I personally found it hilarious because of the extent to which other sites have gone to sugar-coat their letters.
I think I have the mean number of interview offers for my cohort--two. A girl whose geographic range was literally double mine has three. Last year, less qualified applicants from our program had up to eight interview offers, so it is a bit disheartening.
We have been coping by making an effort to socialize after school/practicum hours. We used to do that often during the first two years, but allowed it to fall by the wayside with dissertations, marriages, etc. We also have plans to all show up in our department after match day to help peers who don't match go through clearinghouse. This is kind of a tradition in our program that even students from other cohorts regularly participate in.
I think it is awesome that your peers are planning to help those that don't match during the Clearinghouse. None of my peers thought that was a particularly important thing to do last year, and it was a lonely process when my program also decided to schedule interviews with grad school applicants that day.
