I am from AZ and the Phoenix track is definitely a plus to this medical school to me. St. Joe's & Barrows are terrific for training because the vast patients that you see. I did a lot of shadowing at both. I also am awaiting new mcat scores, so I

hope when those get back in a week I will get an interview here. How are you liking phoenix right now?? (I hope you have access to a pool!) Also, how do you like the rotations down here? Which one are you doing?
Phoenix is less than ideal right now given my midwestern roots and dislike for walking outside and feeling as though I stepped right into an oven. With that said, things have been great
inside the hospital. I've done 1 month of pediatrics and now psychiatry here, so I can say that 1/6 of the core rotations will be really good. As for the pool, I'm unfortunately without access, so I'm essentially using local coffee shops as my heat havens!
Just curious, but how are the sleeping arrangements usually done when staying with a host? Do they usually have a couch or cot or air mattress you can use? Or do you usually sleep on the floor? Do you bring your own sheets or sleeping bag?
I'm nervous about staying with a host because I would hate to wake up on the day of my interview with my back killing me or from being too uncomfortable to sleep.
One of the stipulations for hosting is that you are able to provide either a bed to sleep on or the most ridiculously comfortable couch EVER. So, you don't have to bring anything - no pillows (unless you have a magically good luck'd one), no sleeping bags, no nothin'. Also, if you're allergic to cats or rabbits or iguanas or nameyouranimal, you can specify that so that you don't wake up on interview day looking like a tired, sneezy mess.
I should also add the number three from above that I just remembered. Every year, and I mean, EVERY single year, people start to freak out because Tuesday of their interview week rolls around and they haven't heard from their host. When I was the chair of my class admissions committee as a M2, I had the pleasure of fielding countless calls about that. So, just to prepare everyone, the list of interviewees (no names, just preferences for M/F, allergies, smoking, etc) doesn't go out until the weekend before. The hosts aren't typically solidified until Tuesday, so don't freak out unless you haven't heard by Wednesday afternoon. It's not the best system in terms of pre-med anxiety, but it has never failed us.
So yeah, good luck and stuff!
