2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's in my top 2. I keep checking my email every chance I get to see if I received anything. Did you submit your application for their School Psychology PsyD program, as well?

No. I just applied for clinical. My interpretation of that school psych program email was that if we wanted to submit an application to it, that it would eliminate us from consideration for clinical. What did you do?

I believe UMKC (clinical phd) is a little behind due to weather. I called them last Friday and they said the snow set them back a few days. Perhaps this is also the case for counseling.

Has anyone heard from the Univeristy of Cincinnati?

So last week someone said they called UTSWMC and found out invites were supposed to go out by Friday... however, Dallas was hit with an irritatingly ill-timed storm, so I'm guessing they're about a week behind. Has anyone heard any updates on their timeline? Stupid mother nature.

I applied to UTSWMC and have not heard back yet. I am from the Dallas area and I know schools were shut down the majority of last week. Also, with all the Super Bowl madness I would imagine that they are at least a week behind. I will let you know if I hear anything within the next few days. Good luck!

I submitted it, since the email said it would not impact our consideration for the clinical psych program. I wonder if that is what's taking them a while to make decisions.

Ah, well that would explain why they were not listed on last years invite list. Where did you guys read that? I didn't see anything on the website...

Assuming we're talking about the CSU (Ft. Collins) PhD counseling psych program, I too have read that they do not interview prior to acceptance.

I didn't get accepted into any of the clinical psychology programs I applied to 🙁. Because I'm interested in child psychology I decided applying for a few school psychology programs would be a good alternative.

However, the school psychology programs I found were not funded...meaning I would have to pay tuition without a stipend. This means I would be thousands of dollars in debt by the time I complete the 5 year program.

The average salary for a school psychologist is between 43,000 and 63,000. It would take MANY YEARS for me to pay of my student loans.

Does anyone know a school psychologist? If so, how did he/she manage the financial burden? If you've applied to a school psychology program, what are your plans?

I'm considering just waiting until next year and reapplying for clinical programs.

Just got a rejection from Wayne State via email.

Whatever though, I am staying grateful for the interviews I do have and am looking forward to the few places I haven't heard from yet.

Got to stay positive.

Hey guys. Just finished my first interview and thought that I would start contributing to the forum that has kept me entertained so much during the waiting process.

Virginia Commonwealth University - Interviewed, email and phone call notified on 1-19
Auburn - Rejected, email notified on 1-20
University of Louisville - Rejected, email notified on 1-21
University of Vermont - Rejected, letter notified on 2-5

Can you let us know how your interview went?! 🙂

It was either earlier in this thread, or last year's thread...they all seem to blend at this point 🙂

Gradcafe shows last year's notifications for CSU (counseling) started around the 16th of Feb. with rejections coming via email & snail mail, and acceptance via phone.

AB🙂

I've applied to a combination of clinical and school psy programs, and I can tell you that while most school psych programs cannot guarantee funding, many of them do have some level of funding available (and many of them fully fund a majority if not all students). I've interviewed at 2 schools so far that don't have guaranteed funding, yet all of their students are currently funded. There's generally not as much money to go around in school programs, but most programs will tell you that there are plenty of opportunities available, you just have to be more proactive in searching them out than most clinical students would have to be. The programs I've interviewed for have said that their students are sought out across the university and community for a variety of positions even when positions aren't available directly through the school psych department. I haven't met any school psych students at this point who will be graduating with large amounts of debt. If a school has absolutely no funding available that likely is a reflection of a bigger problem with the program.

School psych is a great field for people who are interested in child psychology, especially since the school is such a central part of a child's life. There are shortages of both practicing school psychologists and school psych faculty across the country right now, so the job market for recent grads is generally quite strong. I would encourage you to apply to some school programs, although most of the deadlines have already passed. Best of luck whatever you decide! 🙂

I was hoping/expecting to hear from Fordham today, too! I tried calling to find out what was going on, but I kept being transferred and then got an answering machine.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who did not receive an email, let's hope that they come tomorrow... :xf:

Just heard from them this morning, got an interview. Hope you do as well! 🙂

I think it went really well. The grad students were unbelievably nice. The faculty were great (even got to sit in on a graduate class). And I hope that they all liked my interview, I think that it went pretty well personally, but its hard to tell what they thought.

I was told that they would have some admission decision for me in about three weeks.

Congrats! How many faculty members did you interview with?
Two faculty members. Three graduate students. 30 minutes with each, which seems long but when you actually get in there, the time just dissolves away and before you know it, its time to move on to the next interviewer.

