Anyone know anything about the financial aid process? The website...leaves something to be desired...

There's a sheet on financial aid in the packet they gave you during your interview. It doesn't seem like they have a school specific financial aid application. They just say you have to include parent info on FAFSA if you want to be considered for institutional aid. Also, the email you got once you paid the matriculation deposit says "Further information about housing and financial aid will be sent out in early March."

Just looking through the last few years, I think we are going to hear on 3/1 or 3/2, and not before then. Only a handful of exceptional/diverse people have ever posted getting in in February, and then come March all decisions are released, mostly waitlist. The year before last it was like 10% of posters on SDN got accepted on 3/2, last year no one at all posted an actual acceptance. In May they start to pull off the waitlist. Months of waiting, Yum.

There was a round of acceptances in the first week of February last year.

Yeah, 4 posted acceptances, that was the handful I was referring to. Interestingly, none of them interviewed in November.
 
Lately when I have looked on this site there is a huge ad for NYU at the top of the page, just rubbing it in my face. The good news is, the month is 37% over with!

Do you mean the one for NYU's nursing school? I've seen that one on here a few times. Guess they figure if our first career choice doesn't work out, their advertising might pay off?
 
february is 43% over! almost halfway to those (hopefully wonderful) decisions!
 
not to burst the anticipation bubble, but a family friend of mine just heard back from NYU with an acceptance.
 
I know you said it was a family friend, but by any chance, do you know when he or she interviewed? Thanks.
 
or if they are an untraditional or minority student, since those decisions seem to come out of a different office.
 
Guys, you should prolly relax. If they sent out any decisions, this thread would be poppin' with SDNers getting acceptances-- they'd do it on a scale where it's more than 1 "family friend." It looks like you're all waiting for March 1st. Good luck everyone & hang in there!!!

he's totally right- i had just heard this news and figured you guys would want to know.

she's a totally nontraditional student, and is very possibly an exception. i don't know when she interviewed-- sorry!
 
Just wanted to post this information to the forum for those who are waiting on responses from NYU. Got the Certiphi email today asking for me to fill out the background check for a school that has either accepted or waitlisted me. Of the schools I've interviewed with, NYU is the only one who uses this service. Here's what the email said just in case people are curious.

"You have received this email because you have been waitlisted or conditionally accepted by one or more of the medical schools participating in the AAMC-facilitated program for performing criminal background checks on conditionally accepted applicants and waiting list applicants."

From what I've read its about two weeks after you get one of these that you here back from the school. Placing the day heard back at March 1st. We'll see. But this email makes me cautiously hopeful and unbelievably nervous. Good luck to everyone.

Not saying you're universally wrong about this 2 week thing since our situations aren't the same, but I got the background check request 3 weeks after my acceptance call/email.

That's because Certiphi can only start CBC's in early January and you were accepted in the December batch.

That said, does anyone with multiple acceptances/WL's to criminal background checking schools know if we get the Certiphi e-mail every time we are put on the WL or conditionally accepted for such a school? If that is the case then getting the Certiphi e-mail prior to March 1 would be, at the very least, a WL 🙂.

I have multiple acceptances as well as multiple waitlists from criminal checking schools and I have only received the email once (in January).

Makes sense...they distribute to any other schools that ask. Guess a heads-up for those that have not been WL'ed and/or accepted by a CBC school. If you get a Certiphi e-mail at least you know you're not rejected...at any one of the CBC schools you've interviewed at which may happen to be NYU.

Not exactly ideal, but not shabby either.
 
When I got the criminal background check I called all of the schools I had yet to hear back from (thinking I got waitlisted at the schools post interview) and all the admissions counselors told me that this email is only sent out once you've already been notified of your acceptance or waitlist. I know you said NYU is your only school that uses this and you have yet to hear back, but I'm just sharing what I've been told.

According to AMCAS, we should only get the e-mail once: "Your consent will serve for all medical schools, and you will not be asked to provide consent upon receiving additional, conditional acceptance offers by participating medical schools." I have two acceptances from schools that participate and I've only received the certiphi e-mail once.
 
Any recent news, y'all? (I'm the least southern person in the U.S... If you knew me, that'd be funny.)

Just updated my status when I was accepted a few months ago because I was really excited. Still am, one of the best periods of a future doctor are those few months where medical school hasn't yet hit like a freight train but you know you have a spot come August.

Anyway, I apologize if it misled you and good luck with your cycle!

ps: Just noticed my sig is missing in some posts but not others...weird.

Nah- that's actually a rational number (3/7) so it wouldn't have taken him/her too long to calculate... no longer than any of these other percentages we've seen, at least.

Only 11 days until we have some closure (even if it is in the form of a waitlist, I just want to know they judged me in some way)!
