someone definitely floated the theory about post november 15th interviews. and as far as i know, there still remains to be a confirmation that someone who interviewed on or after that date was offered an acceptance. given the huge amount of acceptances posted in december, it is seeming like a pretty reasonable theory, albeit an unfair system used by nyu.

I interviewed Nov 23 and was accepted Jan 25. Applied regular MD.

They may have been giving out acceptances, but maybe just a few/twenty. That and the fact that not everyone posts on SDN so...who knows? 🙂

Definitely. Maybe the better myth is that no one was accepted in the huge batch of decisions that went out at the end of February?

I was surprised by that too. Just from anecdotal SDN evidence, the waitlist must be pretty substantial, unfortunately. NYU has a decently sized class, too, like 160 students, so I would expect them to outright accept a lot of people, but 😕

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in med school adcom meetings.

Takk- were you notified by the normal adcom or by the diversity committee or whatever that is? The Virgin Islands seem pretty enticing for a diversity-seeking school...plus I saw that you speak exactly two more languages than I do- not bad!

Nope, just normal adcom.

In terms of late interviews, I, a classmate, and my best friend all interviewed in October and were ALL waitlisted. GPA's ranged from 3.6 to 3.9 and MCAT from lower to upper 30's and no luck for any of us.

Not sure how you want to read into it, but yeah..

I am kind of new to this thread so please accept my apologies if this has been addressed before. Does anyone know when the second look weekend is?

Thanks!

Hi all! New to SDN ... just wondering whether NYU is true pass/fail? Thanks!

Yes, it is.

My student tour guides said that records were kept of the top 20 (or 30, I don't remember) students in each class. They said this list itself was unranked, and that it was used solely for the use of determining AOA.

What's the truth to this? Do they give this info out to residency programs?

FYI clinical years are not P/F for the core/selectives.

I'm an applicant right now too for a clarifier so I can't say this with total certainty.. My tour guide said that they tried to get the class rank for an application after first or second year and they refused to give the info on the app so it seems like they are pretty into being P/F for the preclinical

Anyone know if you were waitlisted for NYU and you know you want to go there if accepted if you can include NYU on Fafsa and CSS profile for financial aid?

They only require FAFSA (I emailed about this. The lady also said more instructions would follow in early March. So anytime now...). And yea of course you could include them.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is CSS? Is there any reason to do this and FAFSA?

CSS PROFILE is a financial aid application available through College Board. A centralized thing, kind of like AMCAS, that some schools use.

And no there's no reason to do it. You only need FAFSA (see my post above).

Does anyone know if the webcast this Monday is going to be available only from 4-5pm? Will they record it and make it available for later viewing?

Thanks!

I don't know about a recording, but I think the powerpoint will be available. You can find last year's on the website, so I don't see why this one won't be there.

They did record last year's... it is still available on NYU's website (I forget where, but I did watch it about a week ago). Therefore, I would assume this year's would be available as well (in addition to the powerpoint).

I shouldn't respond so quickly 😀

It starts at 4:00pm eastern time and goes to 5pm, also eastern time. Are you on the west coast? If so, it would be 1pm to 2pm for you.

i am semi-excited about this...
first question by students gonna be, so...whens second look..?

I'm also interested to know when all of this "additional information" (financial, housing, etc.) is going to be sent out.

Did everyone else know that fin aid priority deadline was march 1st?

How have they still not fixed the AM/PM mix up in the webinar emails?

Hi all! What is the site location of the webinar? The same website from last year? How did everyone hear about it? The MSTP admissions didn't send out an email...

everyone has a unique link so its only accessible by one person.

they send us a bunch of emails about it, so maybe its MD specific?

I think that first URL isn't unique, but the ones you get after def. are.

what was that fafsa code? I forgot to write it down. thanks in advance

 You can find it on the website too, if no one wrote it down. (I don't have it, but I remember it being on the website from when I filled out FAFSA)

🙄 No offense, but who asks questions like this (during the webinar)?! You can either find all of this stuff on the website, or it's very conducive to salesman type answers of little substance.

Edit: Perfect example is this question to Dr. Fritz about how well he felt he was prepared for academic medicine after graduating NYU. How do you think he felt? He still works there, he likes the place so much that he's doing this webinar, and you're asking about his personal, subjective feelings about it. How does that benefit us? I suppose there's some tiny bit of benefit since he didn't say, "Oh man, this place doesn't prepare you at all!"

Edit: And really, people don't know that dual degrees usually take 5 years and there's funding available for international stuff? Am I confused about the degree and ease of availability of the internet in this country?

Ok, I'm glad to hear that they're going to answer all the questions that were sent in..

(The questions session isn't over, so I might retract this. But we aren't hitting the ground running here.)

Yeah I don't think a lot of those questions used 'deductive reasoning'.. Or when someone asks 'Do NYU students go out?' ... Do you expect them to say 'No, actually. Not a single one of us goes out and we study continuously... We also rarely eat and take showers.'

Agree with these sentiments. Overall a good impression of the school (not surprising). Definitely was surprised no one got a Q through to the MS3 student...really, Bellevue is the crux of my interest in NYU.

We'll see what happens for those of us on the WL. Was hard to enjoy the presentation knowing that you may not even have the chance to matriculate. Fingers crossed for good news whenever the WL starts moving. NYU is an awesome place to be <3.

For real, this is probably the med school that's in the most exciting/cosmopolitan/whatever word I want neighborhood out of any in the country (I don't know about the neighborhoods of the LA and SF schools)
