Looks like last year everyone who interviewed after 11/20 or so waited until March to find out they were either waitlisted or rejected- which would be a cruel system. I would hate to think I flew to NYC to interview for a waitlist spot. Am I wrong about this?

I think that they definitely meant 10/25 since it says on MDApps that they received the invite on 9/28...and schools don't interview on Thanksgiving I don't think. So it seems so far like the latest interview dates that have received decisions have been 11/10. Ugh, interviewing in late November sucks! I want a decision!

Just bc u didn't get a call this week doesn't mean you won't be accepted later. The lady at my Nov interview said only a select few will be admitted on a rolling basis..most of us will find out if we are accepted/rejected/waitlisted in the spring...

Right- it's just highly highly likely I will be waitlisted at best.

remember that SDN does not represent the entire applicant pool. I'm sure they accepted people who interviewed 11/20 or later...

It actually seemed like everyone was waitlisted and a few rejects on March 1. If 25 people respond like that, it unlikely that it was just an SDN bias.

But they are doing everything a little different this year so no one knows for sure. Good news is the waitlist moves are big, and a huge part of the class comes from that list.

So is likely that NYU will make calls to some people tomorrow and next week as well? Or are the rolling decisions over....

Since they're messing around with rolling admissions, do you guys think it's possible to hear back from them before the end of the year even if we didn't hear back today or yesterday? Or is it more like waves of rolling admissions? Yesterday, February, March etc.

I don't think anyone really knows. Who knows if they even know, they could just be doing it as they go.

Does anyone know if NYU is still giving out interviews or is it done for this cycle?

+1. If anything SDN is biased towards people posting acceptances, so if a lot of people post and there isn't one acceptance it's safe to assume the acceptances are few and far between. By the way, to the person who mentioned that a select few people get notification early, this thread indicates its more than "just a select few" (which is what Cornell does). It seems that NYU likes to utilize the waitlist to make things as nonrolling as possible. When I interviewed my tour guide said he was accepted off the waitlist. Still I wonder what percent of the waitlist actually gets in.

I'm sorry, BostonFan. Like your spirit, though. Would you mind if I ask if this was a pre- or post-interview rejection?

Oh sure, it was a pre-interview rejection. I would have liked to visit the school, but I understand that tough decisions must be made during this process. Good luck to you, vareva!

I called the admissions office this week and they are scheduling interviews into the first week of January. It seems as though they have 3 more weeks left to schedule interviews.

i emailed an update letter like 2 weeks ago. does admissions send out a confirmation that they received?

No. But if you call them they'll say something along the lines of: "all update letters are placed in the applicant's file"

On the post-interview survey, my interviewer was not on the drop-down list... 😕

e-mailed an update letter combined with an in the area letter today since I'm going to be at Columbia and Downstate second week of january. I sent them an ITA earlier this year with no bagel.

I feel as though this may be a futile attempt... but I love this school so I figured I'd try again!

Do applicants who submitted their application in early October and had their application complete in November have their application looked at by the admission committee? If interview invitations will be sent out through January, and not after January, it seems pointless to apply past August/ September. Does anyone know about this?

From last year's thread (posted on 1/6): "Invite! Complete 10/09 or so. Available dates are through 01/29. If interviews only go through the end of January, as some people have said, it looks like I just barely made it."

By 1/12: "I just called the admissions office to inquire - she told me that all of the interview spots had been assigned."

Lastly: "Based on previous posts on this board, they got through completion dates up to early October. Based on my own timeline, this means they got through submission dates up to late August."

I'm personally not sure about the late Aug part...

The August part doesn't matter. When you are complete is applicant dependent and specific to when they receive your LORs/committee letter. August submission shouldn't matter, unless they mean an August submission of AMCAS, which would make sense since if you submitted AMCAS late August you most likely weren't verified until October and that would be when you could possibly be complete with NYU (secondary, LORs, etc).

Could any current NYU students enlighten us who have interviewed post 11/10 how the process will unfold now? It seems that we will now wait until March for either a waitlist spot or rejection, and if we interviewed in after mid-November we were basically interviewing for a waitlist spot anyway. Is this all correct? Thanks for any information.

if you look at last years thread, you'll see that some people that interviewed in december and later got accepted in february- meaning that they are not given waitlist spots.
of course, if you aren't accepted in february for those interviewed late, or accepted by now for those interviewed early, you are probably either waitlisted or rejected.

Also, being that they are more into rolling admissions this year, we may see some acceptances from the waitlist before mid may (as some kind folks who are accepted and decide not to go may tell NYU this before the deadline when they must drop all acceptances but one)

I'm not a current student, but I expect it would be similar to last year's process. According to last years thread, after the initial December acceptances there was a second wave of acceptances on February 1st, followed by waitlists/rejections in early March. Acceptance off waitlist began a few weeks after that and continued through May.

^^^Beat me to it!!

Hi everyone, I interviewed this past Thurs Dec 16th, and I was wondering how long on average it has taken NYU to get back with a decision.

I missed that too, thanks guys!

just curious..is anyone accepted for sure going here???

At the moment, that's my plan. Waiting on other Manhattan schools, though, but right now NYU is looking like the winner.

icic so its not your top choice but you guys think you might end up here anyhow?

I'd say that's a fair assessment. Not to say I don't whole-heartedly like NYU though.

Assuming I won't get anymore interview invites, Columbia could take the cake. Yale of course sounds awesome, too. It's too early to tell!

And by this I mean Columbia would take the cake. I don't know why I'm being so hesitant.

Sinai is my first choice. Can't say much about Cornell or Columbia since I haven't been invited to interview there, and the interview day makes a huge impression on me usually. Also.. what's the point of getting hyped about a school that doesn't even invite you to interview? 😕

That said, I loved NYU's program and everything it offers, so I am more than perfectly happy to go there. The cost is kind of a downer, if anything... especially because my brother also goes there for undergrad.

Does NYU offer any merit scholarships?

Does NYU offer any merit scholarships?

The financial aid papers they gave me on the interview day say this: "All institutional aid offers are based primarily on financial need and are used to attract the most competitive and diverse class possible."

So frankly I don't know if they have merit-based scholarships.

someone asked this during my interview day. The dean said that they do not offer any merit scholarships.

Thanks for the information!

yea i really liked nyu when i went...my tour guide was super cute too lol so i dunno if that had anything to do with it lol anyhow, the only school that i think would have me thinking is columbia, but i certainly wont pick it over nyu just because its "columbia", i think its really important to genuinely love the school you go to.

I interviewed Nov 29th and my status just changed from interview complete-final decision pending to final decision pending. does this mean anything in terms of admissions for me? I believe I was part of the second wave of interviews that are mean to find out in february?

I had my interview around then too and my status also changed recently...

So it has been about 10 days since the first major wave, has anyone heard of anyone that was accepted after interviewing later than 11/9. That is the latest I have seen.

I heard the next wave of acceptances is in early February.

Yea that was what happened last year. That is not the question I am asking, I guess I wasn't completely clear. I am just trying to see where they got up to for the first wave, since I am right on the bubble in between the two.

My friend interviewed 11/10 and she was accepted.

That seems like the winner so far, unless someone has a later one (obviously not everyone is on SDN, though I don't get how some people never find this site during the process).

does anyone know where I can find NYU's match list for '09 or '10? The only one I found on there website was from 2007, which was for post-graduate years 1 and 2, and I'm not sure what that means. Thanks!

I've looked for this, too, but couldn't find it.
