Interview invite! I was complete 9/13. 3.63 cGPA, 3.99 sGPA, 39O, IS and female.

I was actually worried they'd reject me because they figured I wouldn't attend if I got accepted (MCAT too high... I heard they do this), but I think the fact that I'm IS and female (both things they have a preference towards) played in my favor. Woot!

I just got one too!!!!! Earliest dates are in December! By the way, I was complete on 8/26 and did NOT receive an e-mail - I just logged in after seeing Geekchick's post - thanks, Geekchick! 🙂

Also, no dates until December? Damn. It says they start the interview day at 9AM. For those that have already interviewed, when did you guys finish?

The interview invite email (that I got a couple days after the status change) said 'no later than 3 PM.' Congrats, GC!!

:luck:

Just checked mine hoping for interview....instead got re-review message. Is this it for Drexel?

What's the point of the essay? Is it to assess the applicant's writing skills or ethical decision making abilities?

I think the point of the essay is to test your common sense and make sure you can think on your toes. The personal statement is just so polished and influenced by outside sources; they want to see that you can come to a logical conclusion and present an idea effectively without help.

It's definitely not about assessing your writing skills.

We were done by 2pm, including the info session they had at the end of the day so you could ask questions about the two curricula.

Same...son of a ______. I feel like that was a rejection, there's absolutely no way they will give me an interview later in the season. Even if they do, there will be max like 5 spots left. My IS school too - decent MCAT, tremendous GPA and outstanding EC's. The MCAT Old Boys Club strikes again...

Thoughts on choosing a Saturday interview date?

It might not give you an accurate picture of daily life at the school. I was there during the week and it was BUSY. Lots of people, lots of activity. Might have been a little TOO busy for my tastes (~520 pre-clinical students take up a lot of space), and that's something I don't think I would've seen if I interviewed over the weekend.

I saw my status changed today, and I scheduled a December interview date... they sent me a confirmation email

We look forward to welcoming you to Drexel University College of Medicine on December XX, 2010. We have tried to provide you with all you need to know about our campus, getting here, and staying in Philadelphia. However, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

yet I never got the initial email with the travel info and actual invite... will this show up eventually?

Congrats to everyone who received an interview invite today!

My application was complete 8/16 yet my status still shows "no decision" 😕 I'm curious as to why this may be as I know a few people who applied after me and received decisions. I'm also not sure if this is worth contacting the admissions office about as I'm sure they already receive many phone calls from anxious applicants like me that they don't appreciate.

Any thoughts?

I'm in the same boat. I've been complete since 8/12 and it still says no decision. I'm just going to wait it out and see what happens.

I already called another school and found out that my pending decision was a rejection that they just haven't gotten around to updating online...definitely don't want that to happen again.

complete 9/14. re-evaluation status today 🙁...is re-evaluation pretty much a rejection?
has anyone been rejected already?

It takes some time. If you don't get it within a day or two PM me and I can send you think link to the info.

just also wanted to say thanks to greekchick... read the post then decided to log into the website and found out that I was able to schedule an interview

Anyone know when Drexel makes post-interview decisions?

If it's supposed to be an essay then they should give you a question which actually requires a thoughtful response. My question was not essay worthy and also elicited only a short response (maybe a little more than 3-4 sentences but not by much).

Several others had questions which I could have actually written quite a bit about but my question was not like that.

what was your question?

That's a great point. Thanks!

FWIW, I interviewed earlier on in the semester, when people were still coming to lecture. Since Drexel is great with putting up recordings of their lectures online (within 2 hours of class time, we were told), as the semester progresses, a lot of people end up only coming in for labs and opt to view the lectures from home. From this standpoint, my point might be moot. Could be a ghost town either way. 🙂

same here.

So I interviewed at Drexel a few weeks ago and when I checked my status before it said "your interview has been scheduled etc". Now I check my status and it says "your file is under review, no decision has yet been made etc.". I know I shouldn't freak out, but I will anyway :scared: Not sure what this means, if it means anything - more likely than not I'm now going through the committee to be reviewed for a final decision, but I still can't help but feel nervous ! I really loved Drexel and am super anxious to hear back :xf:

Interesting - i interviewed a few weeks ago and my status is still "interview has been scheduled"

via status update! I'm not sure how long it's been there, since I haven't checked the status site in a while. It said they would eventually send me an e-mail with the invite.