Thanks AsYouLikeIt. I have applied to a school psychology program and will do more research concerning funding. I also read there was a shortage of school psychologist. Best of luck to you and thanks for the information and encouragement.

Anyone hear from UIC? I keep calling the office and they keep saying that they are in the process of sending out invites, but I have not seen any, even on GradCafe. Usually there are some hints here and there, so at least I have an idea of whether I'm going to hear from them at all...anyone?

Anyone know what's going on with Fordham PhD (School Psychology) interviews? The deadline for invitations was today, but I can't find anyone on any boards that has heard from them. Any word?

You guys may have received this already, but I just got an email today from Fordham about interviews. Looks like they're March 1st (for school psych). :xf:

Just received a voicemail from St. Johns talking about the open house but then the woman who left the voicemail mentioned interviews. Just wondering if anyone spoke to her and knows what the call was about/ when they will be extending actual interviews.

I got the same call from St. Johns. It was the same content as the email sent the other day, letting us know that the Open House is NOT an interview for the Clinical Psych program, and that invites for interviews would come from the department.

Ah, St. Johns, please stop calling/emailing unless its about an invite...

Anyone hear from Hofstra this week?

Ahhh I was literally was just invited for an interview! My phone died and the administrative assistant left me a voicemail. I called back to schedule my interview time and campus tour. The interview is on Fri. 3/4, but I think they're still calling people, so don't lose hope yet!

Fingers crossed for Rutgers! It's my last school and one of my top choices too.

Has anyone heard from them regarding interviews/rejections for their Clinical PsyD program?? I've only seen one person post about receiving an email, and a couple others who said they were not done looking at applications yet.
I have not heard from them either. Goodluck 🙂

Congrats!! I hope I hear from Hofstra soon :scared:

Rutgers PsyD is also my top choice!! Good luck to all of us!

Any one know the link to last year's acceptance thread? I'd like to know when acceptances tend to go out at various schools, as the post-interview waiting is a little challenging!

I had an interview for a Clinical Psych PhD program 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard back...how long does it usually take before you hear back?

Just got a call from my POI at the University of Washington inviting me to their in-person interview (went through 2 phone interviews already) on February 18. Woohoo so stoked!!

I know people who went to St. John's. St. John's definitely loves communication.

So while not an official rejection, I was informed that the invitations for visitor's day have already went out...

Uh oh. 🙁 that interview date may conflict with another interview I have. Anyone know how flexible programs can be about their interview dates?

Got my first interview!!! 😀 All rejections or no infos until now, other than an interview waitlist. Woohoo!!!!!!👍

I think it depends on the program. For Hofstra specifically, I asked if there were any other interview dates when they called today and unfortunately 3/4 is the only one 🙁 (not the best date for me either)... oh well.... maybe you could ask to have a phone interview though or come on another date without the official tour and everything?

I'm waiting on them too. I think someone posted a few days ago that they would be sending out invites late this week. So hopefully in the next few days :luck:

Last year Cincinnati sent invites on Feb. 10 (the Friday two weeks before the interview date). I contacted Cincinnati and Karen (the graduate coordinator) said the only thing she could tell me was that the interview day is 2/25. Therefore, if they're on the same schedule as last year I expect them to send invites this Friday, 2/11.

Invite received today for interview this Saturday!

Anyone going taking LIRR out there by any chance? Or could any current students on here shed some light on the frequency of the N20 bus from the train station to campus?

Can the person who received the UMBC interview PM me and provide me with some more information? Was it a mass e-mail? From a POI? Thank you!!

Ugh......🙁

OMG Rutgers PsyD is posted for today's interviews!!! Who heard, and was it a mass email?

That sounds accurate bc I talked to my POI and she said they should go out late this week. Fingers Crossed! :xf:

I haven't heard anything from Rutgers Psy.D. either and would love more details. Last year, I think interview invites didn't go out until the 14th or 15th.

Hmm, on second thought, maybe this is a false alarm. The website confirms that the interview is 2/28, but the post says 3/3. Also, various people have called Rutgers and interviews are not going out until next week. Interesting..

Yeah, I think I am going to ignore the post, until I see further evidence 😀

Good idea. On GradCafe, someone reports receiving a school Psy.D. request from Rutgers on the 8th, so maybe something got last in translation here? That's why it's good for people to pm the coordinator with all of the details. I'm just saying. 🙄
