Fwiw I was the only guy on my interview day that was not from a top 25 school (my school is not even close). I think I could have performed better at the interview but they are definitely prestige ******.

my interviewer didn't even ask any questions about me. 0! he just told me to ask him questions since the very beginning

I assume you mean in reference to being accepted? No, I doubt it would mean anything. They most likely just want the info to be accessible to anyone who might eventually be attending.

I think they are a little mixed up in NY as well.. On the initial email it says 4am to 5pm, and on the follow up email (once you sign up) it says 4pm to 5am. Strange. Not to mention the whole 13 hour span issue.

My invitation email said 4PM-5PM... I'm 100% sure this is when it is. Don't you think 4AM-5PM is a little unrealistic?...🙄

did u guys know u can instant msg admissions staff over the website.
i had a nice little chat with someone over stupid english prereq.
turns out they dont accept online english incase any of u r planning on taking that this summer.

Many student now take gap years (the average age of first years at most med schools at orientation is 23.5 or so), so students taking finals isn't as big an issue. Plus, most American colleges have finals end of April or early May (though perhaps it's different in the country you're from?), so it's probably not the last week in April...

This is very true. There will be a lot of waitlist movement if trends from past years hold. Many applicants who are accepted have also been accepted at multiple top tier schools and a majority of them do not come to NYU. Expect movement.

There will be a second look. It is being planned.

Also, the interview does not count for anywhere near as much as it does at other schools. It is really more for you than for the school.

Congrats to all those accepted!

Thanks for the info... Because the waitlist seems to be so huge and the interview isn't a big factor, do you have any recommendations on how to show you're one of the kids who actually does want to go to NYU?

the essays weren't all that extensive for NYU, so I can't imagine they have a drastic impact.. perhaps stats and recs (and once you factor in that everyone has pretty decent recs, it boils down to stats and luck )
 
I'm not really sure how the selection process works in regards to what's most important so I won't comment. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they where doing things a little differently than they have in the past.

There has been a lot of talk and emphasis on recruiting a talented student body. The main reason they moved us out of Rubin Hall was because they were losing good students who didn't want to have to live there. In addition, there has been a ton of talk about more institutional scholarships for the class of 2015 to help draw competitive students to NYU over their other acceptances.

One reason for putting an emphasis on recruiting a driven student body is likely the switch to the new curriculum. It is somewhat more challenging I suppose and requires a lot of feedback from the students to help shape it for future classes. I would bet they want to recruit a student body who will take advantage of it and be active with helping fix what doesn't work (which isn't much). The first year class is almost at the point now where they have gone through everything that used to be done in the first year. Meaning, we are learning now what used to be second year material. The response has been very positive.

It's important to note that it affords us MUCH greater flexibility and it will be a huge advantage for NYU students over other schools. We have more time to do research, electives and projects that other schools will not be able to fit in. Pass/fail doesn't hurt either 😉

Yes -- although I'm not positive 0.5 is allocated explicitly for research -- there's a project but I think the point is to leave you with flexibility:

Not that I know of? (could be out of the loop though) but I think the admin, is willing to make changes if the student feedback they regularly collect indicates they should
 
talked to my premed advisor today. she wooped out a big book on schools waitlist policies... she said NYU groups their waitlist into 2 groups. kind of like high , and regular. And in a given year, up to half of the high list may be taken off the waitlist. I guess that means regular waitlist is hopeless. which is sad since they dont tell you which one you are on..
 
So i talked to an admissions representative over the NYU instant chat messenger asking her if my Classic Mythology course given by the humanities department would meet the english requirment. she said "yes anything from the philosophy, english, or humanities department is good"

but on their website it says english requirment = anything given from english department.

i emailed Dean Geneiser but she hasn't got back to me yet and I need to figure this out soon since i need to sign up for a course if i need to.

does anyone know if my classics course will suffice?
 
Just wondering - about how many people does NYU usually take from their wait list, and when do you think there will be some movement?

Let me be more specific about the curriculum.

The "new curriculum" involves many different things. Something called "pillars" was introduced with the class of 2013. Its basically a commitment by the school to focus on important diseases/conditions that will be revisited many times throughout medical school. They phased in a few more for us and will phase in some more for you guys. They have also made some changes to "practice of medicine" which is where we learn ethics, physical diagnosis, epi and a bunch of other things. This started with the class of 2013 and will continue to be refined in the years to come.

What I meant when I said "new curriculum" above was the move to the 1.5 year preclinical system, which is the biggest change and starts with the class of 2014. I have been surprised how well it has gone so far and there should be very few kinks for the class of 2015. They have put a ton of time into planning the transition and they are doing a great job phasing things in rather than doing one huge jump.

There should be some waitlist movement as second looks get underway and people get their financial aid awards and drop out of their other acceptances. Many people, however, will hold multiple acceptances until the last day they can before they make a final decision, especially if they are waitlisted at a school they want to attend. After that day (not sure what it is this year), I would expect the majority of the movement to occur.

Last week I got flamed for my comments, was not trying to be negative or deflate anyone on a waitlist. For the record I hope ALL get in on the waitlist, but just tried to put an "observation" on this whole cycle, not just NYU. As the poster said, NYU trying to get a "talented student body", not sure this means applicants with higher stats, but atleast some emphasis. My point has always been that I have a hunch, just a hunch that there are more applicants this year than in years past, and the schools are in a better position to select higher grades/mcat scores than in past cycles. With most of the schools accepting way over the slots they have, this could possibly be a bad year for the waitlist. One of the reasons I say this is because as I track other threads, not just NYU, some, not all schools are lengthing their interviewing cycle. One example is Albany, someone on SDN reported last week they have over 1000 applications to still review. Instead of going to the UC list early like they did last year, they are waiting until after May15th to do so. Again, I hope all get in from the WL. Best of luck.

First of all, didn't somebody disprove that first statement of yours?

Nonetheless, it's besides the point. NYU has a weird admissions process. I mean, wasn't someone floating the theory that nobody who interviewed on or after November 15th has been accepted? It sounds like NYU overaccepts at first, waits for people to decline acceptances, and then accepts more. If the November 15th thing is true, it has nothing to do with "higher grades/mcat scores." Do you think that nobody in the last two months of NYU's interviews had high grades or scores?

People didn't flame you for being negative. They flamed you for making a point without any persuasive evidence to back it up.

someone definitely floated the theory about post november 15th interviews. and as far as i know, there still remains to be a confirmation that someone who interviewed on or after that date was offered an acceptance. given the huge amount of acceptances posted in december, it is seeming like a pretty reasonable theory, albeit an unfair system used by nyu.

I took another look and it turns out that Takk interviewed and was accepted in late November, as was Dancerdoc from December. But only two SDN acceptances from the last two months of interviews? Something's up.

Well, Dancerdoc said she was URM (remember the incredibly inappropriate comment?) though her profile no longer reflects that. Not sure about Takk.

The point is-- NYU is funky with their admissions.
