Just logged in and found this message:

"Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season for a final decision."

booooo.

I don't think that's necessarily a rejection. This is pre-interview, right? I think Drexel continues to interview through April, although their website isn't completely clear on that (says they send invites until the class is filled).

My status still says "No decision is currently available. Please continue checking this website for updates." Oh well.

I received the same message today. I hate being in limbo.

I know what you mean. I haven't heard anything from any schools in months now. Just one interview and one rejection back in November.

I've been at "Your file is currently under review by a member of the admissions committee and will be sent to committee shortly. No decision has yet been made regarding your admission status to Drexel University." for a month. I know it was during the holidays but yeah... I'm not expecting anything until at least February.

Well everyone, I my status finally changed from "No Decision" to

"Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season for a final decision."

Ha I'm guessing this is pretty much a rejection. Not really amazed, it took them quite some time just to get to this point aka the status change. Does anyone know if people w/ this status actually end up getting an interview invite? I'll probably do some homework by checking out last year's thread later on today.

It seems like a lot of people's statuses are changing today, although that message doesn't sound terribly promising. I wonder if I'm next? Let us know what you find out.

Alright guys, I just checked through last year's thread. If you've been placed on "hold" it's pretty much a rejection. One guy posted that he called in to see if sending a new LOR/update would help and the Drexel admin guy said not to. I think a med student said send an update and that it might help. It's all up to you guys on what you want to do. The "hold" is pretty much a nice way of telling us we've been rejected, but just not right now. Personally, I wouldn't keep much faith in Drexel and just focus on other things.

Hey, that's unfortunate for you and the others that got that message today. Better luck at other schools! "No decision" isn't sounding so bad anymore.

Mine said this for 1-2 weeks, then switched to the adcom having my file, then switched back to just the member having it. So, I'm not sure where my app is in the process. I'm not expecting to hear anything for a while either. Good thing we're both not counting on this school 😉

Thanks man! Maxwell when did you submit your 2ndary? Ha yeah no news is good news, but honestly not to be a debbie downer, I would not place much faith into Drexel right now unless you perhaps submitted your 2ndary later than others. But hey maybe not! We'll see.

It's ok, I know its not realistic to expect much from many schools at this point. My best chance is at my hometown state school, where I've been waitlisted. That particular school is known for accepting most of their waitlist every year, so I haven't lost all hope yet, although I am getting more worried.

All of my materials were in at Drexel by late September, although it took longer for them to acknowledge my application as being complete. I believe that makes me quite a bit later than others, with all the June/July completions around here.

I am in a similar situation with similar stats. I was complete a few weeks after you, have applied to many of the same schools, and have not heard from many of them. I have not lost hope yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good January.

I agree with Doctafuture, so hang in there! I think that you should send an update/letter of intent.

:luck:

Thanks for the encouragement... Longshanks and Doctafuture also.

I received an invite to interview at the University of Washington on Monday so that helped take off the sting. Unfortunately, it's for NEXT monday though... holy cow that's soon (exactly one week from invite date to interview!). That demonstrates the random nature of admissions though... the only two interviews I've gotten so far were at the highest and lowest ranked schools on my list (I know rankings are kind of meaningless, and I really like both schools anyway).

I'll be sending Drexel an update soonish!

Good luck everyone and happy new year!

Same! complete late august... bummer

January could be a great month!:xf:

For people that applied when we did, it's common not to hear much until now.

It just seems like everyone on SDN has tons of invites and acceptances already, which makes me feel anxious.

nice tom, geez Washington is a good school. An update/letter of interest would probably help. Yeah Maxwell since you turned in your stuff later, you have a better chance than all of us "hold" applicants.

True that! I have been complete since early October and mine still says "No decision". Guess it's better than a hold for re-review if everyone says that turns into a rejection.

Still hoping...

Best of luck at UW Tom. It'll be Drexel's loss if they decide not to accept you later. But I believe that you'll get accepted here eventually; that is if you won't have turned them down for UW.

Have an interview coming up at Drexel. What is the med school interview process like?

Best,

Hey guys - Loved this school - such a great environment!

Interviewed back on Nov 16 - does anyone know when I should expect to hear back?

I think they said 6-8 weeks but I'm not 100% sure, has anyone else who interviewed around that time heard anything?

Also how do they notify us? Is it by mail or email?

Congrats! I had the same feeling. It sounds like there's a backlog with the holidays, so it might be a little longer. Keep your eye on the online status, it'll let you know where your file is in the process (with committee member, before committee for decision, decision made, etc.) If the website says decision made, then it's supposed to be 7-10 days before snail mail gets there with the decision. Good luck!

Best,

Drexel's interview day was very relaxed with a lot of downtime. There are some info sessions and a tour in the morning, then everyone does 2 half-hour interviews: open file with a faculty member and closed file with a student. There's significant down-time during the day to give you time to write the essay. I know the essay thing sounds weird, but it was really easy. Good luck to you too! If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Have to get on the FB page for accepted students... will post here when it's assembled.

I interviewed on 11/11 and I got a status update (on the website) on 12/31. So you'll probably get one this Friday. You can check the website for your decision... the consensus is that if it reads "a decision has been made" that means you are waitlisted. "A final decision" means you are either accepted or rejected. A letter via snail mail will come a week or so after the online update.

