2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeaaah... North Carolina Greensoboro... what's the deal with them? Seems like the uncertainty about this has been going on for quite a while now.

I got a call from my POI at UNCG yesterday, and she said that she'd be calling again Friday to make official plans for an interview. I'm not sure if all of them are going out Friday, or if each professor is doing theirs on their own timeline... she said something about a faculty meeting though, so I'm guessing all of their invites are going out very soon!

Does anyone know if Binghamton is done sending out invites? It looks like the posted invite was from a POI so does that mean I still have a chance? 😕

Thanks for the info! I don't know whether to be nervous or happy about that since I haven't heard anything from them. Although my POI isnt a "she" so that keeps some hope alive

For all those who've been eagerly awaiting DePaul's invites, DePaul (Child Clinical track) just popped up on Gradcafe - apparently it was a mass email, so maybe if you didn't get it, you didn't get it. I didn't get it so join the crowd if you didn't either! But if you applied to Clinical-Community, there may still be hope for you 🙂.

Yeah, thanks for this info chickadeac! Good to know.

Yup, I'm out. Master's it is then.

That's right, UhOh. They send emails to the tracks separately. So there's definitely still hope for the community track applicants. 🙂

if the people who have heard from BU and Memphis could PM me your POIs i would REALLY appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi everyone! Congrates to all of you who received invites. Unfortunately most of my schools have popped up on gradcafe and since I have not heard anything yet I have been thinking about what I am going to do to improve my stock so I can reapply this coming fall.

So, I would like anyone's opinion on this if you are willing to lend a hand. I am thinking about taking 3 additionally psychology courses this summer to raise my overall GPA and psychology GPA. But, anticipating I get A's in all three courses this would only raise my overal GPA from a 3.64 to a 3.66....and raise my psychology GPA from a 3.62 to a 3.67.

Do you think this small increase in GPA will be worth the money of taking all three of these classes? Or is this increase too small to make a difference to PhD admission committees?

Thanks for your help.

Has anyone heard anything about UVA (not Curry)? I'm thinking of emailing them to see if they have sent out their invites yet, but if someone else has already done so..... Thanks!

I doubt a marginal increase would make a difference in your apps. There might be a better investment of your time, for instance GRE scores.

Also, what's the opportunity cost? If you could otherwise be spending your time working in a research lab getting presentations and pubs, then the classes definitely aren't worth it.

You might also think about contacting schools after they've made their selections and seeing if they can give you feedback on why you weren't selected; it might be something other than your stats.

Good luck!

Hey Everyone,

Congrats and good luck to all who have received invites. Would those who have received invites for the SDSU/UCSD neuropsych track mind sending me a PM I have some ?'s about POI's etc. Much thanks.

Don't give up yet!! It only takes one invite 🙂

I personally believe that the increase in your GPA would not raise your chances at all. I think maybe more research experience, higher GRE scores and LOR/Personal Statements and some luck would

Just FYI - I emailed UT to see if they had sent out all of their invites (according to the first page, someone had been invited in mid December!). The reply - no, he does not believe so. He has only heard of one or two sent.

Sorry about the awkward grammar in this post. But good news for those of us waiting for UT!

Anyone else still haven't heard anything at all? Most of my schools have appeared on here or gradcafe... 🙁 So discouraging...

So this is the first time I am posting on this board, I usually just look at what everyone else says, but I am feeling so frustrated over UNCG. I had an initial phone interview about 2 weeks ago, I thought it went really well, and then nothing. I am starting to loose hope in UNCG

I noticed that a few people have mentioned SDSU/UCSD. Can the people who received invites please PM me? Thanks, and congratulations on the invites! Also, does anyone know if SUNY Albany's done sending out invites?

i'm blaming my still empty inbox and ringless phone on the snow. most of my schools are in the NE (even though most people have heard from someone at them), so that's a legitimate excuse, right?

I keep telling myself the same thing...boo snowy weather! While I too would appreciate a snow day...my inbox would not.

