Just wanted to say what's up to everyone here waiting to hear back from HUCM! I'm still keepin' this thread in my prayers because I, along with everyone else, know how anxious the waiting can be. It's going to work out in the end! 🙂
 
This is the first time I that I noticed that this thread wasn't on the first page of the forum. Hope all is well with everyone
 
Good luck to all thoses that are still waiting and :xf: to those that are interviewing tomorrow or Wednesday!!!! You guys are going to LOVE Howard. A lot of schools say that they are a "family" but, Howard really means it (as you can see from this forum).... So feel at home... relax... be yourself and you will do fine :-D.... Hopefully, you guys will join us in the fall.... Pairofscrubs and omz54 GOOD LUCK!!!

Beeweew Congrats, I bet it feels so good!!!!!!! My daughter interviews on Wednesday. We are nearing the end but keeping the dream alive!!!!! It's not over til it's over!!!!!!

I was at the monthly HUCM tour last week and I think Ms.Walk had family emergencies, therefore she may take longer than usual to respond to emails and what not (at least that is what the front desk guy told me)

Dont lose hope SuperMomMD!!!! My friend (im going to purposely leave their name out) didnt get an interviewed until late April and she was placed on the waitlist (which is NOT RANKED) and then given a seat two days before classes started. This was VERY RECENT so please dont lose hope!!!! There is always hope. Keep calling and sending updates. If you can, try to visit the school for the med school tour or just to "say hello".

I was already interviewed and accepted but I remember calling just to make sure they received my confirmation email lol. It wont hurt to go the extra mile to secure your interview. Good Luck on your interview DRMangucla!!!!! :-D You're going to love it at Howard
 
Thanks Kaji215 and lilmoomoobean congratulations on your acceptance Kaji. I tried calling during calling hours, but no one answered. So I'm guessing everyone's busy. I'm just concerned that ticket prices to D.C. are rising as I get closer to my March 23rd preferred date. Also, do you guys have information whether the class is full or not? Because I know some schools are already full as a school I was suppose to interview for told me that their class is full and that I have to interview for the waitlist. Thanks guys
 
Hey, guys!! I think the last interviews are held in April. Even though people get on the alternate list, there is much movement on the list mid May b/c that is when people HAVE to decide where exactly they want to go to school. Some may have just paid to have their seats reserved for next year and not really made up their minds where exactly they want to attend. So, there is hope!😀
I was looking at last year's thread and I think you guys should, too. You will get a good idea of when the last interviews are sent out and how the alternate list works. Good luck to you all! Hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Hi, DRMangucla! I don't know if the class is full but even if it is, you can be placed on the alternate list, which is really not that bad (read the post above). Also I suggest you keep calling and calling until you reach someone and verify your interview date! I cannnot stress enough the importance of interviewing earlier even late in the game! Try to get the earliest interview date possible! I wish you the best :xf::xf:! Hopefully the 23rd is still open...Keep faith!

Thanks DRMangucla. You should try calling everyday (even when you are not calling during the preferred hours) because your concern is time sensitive... Im not sure if the class is full but, as I stated earlier, my friend was accepted two days before classes started because the wait list is NOT RANKED (She interviewed in April). If you show enough interest and are committed to coming to HUCM than you increase your chances of getting in. Good Luck on your interview!!! :-D

If not do you know any med students at the school that can give me a good insight about the school, I mean the website is great but having talk to someone personally will make me more at ease. btw I called and I got the 23rd interview. Hang in there SuperMomMD, you're not alone in the waiting process.... HeresHoping62, omz54, pairofscrubs, and many lurkers are also waiting. The great things is that Howard interviews candidates later than mosts Med schools so there is still a lot of time.

What are some of the things you feel set Howard apart from other schools. Could you possibly compare the social and academic cultures of this school and some of the University of California schools?

Well I'm from MA I know zero about Cali. But Howard is awesome the people here know how to work hard and have a good time. It's NOT** cut throat, we help each other a lot! I hear of most schools where there is comp 24-7 hide all your great resources and so on. The students here are VERY VERY VERY diverse. They come from all over the world and country. The education here is great, I love the format how we go by a organ systems based format. It's very hard but doable work, I hope that helps.👍

Thanks for the help! I have a question concerning the format of your curriculum. You say that Howard goes by an organ systems based format? What does that mean exactly? And, what other formats are out there?

By that I mean, we stay on lets say for example we are doing "Respiratory" we do the structure function of that system. So we do all the physiology, embryology, histology, & structure all at the same time of that system. Some school may teach embryo, histo and etc on their own separate courses. I think the format flows better.

Yeah! I love the diversity of the student body!! There's actually a physician who works at the clinic I volunteer at and he graduated from HUCM about 30 years ago... He told me the best part about attending HU was how much the class was close and how they worked together and persevered through med school. Especially the first two years (which he considered to be the hardest) brought everyone (from different backgrounds/cultures/traditions) together. He also told me about their frequent reunions and how tight they all still are! And when I toured and interviewed, students really seemed to feel at home and happy, they foster a sense of belonging. I'm not saying it's all sunshine and rainbows but I feel really happy to have been accepted here because with med school kicking our behinds, it's going to be great to have classmates who stick together rather than tramp on each other to get on top. Honestly, I haven't been to or heard of another professional school with this much camaraderie among classmates and personally, I'm really looking forward to building that trust and feeling of family with my fellow classmates/schoolmates!

I agree, nothing greater than when people ask you "what medical school do you go to?" HOWARD !!!!!!!! And yes the 1st year is hard but doable, and brought out the best in people when others needed help.

I haven't heard back from Howard yet. I tried calling, but the line went straight to voicemail. I figured I'd give it another week or so. I did get accepted to a couple of schools this week so I'm feeling extremely blessed right now to have a choice🙂. It's a far cry from my first cycle, let me tell you!

Is anyone watching March Madness?!?! My Alma Mater made it out the first round for the first time in ten years (Temple University)!!! Only five more wins til we're cutting down the net under a blanket of confetti *wishful thinking* hahahahaha :laugh:
 
Congrats on your acceptances QueenTut!!! All you need is ONE school to believe in you!.......As for me I am very discouraged at this point. The docs, nurses, and non-clin staff at work all believe I would be a great fit for any medical program and I havent heard anything!!! NOt sure what to do or where to go at this point, I am a non traditional student so time is ticking. Is anyone else going thru the same?
 
YES! I'm in a very similar situation! I feel so helpless at this point, I'm trying to get things in order to re-apply next year, but I'm not sure what I have to change with my application to make it more competitive. I just wish I could hear some good news! I'm going to keep applying till I get in, so if its not this year, maybe the next, or the next, or the next...I'm not gunna give up!

We just gotta stick together, we'll get through this!🙂🙂🙂
