I am hesitant to write anything before they have even made an initial decision on me post interview- anyone have some input on this? Thanks.

No I wouldn't wait. As long as you actually have something to update them with, or if you just want to send a love letter or whatever. The letter could be the difference between their initial decision being rejection and waitlist.

nyu asked for a deposit to hold a spot in the class. does anyone know if the money gets refunded after withdrawing from the school?

It does if you withdraw before May 15th.

While there doesn't seem to be an obvious downside to sending a letter post-interview, don't you think it's a little much? I'm tempted to send one myself, but I'm hesistant...

Why would it be too much? I think it's pretty standard to send letters after your interview. Thank you letters of course, but if you really like a school why wouldn't you send them a letter making them aware of it?

i sent them a letter post interview cuz i had some pimp stuff happen that i wanted to let them know about, and i got in. so its certainly not too much, i would just say make sure u have something noteworthy to talk about.

good luck

How did you guys send in your updates? Did you email or snail mail?

Oh dear. I've become like 85% sure I'm attending NYU next year. My excitement... it's becoming really difficult to handle. :soexcited:

👍 Congrats on the multiple acceptances. Are you trying to decide between SUNY and NYU or waiting on a decision yet to come down?

BTW its almost Febuary 😀 and I can't wait to hear the AdCOM's decision on me...its like Christmas eve except it lasts for 2 months

I'm half-heartedly holding out for the Sinai waitlist... although considering my circumstances (disgustingly excessive legacy there, personal involvement with the hospital, etc), I think the waitlist was a politically "nice" way of rejecting me.

I also have a tiny glimmer of hope in the back of my heart for Columbia (I'm at Barnard for undergrad), but dreams are dreams and I am a very grounded person. 🙄

So NYU it probably is! Good luck to everyone else <3

What email address did you use to submit updates? I haven't been able to find that little bugger on the main website!

so how did you guys format it?
like dear dean geisner or something?
is this a formal thing?

Use a business heading. One of the attendings that post in pre-allo, Catalystik, put up a nice template on the body of text and what you should be telling the schools, so I'll give him/her credit for that and paraphrase below. The business heading I found online or just in Word.

Name
address
phone #

school
admissions office title (get this info from website or MSAR)
address
city,state zip

To _____ (either address to the admissions committee or if you are sending specifically to someone such a dean, address them):

tell them why you are writing to them, such as update, express your interest or intent, etc. Write whatever is your main body of text is. State your interest or why you fit (maybe look at the school's mission statement or something pertinent from your interview). Then close thanking them for the opportunity and you look forward to hearing back from them regarding a future interview/acceptance/attending/etc whichever is appropriate for your letter.

Sincerely,
awesome SDN pre-med
aamc ID #

Does NYU has a app status page? I can't seem to find a link, though I thought I had seen one in the past....

Quick Question: For those of you who have sent in updates by email:

Did you receive a receipt/confirmation from the admissions office? If so, how long did it take to receive it?

see you there 😀

Man, i feel so owned. Got waitlisted to Sinai and was really hoping to go there. This process is the worst. Now it's time to wait for NYU...🙁

I would love to see you both there- only one small step left- getting in!

I interviewed in December and the more I think about it the more I want to go to this school. I wish February would come sooner!

best of luck to the both of you!

Does NYU respond to your email when you send them something? Or are they silent about it?

Can you expand on this opinion for me?

And could they confirm that? I called to confirm they received an email and she claimed she couldn't....that it automatically went to my file but that she could not check.

Same here, I sent a letter a few weeks ago and she said they did not e-mail back or confirm over the phone but it would be added to my file..did anyone actually get a confirmation that their e-mail was received?

After I sent a letter and didnt receive any confirmation, I emailed them back asking if they got it and they replied saying that they had gotten it and added it to my file.

when i called in, the lady told me that they received it.

So does anyone know the answer to this? I have the emails of the dean only.

I would send updates to that general inbox until around waitlist season in May. At that time, you are probably best off sending updates directly to the dean of admissions.
