Sorry to hear about the rejections! Don't lose hope if you're reapplying. I know lots of people who succeeded the second and even third time around.

For those who were accepted, Congrats!! I found a Facebook group (Duke Med Class of 2015). See you guys at Second Look!

hey guys, created this account to protect my identity.

But I wanted to ask... has anyone who graduated from duke or is currently a duke student been rejected? It's almost an accepted fact (though not confirmed explicitly by the duke adcom) that duke grads automatically get interviews...

I thought i did TERRIBLE on my interview, yet was still waitlisted... just wondering if this is another one of those "benefits" that duke grads are getting

I wouldn't necessarily assume you got waitlisted because you went to Duke. I think the amount of weight the interview carries varies a lot from school to school. I got in at a place where I had one of my worst interviews, and I've been waitlisted at a place where I had one of my best interviews. But who knows if our impressions of our own interviews even match the impressions of our interviewers. If you're on the waitlist at Duke, I'm sure it means they see you as a potential student, regardless of how you think the interview went.

Also waitlisted. Soooooooo effing sick of waitlists. I'll probably turn down my spot, so good luck to you all.

Tell me about it. Second year in a row for me on the Duke med waitlist 🙁

Annnnd....waitlisted.
I guess it's better than rejected but I find it not very consoling to know that I have to wait another 2 months

But hey, my birthdays a couple of days after people have to make their decisions so maybe I'll get the best birthday present ever from Duke

To all those accepted : congrats and go to another school so us waitlisters can get in somewhere 😛 Jk jk.

UHHHH has anyone not heard anything at all? I've got no emails, no status change, and nothing in my regular postal mail.

I'm in the same boat. No calls, no e-mails, no stuff in the mail for the second day.

Same here - no communication whatsoever.

When did the others in limbo interview / where are you from?

I interviewed February 16th, one of the last days they held interviews, I think - perhaps that's the reason. Live in NYC.

I interviewed mid February as well. However, I do not think this is the main reason. My interviewer told me that they would completely review EVERY candidate before making ANY admissions decisions.

So if that's true (which I believe it is) they must have sent out acceptances to those that were their top choices and rejections/waitlists to the bottom of the interviewee pool. Those who haven't heard must be somewhere in the middle.

possibly, but I think its more likely they are trying to figure out if they should waitlist or reject the last few of us.

Rejected this morning as well. Interviewed 2/18. Not totally unexpected, but it still sucks. 🙁

Rejected. Thought I was at least worth a waitlist, but no one else seems to want to accept me either (my second year in a row), so why should I expect anything more from Duke?

madskillz, I was really rooting for you... esp. because you were waitlisted last year. I was rejected post-interview last year and same this year despite about 50 updates with my application and moving to/doing research in North Carolina... oh well I am moving on from SDN addiction now and I really hope that for those who are on the waitlist, it moves well in your favor... be persistent! And if you didn't get into med school this year and want to go, don't give up on your dream...make it happen! The economy is causing application numbers to keep on skyrocketing, but I do believe you can make it happen!

Waitlisted. ::sigh:: At least there's still a little glimmer.

I interviewed by Skype last week (yes, they were still interviewing then) and my interviewer told me there'd be two batches of decisions. So I'm anxiously waiting for the second one.

thanks for the info

That makes sense. I know there definitely has to be a good chunk of acceptances left.

Thanks for the sentiment giraffe11 🙂 It is a tough situation to not have things work out again but I do have some consolation this year to have an acceptance in hand. But still, Duke is where I want to be so I'll wait this one out. :luck::xf:

Rejected via email...good luck everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a good week so far...

maybe it's just me, but I can't find the group on FB..maybe PM the link?

Also Waited Listed, but I got University of Washington and U Mich acceptance that's like top 10 in research and 1 in primary care ( for UW).

so I'm gonna try to wait this one out, but i got a good back up plan, DAMN i hate waiting.

Good luck everybody!!!!

Still no news this morning. I fear it could be another week or longer for those of us who have yet to hear something.

Called admission office, the lady said that just few decision not made yet. It will be made soon.

looks like no moving today. No one get any news?

No news for me. At this point, I'm having trouble believing they're doing anything more than figuring out whether to WL or reject us.....ah well, such is life.

No news here either, but I wouldn't assume they won't be offering at least some acceptances.

Does anyone know whether DukeMed has already given out merit scholarships? Are they sent out with acceptance letters?

Although I can't disprove that statement, my guess is that they wouldn't take so long just to decide between waitlists and rejections. Waitlist/Acceptance seems more reasonable to me.

Does any one have Duke's most recent match list? thanks a bunch 🙂

Just joined after waiting anxiously the past couple of weeks. Phoned lady at office and she said "we are still reviewing them vigorously, should be by early next week, but can't tell you exactly if mon/tues/wed/etc." Oh well... another anxious week awaits.

Question for current students or people who know what's up:
Does Duke do on-campus housing or anything like that? How do we find info on this? A search on the website didn't turn up anything for me...

If you attend second look weekend, you'll receive a book or packet of information with years of collected reviews from upperclassmen and former students on housing around the area. They may also take you around to a few places, just to give you a feel. If I remember correctly, once admitted, there's an online exchange as well where people can find roommates and respond to available housing arrangements (usually from the graduating 4th years or other upperclassmen).

Essentially, no one lives on campus, though grad on-campus housing is available. It's not recommended. Housing off campus is very affordable and convenient. Generally, areas immediately around Duke and south of Duke are safer than areas north of Duke. My classmates live in shared houses for as little as 300-400/month or in upscale gated indoor communities (pools, basketball courts, entertainment rooms, 24 hr security, etc.) for about $1000+ for a 1BR. Plenty of great options in the middle, too. I wouldn't stress about this!

okay, coaxed into finally posting by this wait. For those of you who haven't heard back like myself, when did you interview and by what means? It seems that the people who haven't heard back all interviewed late in February or early March via skype?? I interviewed last week of February by virtual interview

Basically, I'm wondering if they are taking a long time because they are genuinely undecided on our apps, or if they just couldn't delay any longer to give out decisions, so they evaluated and gave out decisions for the earlier interviews before evaluating those people who interviewed late?

I interviewed at the very end of Feb via skype and was waitlisted so I'm not sure that's it. Though it could be that it was easy to make a decision on me....😳

I just wish they told us where on the waitlist we are.

DO they accept updates like new LOR or updates on activities or LOI when you'er on the waitlist?

I haven't heard back either. Interviewed Dec. 8 via Skype w/ Dr. Dan Roncalli. I have stopped trying to figure out the method and order (if any) of this process. I'm just hoping for the best. Good luck to you!

I interviewed Dec. 8th at the admissions office, so that might not be a factor, but I'm just hopeful they're working on another round of acceptances. As others said, it would seem pretty ridiculous if they were taking this long to decide on WL or rejections!

I interviewed in mid-Feb (in person) and was accepted. I think the order of review/release of decisions must either be random, or something else that's not based on date of interview or type of interview.

Anyway, best of luck to all those still waiting for news...I know how it is...was tortured by Columbia's snail-mail out here in CA!

wow, thanks so much for all the information!! i'll definitely be at second look, so looking forward to that packet.
