So I'm still waiting to hear back from the school - my file is with the committee post-interview. This could be the only place I might have a shot to get into, but I didn't get "good vibes" - I don't know if it's just because I had a very disinterested student and faculty interview, but I didn't feel that the school was very welcoming. Anyone have views to the contrary? I really want to like the school since it's the only school thus far that showed me some love, but I wasn't too thrilled with the interview day...

My student interviewer was awesome...but then my faculty interviewer seemed extremely disinterested and looked at me once. I was talking to a head of hair the majority of the time...

Mine hadn't looked at my file beforehand and seriously sat there and read my PS to hiimself right in front of me. WTF? Awkward. I excused myself to get a glass of water.

I had both experiences. I am a reapp. THe first interview (Feb 2010), my student interviewer was very bland and unresponsive and difficult to talk to and didn't make eye contact with me or anything.. it was very awkward. Plus she said she only went to drexel because it was the only place she got in.. However, she did have a bad sinus infection and a biochem test that morning so that could've been reasons for her lack of pep. BUT my faculty interview went really well and he was super nice. Sadly, got WLed and didn't get off of it.

Sept 2010 interview, I had the same faculty interviewer who was still nice and friendly... My student interviewer was enthusiastic and happy too. So it was alot more positive.. thus Acceptance this time.. go figure.

Lol And Walt the door guy rocks.. lol he remembered me from the spring. it was funny.

I honestly DO NOT LIKE STUDENT INTERVIEWERS! Something really needs to change with that! :meanie:

I have to disagree, my student interviewer was GREAT! The faculty one was a little tough, but overall I really didn't have a problem with the interview process, I haven't heard back but hopefully its good news 🙂. Good luck :luck:

haha yeah - after my interview, he wouldn't let me out of the building until I said "see you in August" versus "goodbye"

Does anyone know how the student interviewers are selected? Is there an actual app process to become one, or is it just for anyone who signs up? My student interviewer was really friendly and attentive, which came as a huge relief to me - I guess I got lucky!

We sign up on the white board outside of the conference room they make you guys hang out in, and then we show up on the day we signed up for after class. Or during class, if something excessively boring is happening.

That's the exact same thing that happened to me!! I wonder if we had the same interviewer.. PM me.

lol this happened to me, too, actually xD

QuizzicalApe - I hope you haven't already been asked this before, but I'm guessing student interviewers submit forms to the faculty interviewer after they interview us, right? Do they also get together to discuss us? Also, are the two interviewers weighted equally?

We don't submit them to the faculty interviewer, but rather directly to admissions. After the form is submitted, that is the end of the participation that your student interviewer has in the process.

Incidentally, this means that it won't burn you if you don't send your student interviewer a thank you e-mail or card or whatever.

I'm not entirely sure how much weight I'm given. I try to compensate for that lack of surety by being wildly enthusiastic in my evaluation of the applicants that really manage to wow me, but eh. It might be weighty, it might just be a tie-breaker.

Someone else probably knows better than I.

Thanks! You know a lot more than almost all of us, so this really helps!

hahaha, also the thank you card bit is good to know because I totally forgot my student interviewer's name, and I never wrote it down xD

I loved my Drexel interview; both my faculty and student interviewers were courteous and seemed to want to get to know me.

I interviewed Nov. 30th and my status just changed to "under admissions committee review" today. I can't wait to get in here...and Philly is so nice 😀!!

:xf::xf::xf::luck::luck::luck::xf::xf:

Pre-interview hold. Application completed 9/22. :-(

Did your status change? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but I've literally heard nothing from them yet and my app has been complete since 9/26...so while I can't imagine them suddenly interviewing me I somehow haven't managed to hear back at all...

I keep picturing my app just sitting lost somewhere alone 😉

I don't mean to derail the conversation but I had a question about medical school transfering.

I've heard that Drexel "takes a lot of transfers" and that "a lot of people transfer out of Drexel". I'm not sure what to make of this. Does anyone know anything about it?

The person that told me this was trying to convince me to go to UMDNJ-SOM instead of Drexel and used it as an argument point; so I don't know how reliable that source is. The whole idea of transferring seems pretty weird to me... I could understand transferring as a 3rd / 4th year.

What do you guys think?

Urggg!!

Interviewed around Nov 18 - Status still reads 'app is with a member of the admissions committee' - driving me freaking nuts!

Today the committee meets - according to the office staff - if a decision is reached today it will be updated on my status page with in hours...

in other words, it should be up by tonight if I can finally get a FINAL DECISION otherwise ---- its just more waiting 😕 10 weeks post interview and counting

I think your app has company. I've had "no decision has been made" since Aug. 9. I wonder what the hold-up is. I'd like to know if it's even been looked at.

Hi Premed - I really hope you get your decision :xf: I'm still waiting on a decision from a school I interviewed at on Nov 16 (not Drexel though) and I definitely agree it's an awful feeling to wait 11+ weeks and not even know if you'll be waiting just a few more hours, days, or weeks for the news. Hang in there, and keep your head up!

My status changed today to "under review by the admissions committee", I interviewed early December. I guess it doesn't depend on the date you interviewed. Anyways, good luck :luck:and I hope we both hear back soon😕.