I interviewed here about 15 weeks ago (end of September) and have yet to hear a peep. At the 10 week mark I sent a polite email to the medstat address asking about the status of my application and expressing concern that it was past the 6-8 weeks they say on the website. They never responded. About two weeks ago my status FINALLY changed to "your file is being reviewed" and there it remains.

Am I the only September interviewee who has yet to receive a decision? I thought my interview there went well, but after this unusually long wait I'm expecting a waitlist at best...

My status still reads "with a member of the committee" and it hasn't (to my knowledge) gone before the committee yet - so when your status changed, had it gone to committee or was it "a decision has been made?"

Haha I know this is kind of silly, I really should just try to relax and wait...

I rescind my comment that you will probably hear on Friday. I have no idea when you'll hear and I shouldn't have gotten your hopes up. But it COULD be as early as Friday.

The order of the status changes are "with a member of the committee" then "under review by the committee" then "a decision/final decision". People get stuck in the different statuses for varying amounts of time, and my status actually jumped backwards from committee->member at one point, then back to committee. I think it depends on how prompt your interviewers are at returning reports and/or showing up at meetings.

Take home lesson: ignore pretty much everything I or anyone else has said, don't expect to get your decision at any particular time, and continue to check the site for a decision/final decision (especially on Fridays).

Got final decision right before Christmas, interviewed on 9/22. Does anyone know if there are any rejections so far?

I hope all final decisions are acceptances ^^

For those of you waitlisted... are you sending updates, calling them to express interest now?

I don't really have anything to update... but I could call/email them saying i am interested .... is there a point in doing that? will it move me up on the list or anything? should I just wait until I have an actual update or a bit later in the cycle to when there is actual movement in the list?

I have no idea how this works so thanks for any/all feedback!

That is all.

lol thanks - I guess it IS too early to be asking about the weather a month beforehand xD. I had thought that it started snowing in the East Coast in December, with the snow lasting through April, but I guess that's an incorrect/vague generalization that I've picked up from movies. I've also just realized that if it DID snow all the time in the East Coast starting early December, then there wouldn't be the song "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"...😀

Thanks! It's good to know that most of the day takes place indoors - especially since at another interview, I ended up having to walk across campus in fairly interesting weather conditions (being pelted with hail, etc.)

Thanks for all the responses, everyone! 😀
Funny thing is that this year it started snowing late December, and is snowing again today. This is definitely atypical, but maybe a sign of snowy winter. You definitely want to check the forecast before you head out.

I am so pumped!!! After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I finally got my interview invite email from Drexel!! Super excited about my first trip to Philly!!!

Complete 7/26/10
Interview invite 9/10/10
Interview 10/18/10

Rejected 1/08/11

Oh well. Life goes on. I was surprised to get an interview anyway. I just wish it didn't take them 13 weeks to say no.

Hey guys!

I have a couple of questions for current Drexel med students regarding post-acceptance details. I'll be away during the summer and I just want to make sure I have everything covered before I leave.

1. Aside from the forms in the acceptance package, are there other forms/paperwork that will be sent to us in the summer that need to be mailed back before school starts?
2. When do people usually start looking for housing? Also, when do housing options usually start opening up?
3. When does registration start? Is everything done online?
4. When is the white coat ceremony?
5. When do classes start?

Thanks a lot and good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews! 🙂

Hey, sorry to hear that. At least you got in to LECOM - Erie, which is a very good school. I know a few docs that went there, and they were happy about it.

This is my first application cycle, and I applied MD only, but if I have to reapply, I would include DO schools. Erie would be my number one choice for DO schools.

Yes, I'm very fortunate and glad to have the Erie acceptance. The worst part about my 13-week wait at Drexel was not knowing whether I would be moving my wife + daughter to Erie or Philly. I'm glad to have an answer now!

Drexel would have been a slightly better fit for us as a family, but in the end, I'm glad to have somewhere to go, and would have been happy at either.

Good luck to the rest of you all applying/interviewing/attending Drexel. It seemed like a wonderful place from my experience there!

It's been a while since I was an MSI but here is what I remember:

1. If you plan on doing PIL, there is an application/essay that is supposed to be completed sometime before school starts. There are some basic online certification/training assignments. That's all I can remember but I could definitely be blanking on other things.
2. If you plan on moving to Philadelphia sometime toward the end of July, most people start looking for housing around May which is about the time that landlords and apt management knows which apartments will be vacant.
3. All that stuff is online or done during orientation.
4. White coat ceremony is usually the first Friday of August.
5. Depends if youre doing PIL or IFM. Mandatory orientation for PIL usually starts the last week of July and for IFM it starts the first week of August.

that's a great question. I'm curious how this waitlist movement stuff works. can any experts or med students chime in on this?

I don't recall the exact numbers, but I believe that ~50% of the ~1300 individuals interviewed are accepted. The class size is 260. So the waitlist moves a lot. One person I know was accepted from the waitlist on the 1st day of orientation.

As far as how they choose people from the waitlist, I couldn't say. I do not recall if it is ranked.

Any news or status changes for people who interviewed after Nov 18th?

Interviewed on December 6th and nothing yet. Still "under review by a member of the admissions committee" :/
