in love with this school.

Hey guys! I interviewed at Creighton last week and absolutely loved it! I came in not knowing much about the school and left amazed by it. The staff and the students seemed very happy and the assistant dean, Dr. Quinn, is such a nice guy.

The interviews were very simple -- 1 medical student and 1 faculty member. The faculty members are a bit more structured. They have a sheet of paper in front of them where they 'score' you on certain aspects -- 1 to 5. At the end of the interview, your scores are added up before you go in front of the committee. He asked about my clinical experience, research experience, interest in Creighton, why I want to become a physician and how I would feel about moving so far away from my home. The medical student interview was amazing. Very laid back. We pretty much spent the time with me asking questions about the school and letting her know a bit about my experience and how I would benefit the 2015 class.

Based on the stats given for 2010, they had ~ 6,000 applications, gave ~ 600 interviews and offered almost 400 acceptances. So think of it, your chances are pretty high if you have an interview! Either way, enjoy the interview if you do have one. You'll do a lot of walking (tour of the medical center, school of medicine and CU campus) and learn so much about them and whether they are a good fit for you! Good luck everybody!

:luck:

How do they go about interviews and acceptances? Website, Email, or snail mail? I know some are still using snail mail for certain things.

Unfortunately they said they are doing snail mail this year for acceptances. Interview invites are by email
