i'd rather not post my stats, but they're right in the mid-range of what i think georgetown's typical matriculants are (30-34 MCAT, 3.5-3.8 GPA). on my interview day, they told us we'd hear back either right before or right after winter break, so yesterday was sooner than i expected.

Congrats! On my interview day, they said that more than 60% accepted at Georgetown come off the waitlist... (idk what the stats are for other schools but seems kind of high)
If you do decide to withdraw, make sure to recommend me for acceptance 🙂

Got an acceptance email yesterday! I'm pretty surprised as well considering how they said OOS people will most likely be waitlisted and the fact that I didn't send any update letters or letters of interest.

Congrats moogle! But it's Washington, DC. Almost everyone getting accepted is OOS.

Agreed, I think I confused them with UVM 😀 for some reason I remember Mrs. Sullivan talking a lot about waitlists.
So I figured out that the performance of the SMPs has no affect on your grade as a med student. If you don't like sitting in large lecture halls, the SMPs being there may bother you, but other than that, you don't really have to worry about them.
Here is how the grading system was described to me:
Everyone can pass (clearly) and is usually around 60%. However, Gtown has honors/high pass/pass/low pass/fail. Honors is 2 std deviations above the mean, high pass is 1 std deviation, and low pass is one std deviation below.
The student I talked to also said that he did not feel there was much competition, and everyone seemed willing to help each other out, give out notes/outlines, etc.
I have heard that getting into a P/F system is better for pre-clinical grades, so Gtown still makes me weary, but the grading system doesn't seem too bad. Not really sure how getting a low pass really affects you, especially since preclinical grades aren't super important.

On my interview day, most people did go to the optional stuff. The breakfast is pretty informal -- you get to hang out with a few of the current students. When it came time for class, they asked us if we wanted to go or stay and chat; I think some people wanted to stay (it was pretty helpful to talk to the current students) and some wanted to go to class. Going to class is kind of useful if you want to pretend you're in med school already 😉 and I found it kind of fun, but in retrospect I think I might have wanted to stick around with the current students for awhile longer. Lectures are kind of the same anywhere you go but the students are what's different.

On my interview day, out of the 7 interviewees, 5 had come to the optional breakfast.
We talked to medical students for an hour (they don't have any input into the adcom - so I guess you don't have to go). It was very laid back. And then we all went to the lecture - they didn't ask if we wanted to go. It was a 50 min lecture, and quite interesting. If you can, I would recommend doing the optional things.

Yeah, I also got the impression a lot of people will be on the wait list. I think they said they accepted 74 from the list last year, but i got the impression it would be less this year. Take with salt though.

I interviewed the first week in Nov and Mrs. Sullivan said we'd hear back after the first week in Jan so I wouldn't worry

Rejected Earlier this week. OOS 32R cGPA 3.56 sciGPA 3.88. Disappointing, haven't got an interview yet this season and thought I really had a killer secondary here.

if you have the $130 to burn I would definitely go for it, but it doesn't seem like they've given out any invites recently, only rejections. so they may have already filled most of the interview slots except for incredibly stellar applicants. Still, if the money isn't an issue to you, it's always worth it to apply anywhere.
rejected this morning as well, complete 10/25. Darn, really though I had survived that round of rejections last Thursday but guess they hadn't gotten to my app yet. 🙁
Man... so much negativity in this thread! Sorry to hear about all of you that got rejected or pooled. I interviewed Nov 2nd and Ms. Sullivan told us that it would take about 7-12 weeks to hear back, so anyone with an earlier date should probably expect the same time-frame.
I also don't really get why so many people are so negative about this school. Yes, its facilities are a bit older than schools with fancy new buildings; but really, should that really be the deciding factor when choosing a school? Maybe its just me, but I found their passion and belief in the cura personalis philosophy to be rather inspiring. I really want a school that see's medicine as a humanistic science, and they really hit the nail on the head in that sense. On top of that, you're right next to DC which provides a wealth of opportunities in its own.
Anyways, for anyone reading and going "damn, Gtown must suck" based on some of the previous posts... just know there's a lot of us that liked it too.

