I should have taken the november 2nd date they offered but couldn't get off work. not saying that would have got me in, but at least i wouldn't have interviewed for the waitlist.

advice to future interviewees: TAKE THE EARLIEST DATE POSSIBLE. I should have switched my other interview to make it on the 2nd. T___T
 
Waitlisted. Owned haha. I interviewed in Mid-December
 
also waitlisted, interviewed mid october. kinda rough when your interviewer says "i would accept you on the spot if i could." 🙁
 
waitlist here also. Interviewed Nov 15. Maybe they really did just trick us into coming out to interview for the waitlist, eh? Congrats to anyone who gets accepted from a November or after interview date!

WL'ed as well. Hurts but better than a rejection. Interviewed early January. Kudos to those who gain acceptance today or early next week (whenever the acceptances come out).
 
So did everyone get the email at the same time (Around 3:15 Eastern)?

No news, and I didn't get in in October. Status is still the same. Anyone get rejected or accepted post-interview so far? Send me a message if you don't want to post it.
 
Okay so last year the first people pulled from the wl were on 3-22, am I right? So maybe in a few weeks we can hope for yet another decision. So dismal.

To those who are in and don't want to attend, please withdraw please!
 
Do we have to do anything to remain on the waitlist? Do we confirm?

It seems that was all in a massive batch. Anybody else out there who didn't hear back yet?

I'm guessing it's most likely rejection or acceptance for those who didn't hear back.



I think I'm gonna shut off my phone/internet for the next couple of days. The waiting has definitely gotten to me.

No, the email said our applications will continue to be reviewed; I would assume they would have explicitly stated if we needed to do something to stay on the list...

Get Columbia to accept me and I'll write a letter to NYU announcing both my withdrawal and your excellence. 😀
 
waitlisted, interviewed early january.

how many did they interview again? i dont see the point of having such a huge waitlist. seems more like a way to get people to stop calling them by just putting everyone on the waitlist. or is there actually a lot of movement? NYu is a pretty good school, pretty sure a lot have it as their top choice..
 
Got a rejection e-mail today after finding out about my rejection 3 months ago via online status...lolz

same i havent heard back yet either, interviewed early december. the waiting is killing me as well

Considering withdrawing since Sinai > NYU =p
 
To those that heard today...did your status change as well?
 
Waitlisted too :'(. Pretty disappointed but hopeful about getting off the waitlist in the coming months. Interviewed in late November

Maybe I'm still being too optimistic, but the waitlist letter said we were put there "based on our achievements" or something positive sounding like that... Some schools the waitlist is a death sentence but hopefully not here?
 
I speculate there will be some movement on the WL, since if we are getting waitlisted en masse, this probably means that NYU takes very little outright, and then waits to see how many of them would commit before taking more people.

I've been waitlisted a ton of times this cycle now, and each one says something like that. Stay optimistic, but don't read into that at all... as you can see there are tons of people on the waitlist.
 
There will definitely be a lot of waitlist movement. A lot of people that get into NYU also get into other top schools, and you don't have to look far to meet people at NYU that were accepted from the waitlist. But you shouldn't expect too much because the waitlist is probably very large.

Also the wording in those letters means nothing. I know one school has similar wording, yet no one ever gets in off the waitlist.
 
I was waitlisted yesterday. I interviewed in October.

Does anyone know roughly what chances of getting off the waitlist is???
 
my interview said ~30% of the interviewed kids get accepted... thats a lot. i can't imagine the waitlist move that much relative to the # of people waitlisted

According to http://www.medicalschoolsinusa.com

7320 applied, 954 interviewed, 529 were accepted, 165 enrolled...

I'm sure a large part of the 529 came from the WL. Hang in there all!

it's true, i feel like the majority of the people i talked to on interview day were accepted off the waitlist. we got this!!🙂

It's just terribly annoying the way NYU does this... I for one am going to stay on until the first round of acceptances off the waitlist (whether that be March or May), and if my number isn't called, I'm off to greener pastures in the Bronx...

This is a a very peculiar year, in the past at many schools, they have hit the waitlist for acceptances, but no so much this year. This is what I get from reading many threads. I guess we will have to wait, but I will make a guess that this year was the largest applicant pool in many years, and the schools have pick of the litter if this is true. I just don't think people are applying to that many more schools than in previous years. Bottom line, and this is just a hunch, we will see little movement of waitlists this year, I hope I am wrong about this, but that is my hunch. So if you are on a waitlist, not good news. Best of luck to all.

You're making assumptions based on what? Interviews are just finishing up for most rolling schools. Why would schools start accepting from waitlist before 1. They are still/just finished interviewing, and 2. many students are still holding their acceptances because they're waiting on March decisions.

Basically I understand your comment to mean the lack of people accepted off the waitlist so far this year makes you think there will be little waitlist movement this year? Dude, it's February, most schools don't hit the waitlist until after this month. So I can only assume your erroneous interpretation was so drain the hope out of those waiting. Please don't.

NYUdoes things differently than a lot of schools, with their accepting a bunch of people fairly early, and then not any more for a long time. NYU seems to use its waitlist more than a lot of schools, but may consequently also have a larger waitlist to begin with. I don't think you can glean what's going to happen at NYU based on other schools...

As AceXIII said, it's way too early for schools to be going to their waitlists yet...
 
Just because there is a bigger pool of students, they still interviewed the same amount of people. So, it shouldn't change the way it works much.
 
Late post, but I received the waitlist email on Friday as well. Interviewed second week in November.

You could be right, but history would be on Aces side so I think your assumption is probably less likely... im sure everyone hopes it is!

Such misinformation in your post. From what I've seen, the opposite is true. First of all the trend in the past 3-4 years has been no significant change in number of applicants. It's possible that the caliber of applicants has increased, but I don't see why that would be the case. Second of all, from what I've seen the number of schools applied to has increased. At several interviews at the deans' intros it was mentioned that there was a forecast of a record number of applicants at those particular schools. As such it should follow that there will be more waitlist movement than usual as applicants are forced to relinquish their multiple spots. Most schools don't release this information, but the one school that does (UMich) had the following to say
Total number of admission offers this year will be higher than originally forecast due to quality & trending high number of dual acceptances

The difference between UMich and a lot of other schools is that UMich tries to avoid taking applicants from the waitlist, so while UMich will simply increase the number of straight acceptances other schools will likely take more off their waitlists.
And yes your observation that the waitlists haven't been used so far this year is way off since most waitlists move in May. The few schools that take off the waitlist this early (Wake Forest, Buffalo) have had movement that is in line with previous years.

If you're going to err, try to not err on the side that would make everyone even more anxious.
