Hi Everyone.

I was just wondering if I should be having concerns regarding the status of my application, or if I should be taking any proactive measures.

I was marked completed on October 8. I am a Canadian university student, and our application process is significantly different than the American system, so any help that you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Take care

Do you really have to post the same message in the Yale, Harvard, Columbia and Hopkins threads?

Long story short, there are people who have been complete longer than you at all four schools. You were complete at all not too long ago so you might still have some waiting to do as they wade through the pile of apps.

+1...Haha, it also may have been good to apply a little broader. Say to a school outside the top ten

Great minds think alike gentlemen. I was actually thinking of posting my response to him in all 4 threads but how hypocritical would that be.

Idk, if you post the same question 4 times its only reasonable to expect the same answer...

Okay, I have the figures that I wrote down when I interviewed here early October:

Interviewing 850, Accepting 230. So I guess closer to 1/4 than 1/3, ~27%?

When it costs $400,000 to attend a US medical school compared to less than $100,000 in Canada, it makes sense to only apply to top ten schools. Since I have a good chance of getting into a Canadian school, I only wanted to apply to US schools that would trump those offers.

Stats:
Undergraduate McGill University. GPA - 4.0 (Governer's General Gold Medal), MCAT - 15/13/15/T
McGill University Neuroscience PhD. GPA - 4.0
Extensive ECs, first or second author of 9 articles in high impact papers

Why would I waste my time applying to schools that do not offer anything more than a Canadian school?

With regards to your problems with me posting to each school, again I want to reiterate that I am very unfamiliar with the US application system, and since it is far less standardized compared to the Canadian system, I was unsure whether different schools had different wait times, protocols on update letters etc. I was simply trying to get as much information as possible...the reason these forums exist.

In summary...relax. Otherwise you all will be neurotic, hypertensive, and burnt out before you begin practicing.

I'm not so sure that post is going to accomplish what you wanted. But, you got an answer to the question you asked.

Whoa man...first, take your own advice and chill just a little. Second, your stats are crazy, there is no denying that. The fact that you are without an interview, as far as I can tell from your posts anyway, means applying broader and probably earlier might not have been a bad idea. Finally since you are such a well published, well studied clearly intelligent individual you must have some experience with the internet right?...you can't post the exact same message four times without getting ripped on just a little 👍

Edit: BTW, I agree with osumd. Regardless of how pumped up someone's chest gets, calling them out by name is a no-no

i know this might have already been discussed. but from my understanding harvard reviews its app in order right? so if u haven't received an invite by now is it pretty much safe to assume its a rejection ? (given that I was complete in early august)

I'm in the same boat and that's the assumption I'm going with.

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Np interview invite today. Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems a lot of people are interested in the application timeline. I did not ever receive a confirmation email saying I was "complete", but I was given an interview one month after submitting my secondary. Here are my dates; hopefully, they're helpful:

Secondary Submitted: 9/28
Interview Invite: 10/29
Interviewed in mid-November

As a response to a previous sdner's question, we won't be hearing about either acceptances or rejections until March. So, after your interview, just sit back, relax, and eat a cookie.

Hey all,

I interviewed yesterday (12/14) for NP and during our orientation the admissions officer said that they were sending out the last of their interview invites later that day....

Not the best of news for everyone, but knowing is always better then not knowing right.

Best wishes and good luck with the rest of the process!

Aww... no alma mater love for me? I guess after 4 years here plus 2 post-grad, I'm ready to go some place else, maybe some place warmer, given the weather in Boston today!

This means they are definitely interviewing less people this year. Last year some people were still getting invites at the end of january. I guess it is time to move on! Good luck everyone :luck:

Make it shack you plenty!! Congrats bro! UMass Boston represent.

Thanks. I've got a sneaky feeling I know who you are. Are you "the one with crazy hair"?

If that's the case then I guess they should update their website since it currently states that they give out invites until the end of january.

i don't think NP interviews have ended considering that the interview invites are being sent to those completed in late oct/early nov. i know people who have yet to be completed.

All I know is the director of admissions for NP told us at the interview that they has sent out all the NP interviews. They also said they were interviewing slightly less people this year (800). However, HST could still be giving out invites.

I also work in a lab at the medical school and my PI is on the admissions committee...She has said the interview invites are not in chronological order. It all depends on the applicant and how strongly they feel about them.

It should also be noted that not everyone receives "completion" emails before they get invites. I know a handful of people who did not, including myself.

I just called the admissions office, and the guy I talked to said that interview invites for NP are given out until late january. Of course, since I was complete in September, this probably doesn't apply to me but the rest of you shouldn't give up hope yet!

"Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in"

(I need a Michael Corleone picture right here) 😀

Hi, everyone. I am new to SDN, so forgive me if someone has already talked about this on the forum and I missed it. For anyone who interview for NP, are you sending update letters? I am a senior right now, so I have written an update letter to tell them about my semester and to send my transcripts. My question is - should I email the letter or send it via snail mail? Thanks!

interviewed*

I interviewed there in november, but I had sent them an update quite a while before that, around mid-september. I updated them about a research award I got. I just emailed the admissions office, and on the day of my interview confirmed that they received it (because I never got an acknowledgment email)

Update Letter:

Dear Harvard,

I am playing Call of Duty: Black Ops. I just saw Black Swan at the movies and it was awesome. Natalie Portman is haaaWWWWWt!!!!!! She went to Harvard right? Introduce me? Thanks.

bahaha. That's funny because i'm ALSO playing black ops. I think I'll send that update to not only medical schools but everyone I know... because I'm lovin Zombies.

And if I wasn't a girl, I would probably also want to meet Natalie Portman.

this post made me smile

Do you guys think that if you interviewed earlier you have more of a chance of getting in? I know it is rolling admissions, but getting an earlier interview might mean that they were more interested in your application...

Take it for what it's worth, but my pre-health advisor said this is exactly how it doesn't work. And based on my limited knowledge of other non-rolling schools' admissions procedures, all interviewed applicants are considered and decisions determined only after interviews are completed. The timing of the interview is irrelevant.

Definitely not. As an alum of the undergraduate program, I know a great deal of people who attended or are attending HMS. Out of the 20+ people I know at HMS, it did not matter when they got their interviews; in fact, some who interviewed at the end of the season got in while others who were interviewed at the beginning were waitlisted or rejected. Again, when they say that they're non-rolling, they really mean it. Everyone's in the game until it's over.

I mean, if two different separate committees review the app and there's no crosstalk, wouldn't it make more sense to send two letters addressed individually to each committee?

Well considering that a guy got an invite just over a week after he was complete and I've been complete since August, I'm not too hopeful.

same haha. can't win them all though. that's why we apply broadly 🙂