Hey, so they will email you that your status changed and then you go to the Gtown portal and see how it changed. That's post-interview, but before interview they will straight up tell you in the email what's up.
Yeah I'm talking about post interview. I had mine November 2nd and they said they would be letting us know in "7-12 weeks" and that we should email them if the end of January comes and we still haven't heard anything. I was just wondering by what means that information comes out, ie: email, phone call, status update (at applyyourself?), or snailmail.
they must be getting backed up. They told me I would know in 5-8 weeks. From the way things are then I guess Jan. is a good estimate of when I'll hear back too.
I still haven't heard back from my Oct 1st interview! I've called admissions and apparently there had been a computer/server issue so they had to push back the review meetings. I was told that I would likely hear in the new year.Sucks having to wait this long. I really liked this school.
Thanks for the responses you guys, but I'm not really wondering "when" the information will be sent (obviously it is taking forever for more than just one person), but rather "how." I think I read earlier in this thread that a few people had gotten phone calls from their interviewers once accepted; is this true for everyone? My suspicion is that its not, so I'm curious what other ways that information is given to the applicant. Maybe I'm just being obtuse and someone already said that, so I'll go back and look again, but yeah, thats what my question is really getting after.

You receive an email that tells you that you have a status update and should go check it. When you log in, there is a message with your decision (accept, reject, wait list).
This has been answered before...just a few posts earlier actually.
My apologies. I was unclear as to what the "Georgetown Portal" meant. I'm now assuming that just means the "applyyourself" website where we submitted our secondary. (I know thats common sense, but a few other schools I've applied to had separate "status check" sites we have to check; just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something like that here)

Interviewed recently and absolutely loved it. Didn't find the facilities off-putting; found the students friendly; interview seemed to go well. We were pretty much assured that almost everyone interviewing now will be waitlisted but that the waitlist moves actively and quite a few students come from it.

Hi guys, I'm a current M4 at G'town. I haven't been on this board in years, but curiosity (and decompressing after a long week of interviews) got the best of me 🙂 I have had a wonderful experience at the school and wouldn't take back the decision to come here for anything. I feel more than prepared to go out and start residency next year; in fact I'm excited for it as I feel I've been given an incredible foundation to start from. I'm confident the training I've been given stacks up against that which you'd receive at any "top tier" program in the country; in fact attendings at a program (Big Name, Big City) I did an away rotation at specifically commented on how much better prepared I was than their own students.
I'm happy to take any specific questions you have about the program (forgive me if it takes a while to respond, I'm on the road a lot these days!) I should point out though that I'm in the last class to graduate under the old curriculum so I can't comment too heavily on how the first two years' classes are now, but from what I've heard, this year's M3's crushed our step 1 average quite handily (ours was a 228, approx 10pts above the nat'l avg that year).

in one particular instance I came into the OR highly prepared for a case and asked advanced questions of the attending, to the point where she commented that she could tell that I wasn't from their home school because none of their students ever were interacting with her at that level, for example. crushing pimp questions to the point where chief residents singled me out above the interns and junior residents for praise on rounds based on my performance. i also spent a lot of time in teaching with the third year students, things that were basic parts of my third year clerkship which they'd never been exposed to in theirs. lots of little things its hard to really explain adequately online. but suffice to say i feel very confident and well prepared on the wards, and capable of being a self-directed learner. I suppose the point of all that is that we're held to a very high standard from day 1 on the wards, which enables us to feel comfortable working above our level almost immediately. My interns (from other medical schools) commented that we're treated like AI's as third year clerks, and like interns as AI's, etc etc.
That all sounds very arrogant, but I'm very proud of the education I've received. and I'm not the highest ranked student in my class by half.