...YES - at least it accounts for parts of it. I know that some schools have been closed yesterday and today due to the snow.

Good luck. 😉

Congrats to everyone who has gotten interviews! Anyone else anxiously waiting to hear from UMBC or Georgia State? I know UMBC is closed today due to snow.

I'm waiting for UMBC, do you know anything about when they plan to start contacting people?

Called to check on status and they said I'm not officially invited (invites have gone out) or rejected yet. So others might be in same situation.

Called to check on status and secretary said:

Committee meeting today, so there will be 2 emails sent out soon (one for invitees and one for people still under consideration).

Ha, I was about to do that actually, so thanks for doing my work for me. 😉

Called to check on status and secretary said all invites have gone out. This was hard to hear 👎

secretary said there was a group interview last Monday and they generally pick applicants out of that pool.

I called UVM today, all invites have gone out. I already knew this but I guess I needed solid proof :/ So that's my first rejection. I also called Lehigh and U of Miami Counseling, and they are both still reviewing apps and have not sent anything out yet.

Faculty meeting Monday to decide which applicants to invite. Applicants who are chosen will receive invites via phone/email next week.

a few invites still haven’t gone out. those on alternate list haven't been invited yet. Otherwise invites have gone out.

Faculty will make decisions in a week or week and a half and send out invites

Awesome! Thanks for doing this! Do you know if your status there still says that your LORs havent been recieved?

I'm so disappointed that my top choice didn't even invite me for an interview. I know they received hundreds of applications, but it seemed like a perfect match and I thought my SOP was solid. I'm trying to console myself with the fact that I got an interview at my 2nd choice, but I REALLY wanted to go to other program 🙁 I guess at least I know and don't have to wait 3 more months for a rejection.

Hope you all have better luck with your top choices :xf:

I cannot tell you how many of us who are in doctorate programs re-ranked our top choices following interviews.... Maybe the choice was perfect on paper, but in actuality it might not have been the perfect fit. (Just trying to put a more positive spin on it for you.)

Good luck with your other interviews. I am sure you will end up somewhere that is a great fit for you.

I also got a rejection from my top choice already. I was really dissapointed because I had very positive feedback from a POI there before I applied. I just keep telling myself that I will end up where I am supposed to...

I know how you feel though, it sucks 🙁

So sorry to hear that, ClinChildPsy13, but if they did not recognize your brilliance and great fit to the program, then this was not the place for you! Things have a weird way of working out, even when it is not what we had planned for ourselves. I am sure the interview offers will continue to pour in, and you will find a great school that wants you and all your talents. :luck:

Sorry to hear that clinchildpsy, I feel the exact same way. I thought that my top choice was a PERFECT fit, and although I knew it was a bit of a long shot, I hoped that I would at least get an interview. I have a couple of others interviews though and am still waiting for 6 schools to send out info, so I am hopeful. Not hearing anything from your top choice is very disappointing though.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point - I really got the impression from my phone call yesterday that they haven't made all their decisions just yet. Give it some time, it's not over til it's over 🙂 I really hope you get good news from them soon!

I called today to check on this. The person in the admissions office told me that your POI will access your letters when looking at your file and then your LOR should be changed to received.

Awesome! Thanks for doing this! Do you know if your status there still says that your LORs havent been recieved?

Is anyone going to Oklahoma State for an interview and flying out on a Saturday? I'm wondering how I should arrange to get from Stillwater to the Tulsa airport because the bus from the OSU Stillwater campus to the OSU Tulsa campus doesn't run on Saturday and a cab would be quite expensive given the distance. Looking for another idea. Please PM me if you can help!

Has anyone heard from University of Southern Cal yet?

Invites went out quite a while ago, sorry🙁 If you check the main list you'll see it. I think it was maybe in late December or early Jan. I contacted them around that time and they said that they have a rolling process and would be contacting people over the next couple months, so there is always a chance I suppose. :xf:
