what are the most popular hotels to stay in (for interviewees)?

thanks

What are MD/PhD candidates doing about the "complement and expand upon" the AMCAS research essay? I literally wrote 10,000 characters for the AMCAS research essay and have no idea what else to write.

Any thoughts?

I emailed the woman who sent the invite and she was really helpful. Got back to me last night offering 3 alternate dates in October.

Seriously, the admissions admin is collectively a very nice and accommodating group. When I interviewed a few years ago, I called the office to see what other dates were available (other than the one I was offered). The lady told me all the dates and then mentioned that if I interviewed before X date(s) I would be considered in that month's round of applicants.

Try to stay with a student if you can as that can save you money and give you some additional insider-student info regarding what the interview day is like. They have a pretty decent and organized student hosting program, at least compared to some of the other places that I interviewed at. Otherwise, the Emory Conference Center Hotel and the University Inn are both within walking distance.

Does anyone know how long the MSTP essays are supposed to be? I don't want to boggle them with details, but I was wondering how specific (or general) we should keep it.

Does Emory send confirmation emails when you submit your application? Because I didn't get one.

Yes it generally takes ~2 weeks from the time you submit until the time they "match" your letters with your application. But you should receive a confirmation of complete notice by e-mail as soon as this is done.

No, I don't think so. I didn't hear a single thing from them until interview invite 9/12. Submitted secondary 7/28. OOS 33S 3.8. Anyone interviewing on Friday???

+1.

I got a confirmation e-mail stating my file is complete.

How long before I should take it as a rejection b/c I dislike the "we don't reject anyone during the cycle" limbo stuff? And yes I know I'm being impatient(complete for 3 weeks).

Yes, you're being ridiculously impatient. It's way too early to know if you're rejected. You may know for months, so stop worrying about it.

what's the best way (inexpensive) to get from the ATL airport to the campus? shuttle? taxi? and from which company?

I believe there's a train that runs the distance, but I'll let you know for sure on saturday or sunday if you don't get an answer otherwise. (I'm gonna stay with family for the weekend before my interview and they should know 🙂 )

take the MARTA North from the Airport to Lindbergh Station. Transfer to the #6 Emory bus. There's a stop right in front of the medical school (you can ask the driver ahead of time to make sure that you get off at the right stop). It'll cost you $2.50.

Interview invite here as well! Friday before Halloween... not ideal but excited nevertheless!

Interview invite at 10pm on Friday night...excited nonetheless.

Scheduled for Nov 1 but will hopefully be able to reschedule to the 8th.

should we write a thank you letter after interview? how important for the accept?

Has anyone out there received an interview invite with a sub-30 MCAT score? I have a score below 30 but received the Med MAR prospective applicant email and would like to know how likely it is that I would be seriously considered.

Thanks!

I'm in Med MAR registry with invite to Emory. Have a 31Q MCAT (10,11,10) I got a letter from Emory Diversity office encouraging me to apply. If you got one, you should definitely know you are seriously considered!!!

Did you go to the interview yet? They EXPLICITLY told us NOT to send thank-you letters. However, they DO encourage sending LOI's if you don't get accepted in the first or second round.

Why no thank you letters?

Why no thank you letters?

They say: because they're slow and obnoxious.

I say because ty letters are also contrived.

They mentioned that a ty letter will not make a difference in your acceptance except if an adcomm told me not to do something, I would not do it.

edit: revised for clarity

When were you complete?

Has anyone IS been invited to interview, or is it just OOS so far?

Just interviewed here - had a great day although the day was very long and tiring. Seriously bring comfortable shoes! Got a really great sense of the school and students - such a nice campus and amazing facilities. Good luck to those interviewing soon! The interviews are laid back and fun. PM me with specific questions.

was it really a 3 on 3 interview?? how was that not stressful??

was it really a 3 on 3 interview?? how was that not stressful??

During my panel interview each interviewer directed a question / a few follow up questions to each of the interviewees, one at a time, so nobody was competing for talk time. I thought it was interesting to hear other peoples reasons for being a doctor and how they got there, and also it helps you to see that you arent the only one that gets nervous during interviews. It goes by super quickly (almost too fast!!!)

Yeah there's an individual interview that lasts about half an hour and then a 3 on 3 that lasts about 45 min with 2 faculty members and a 4th year med student. It's not stressful because the questions are very straightforward and they ask you questions one at a time so you never are trying to talk over another applicant. It was actually pretty enjoyable and interesting to learn about the backgrounds of the other applicants. Very low stress. Just be prepared to be yourself and share your personality. The group interviewers will only have seen your personal statement ahead of time, so they don't care and don't know your grades and MCAT scores etc.

My GPA and MCAT are solid, but didn't get invite from Emory, just wondering, for now they only invite from OS? If someone get invite from IS, let me know. Thanks a lot!

I got an invite last night and I'm IS

Hey!

so i just decided to add this school now...
I have faith!!! 👍👍👍

anyone interview here already?? whats the city like??

edit: just read about the 3on3 interview above. weirddd

I have a 3.86/3.88 GPA and a 34P on the MCAT. I have a substantial Work & Activities section.

The only downside to my application was that I was charged with a misdemeanor(driving incident) that was later (by decision of judge and prosecution) reduced to a traffic violation. Everyone I called (including AMCAS) said I better list it, then to not, and err on side of caution, in case the background checks reveal the charge and I dont mention it on AMCAS. It was a stupid immature thing I did in a vehicle when I was 19 (I am 21, nearly 22 now).

How much will this negatively impact me getting an invite from Emory? (Feel free to post opinions, but this is more for students lurking this thread that are already in Emory, that may actually be able to shed some light from their experience during the interview/application process)

Thanks,