I'm guessing it's a little early for anyone to have any idea... but has anyone heard anything on whether or not they expect to take people from the wait list this year?

"Your file is currently under review by the admissions committee."

Is this the status you all are getting or is it something different? I interviewed just a short time ago (1/08) and I am not sure if this was the same status I had before the interview.

What was the pattern of status changes for you all waiting just so I can kind of monitor it?

It's first:

1) Reviewed by a member of the admissions committee
2) With the admissions committee

Seems like your assigned reviewer had a fast turn-around time!

Same status as usual. 2 months tomorrow. I didn't apply to many schools at all and Drexel is the one I'm waiting to hear a decision from (not counting the HPWL at Jefferson). I'm like 99% sure I know where I'm going. I just want closure, ya know?

I would love a shot at Jefferson - one of my current bosses went to Jefferson for medical school and loved it there! Anyway, did you try calling the admissions office?

There should be a fair number of decisions coming out this week. I just got mine today. Good luck y'all :luck:

When you say you got your decision, do you mean your status changed to a decision/final decision has been made or you got the actual decision in the mail?

Also, does anyone know if it is essential for your status to change from "a member of the adcomm" to "application is with the adcomm" before it switches to "decision/final decision" ?? Becuase mine is still with a member...but the admissions staff who I called said it doesn't matter which it says, it could still be voted on today...

Ugh God I hope I get in here I loved this school!!!

This week is going to be 8 weeks since my interview and my file is under review by committee. Wishing everybody a status change today or tomorrow!!

I got an actual decision. I haven't checked my status with them since maybe August.

I work with a lot of Jeff doctors at my hospital and I think most of them are awesome, but the same goes for Temple, Drexel, PCOM and a few from Penn (I think most of them are in more academic/teaching hospital type settings).
And no, I haven't. I really am not surprised, having read the SSD thread from last year lots of people were waiting 3 months if not more. I'm just being impatient.

I will most likely be withdrawing my acceptance in the coming days... I hope it goes to one of you!
:xf::luck::xf::luck:

Has anyone been invited to interview recently? I still have yet to hear anything from this school and am curious if I should just count myself out of the running.

I interviewed 12/6 and my status finally changed yesterday to "under review by committee". Anyone interview on that day or later hear anything yet?

I interviewed a little after that and mine has been under review by the committee for a little over a week...it changed at the end of January.

I interviewed the same day as you and my status changed to " under review by committee" on 1/20. It hasn't changed since then.....

final decision has been made. just updated today. hope it's good news :xf:

early december

Me too... just checked, changed to "final decision." Seems like we might have to wait around a week according to others on this forum... crossing fingers! By the way, the status from "committee review" to "final decision" took literally at most a week. That was really fast.

what do you think the average MCAT is going to be this year?

it would be fun to see the average Drexel SDN average vs. regular average.

The average matriculating MCAT at Drexel the past few years has been ~30.5

I'm sure the SDN average is higher by a few points...

I have yet to hear anything about "a lot" of people transferring out or in. One would have to have a compelling reason to transfer schools (usually related to family matters - e.g. your spouse got a job elsewhere and has to move or a parent is sick/dying and you want to be closer to them). It's not like undergrad where you talk to an advisor and then fill out some paperwork (or maybe it is at some med schools). The one advantage that UMDNJ-SOM or the other UMD campuses might have is cost. Drexel IS expensive. UMDNJ would be cheaper if you're IS. But, without a doubt, UMDNJ-SOM does not have the access to tertiary care hospitals like Drexel does.

That cost advantage is disappearing. All UMDNJ campuses (RWJ, NJMS, SOM) have $30,000 tuition this year, going up by 10.3% every year. That will catch up to Drexel (and the other privates) pretty quickly.

I am at 9 weeks post interview and still have the status "6-8 weeks for a final decision..." For the people that are/were in the same situation, has anyone received an acceptance with this prolonged admissions cycle? Is it possible that we all interviewed with the same faculty member and that person is slow submitting their report? PM me and id like to see if this is true!

I interviewed on 9/27 with a PhD (can't remember his name, white hair, pics of his family vaca to Europe on his screensaver..) and was accepted 12/13..

Interviewed first week of Jan and my file now is under review by a member of the admissions committee. Does this mean my app has been sent to someone on the adcom or is it still with one of my interviewers? Anybody who interviewed around the same time has a more advanced status?

Hey everybody. I interviewed 11/2 and was told that I would know before Christmas. My status changed a lot from "w/ a member of the committee" to "with the adcom" then back to w/ "a member" and finally I had a status that said they needed more information. That one left me a tad confused and upset. I called and no one at the office could tell me what it mean just that someone would be in contact. Then midway through January (around 10-11 weeks after the interview) I got a "final decision." So hang in there! It just can take a while--and that's the hardest part! It depends on your interviewer, the adcom, and the process in general. Just remember that the SDN group is relatively small compared to everyone who is interviewing and waiting!

:luck: Good luck to everyone!:xf:

Congrats on your acceptance! 😀 I never got to see my interviewer's screensaver, but he was also a PhD with white hair! I wonder if we could have had the same interviewer?

it's kind of funny that drexel said my group could possible hear back before new years and I haven't heard back yet 😛
