2010-2011 Internship Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone who has gotten an interview from UCSD gotten an email today? I received one with the tracks that I'm interviewing for, and it doesn't make sense because I didn't apply to one of them....

Did anyone have trouble scheduling an interview with the coordinator at Cambridge Health Alliance? I was told to contact them as soon as possible but I never heard back from them. Anyone had a similar experience?

I didn't apply there, but I was trying to set up an interview via e-mail with a training director at another site, and for some reason she never got my e-mail. I say that because if you e-mailed, it's possible the site never got it for one reason or another. FWIW.

thanks...I called and left a voicemail. Perhaps the site has been so busy in the past 2 days that they didn't get a chance to return my message.

Just got my Baylor rejection.

good luck to those with interviews and fingers crossed for those still waiting!

Hi!
I saw a bunch of people heard from Cambridge Health Alliance. I was wondering if you heard by phone or email and what tracks you applied to? I still haven't heard...not sure if that is good or bad!! Thanks!!

Just wondering if anyone else applied for or heard from mt. washington pediatric hospital. Haven't seen anything on here and still waiting to hear from them. Thanks!

I am soooo sorry. That must be really tough. You seem like such a good person, I am sure it will work out one way or another. TRY to stay positive, the Clearing House could still result in something good!

Has anyone heard from Child and Adolscent Behavioral Health or Applewood Centers (both in Ohio)?

Yeah, I got the email . . . its kinda weird . . . I have three interviews . . . and two of them are exactly the same??? But they are all three tracks that I selected.

Just some late updates from the APPIC listserv in regard to spots, deadlines, etc.

Hello, we regret to advise that we are reducing the number of interns we will be taking for the 2010-2011 training year from 13 to 10 due to significant reductions in our adult services. Our Pasadena Family Services will not be a placement site for 2010-2011, but Pacific Clinics-El Camino and Pasadena Full Service Partnerships are still adult emphasis options.

its been rough. i'm hoping something great will come through with the clearing house, but also dreading the prospect of possibly doing this again next year. thanks for the kind words! good luck to you as well!

Well, it's 7:47 p.m. and I still have three sites that allegedly have a status update for 12/15... all assumptions aside as to overwhelming apps and likely later notification times, these are the places I'm still waiting on:

Hudson River Regional - Rockland Psychiatric
Baltimore VA
MCG/Norwood

Later notification dates:
Biloxi VA
WVU - Charleston

Anyone heard anything? :xf:

Still waiting to hear from:

UMDNJ- Robert Wood Johnson
Dutchess County Department of Mental Hygiene
Hudson River Regional- Hudson River Site
Woodhull

I heard from Dutchess yesterday with an open house invite. I'm still waiting for Hudson River Regional also... Best of luck!

I got the answer to my question. Kaiser LA has started notifying people...
I have now heard from all my sites (6 invites, 7 rejections). Good luck everyone! Hope that well match!

Anyone hear from or still waiting to hear from Erie Psychological Consortium? Their notification date is today and I haven't heard anything yet so I was just wondering...

It felt weird to get a rejection from Greg Keilin. I was like, "I thought you'd understand and just let me interview!"

I have now heard from all my sites (6 invites, 7 rejections). Good luck everyone! Hope that well match!

Congratulations! That is a pretty good number of sites (if what people are reporting here and from peers is any indication). Good luck with them!!

I'm waiting on Biloxi, too. No word yet.

Just got back from my first interview...and all the dust has settled, ended up with 7 interviews (8 rejections), pretty much was what I was hoping for and expected. Good luck to all as interview season gets into its heavy season!

Waiting for Biloxi seems a little easier because their materials set their notification for 12/30, but Baltimore has really got me. They are one of my best matches and I have heard that people received both interview and rejection notices...holding onto some hope that they're painstakingly reviewing my app??? lol

Hi! Long time lurker but I finally joined to give my two cents to ease some anxiety like how many of you have helped me get through this anxious period!
I got contacted by CHA yesterday and I actually called and left a message, but I called back after the time frame I mentioned in the message and got hold of the point person. Good luck!!!

It is 8:25pm ET and I have 4 to hear back from still.

Gouverneur's (Someone just got contacted earlier tonight so...I don't know if that's good or bad)
Woodhull Medical
Trinitas
Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut

Congratulations to everyone that have heard back from every site and best of luck to all that are still waiting!!!

Hey Geisinger and Mailman!! Are you OUT THERE?!! :soexcited:Can you just send us our emails and let us get on with our lives?!!..... Seriously, it's almost 8:30 on the East Coast- just rip the band-aid off!

I need a drink or some :spam::spam::spam:!!

Hi Jeannebean---was really pulling for both of us with UNC...got my rejection today as well. I still haven't heard from Mass General, so I'm giving up....

I was pulling for you too! Yeah it was bummer for all of us in my program who were holding out hope for UNC. I would email Sherry Brooks at MGH and ask her the status of your application. She was really nice on the phone and I don't think it would hurt! Good Luck!!!!

I just heard from Child & Adolescent in Canton, OH this morning...got an interview.

Thanks! I got an interview there as well! However, that was the only good news of the day. The rest were just rejections. Still waiting on:

John L. Gildner
Medical College of GA
Woodhull

(the child/adolescent tracks where applicable)

and WV University Health Science Center (but their notification isn't until later)

I'm surprised you didn't hear from Gildner today. I got my call around 530PM EST. Maybe they're doing it in alphabetical order?

Did you score an interview at Virginia Treatment Center for Children?

Finally all done ! 6 interviews total, 3 at medical centers and 3 at community mental health centers. I also had 11 rejections.

yeah maybe 🙂 My last name is George though. So who knows. I didn't get one at Virginia Tx Center. I have to be honest, I'm a little bummed out that I didn't get more interviews.

I got an interview at Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Ohio and University of Tenn Health Sciences Center (to my own surprise since they have historically taken mostly Ph.D. students).

I can't complain though with the interviews cause it is my first year applying, and I'm on the "3+1" plan since I already have a masters.

Congrats! That's not bad at all. Good luck at the interviews!!

Wow, you're in the exact position I am in terms of master's and year in a PsyD program. I'm sad about the interview count too. Out of 13 sites, I ended up with two interviews, which ... is pretty scary. Sigh, sigh, sigh.

How did the interview go?

Meh, it went alright. I did have one rather odd question: "You're working in an inpatient ward, with a borderline patient who just had a buddy sneak him some coke, and he seems to have created some little quasi-weapons out of forks, and the nurses won't work with him b/c he is verbally abusive...what would you do?" My first reaction was to laugh (perhaps that wasn't the best response), but it was such an odd question, especially given that this site did not have an inpatient rotation!

This is awesome- I laughed so hard just now! So what did you say??

I said something about first doing a safety check regarding these "fork weapons", and then talking with the nurses about what to expect with borderline patients, and to not take verbal abuse personally (but that they still need to do their jobs, regardless). Kinda had to pull that one out of my a** 🙂