The earliest dates available were about a week's worth of dates in the first couple of weeks in December. Then a gap until the first week of January.

So excited!!

I also have "no decision" but I've only been complete for about 4-5 weeks. If drexel, temple, and jefferson all have 'silent rejections' will I have no decision or under review indefinitely or will the status change to rejection?

Not sure on the silent rejections thing, but I was under review at Temple for more than 2 months. I just heard back from Drexel after almost a month of being complete (and Drexel has a preference towards women and PA residents). It might still be awhile longer for an interview invite. GL!

I can attest from having applied to Temple twice in the past that they send snail mail rejection letters... in June. And nothing before that.

Jefferson I also have applied to in the past... I am not sure that I ever received a rejection proper from them.

Drexel does not have a preference for women as far as admissions is concerned. My class is nearly 50/50. During orientation we were given an overview of our class demographics and I think there may be 1 more male than females. And as far as the preference for PA students, it is true that there are more PA students than any other single state, but California is within the top 5 as far as states represented by students.

What is the best way to get to downtown Philadelphia from the airport? I'm trying to avoid paying for a cab because I know it will be pretty expensive. I get in at 5 on Wednesday 10/13 if that influences anything.
Furthermore, if there are no alternatives, does someone want to share a cab on Wednesday? 🙂
PM me if you're interested, s'il vous plait.

I know that you're a student, but the school's mission seems to disagree with you, and matriculants doesn't equal acceptances. But it's whatever, my worry was that I would be rejected pre-interview on the assumption that I wouldn't attend anyway because of my stats, and that's clearly not the case.

But what's with the point about Cali? It's the most populated state in the country, so the fact that its residents make up a sizeable portion of any medical school's matriculants isn't really surprising.

Take the train, baby! The airport line will take you right to CC (and I think for something like $5). You can also take the regional rail to get pretty much right down the street from the campus, too. If you didn't know, Drexel's medical campus isn't in University City with most of the school. It's in Queen Lane, but you can get to within spitting distance of the school from the rail.

http://www.septa.org/maps/system/ Airport line to a major station like 30th Street or Market East, then the Chestnut Hill West line to Queen Lane. See here.

I know the school has a rich history of supporting the education of women in medicine, but there is nothing to suggest that Drexel will choose a woman over a man with all things being equal. The 2013, 2012, and 2011 classes all have approx. equal representation of the sexes.

Point being about Cali is that if you are OOS, you still have a good shot. The preference for IS isn't that great.

Good luck!

Interview invite!! Yayy, so excited. I had the 're-revaluation' status on 9/20, which I thought meant that I was rejected. I didn't check it in a few weeks but when I did this morning it was changed an invite! I'm hoping it hasn't been there for a while. Either way, it seems as though the admissions office is closed today so can't schedule it. Booo Columbus Day!

How did the interview go for all those who have already had one? I'm excited about the possibility of a Saturday interview.

Good luck everybody!

:luck:

Have people sent in thank you letters to your interviewer? I was wondering if that is necessary and if so. do you write it by hand and send it in.

Thanks!

I handwrote a thank you note on nice stationery and sent it to my interviewer in care of the admissions office.

Anybody else interviewing tomorrow, Oct. 12th? I will be, driving up from Baltimore, MD today after work and staying at a nearby hotel overnight. Assuming the interviewing ends around 3pm, if people would be interested in staying around Philly for a few hours, we should head to a nearby bar to celebrate. First round is on me

Be careful when sending thank you notes to faculty interviewers.

While it is rare to get a note as a student interviewer, one I did get last year completely mangled my name. Like, turned it into a whole different name. Now imagine how that would have gone if my heart pulsed with evil vindictiveness and I hadn't already handed in my evaluation?

I'll be there tomorrow too, just look for the gentleman in the dark suit with the shirt and tie.

😀 My student interviewer wrote down her name for me, probably to prevent this...
