2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received a phone call this morning from my POI for an interview at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, the Clinical Psych/MLS program. The interview is scheduled for 2/12.

I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone who heard from A&M would message me re: POI or how they received their invite. This is one of my top choices...I could tell you who my POI is and you could just say yah or neh. Thanks a bunch and Congrats on your invite! 😀

:luck:

I also heard from Nebraska Lincoln as well as Eastern Michigan.

I also heard from Nebraska-Lincoln and I thought EMU wasn't sending out invites until next Friday?

Hello all! I'm completely new to this message board so I don't know exactly how this works... but I've been reading it for a few days now and thought I'd start contributing!
I've been invited for interview at Purdue University - clinical PhD program (contacted on 1/13 - interview wknd is 2/18), University of Tennessee - Knoxville - clinical PhD program (contacted on 1/14 - not sure when the interview is), and IUPUI - clinical PhD (contacted on 1/14 - interview is 2/4). I don't have time today to go back through all the old posts to see who wanted to know about those, but if you want to PM me with what school you want to know about or your POI, I can respond with my info.

Also, if the people who have heard from Northwestern (Feinberg), Drexel, and Kent State could PM me with their POI, that would be much appreciated!!

Good luck to everyone on this arduous process!!

😕 Anyone here who applied to... UMCP, Ph.D. in Counseling Psych and got invites??
I got an e-mail from them this week saying that faculty would be meeting at the end of the month to decide who to invite for phone interviews.

Hi Folks!

I received an invite on 01/14 to interview at USC (South Carolina) on 02/07 for the joint clinical-community doctoral program 👍. Could the other person who received an invite please PM me their POI?

Thanks!

I would not contact a school to ask that. I do think that it would be annoying.

My opinion is that it depends on who you ask and how you ask. I think that if you do, just be a pleasant person with a legitimate reason to ask. And don't call them everyday.

Just got an interview invite form University of Arkansas - Fayetteville!!!!! So excited!!!

Interview is Jan 23-24...currently trying to figure out how I can get affordable travel so last minute

Email was sent from the director of the Clinical program

Do you mind PMing me your POI?? Thanks so much! Congrats!

Has anyone heard anything from Fordham, Yeshiva, or Teacher's College for the Clinical PhD programs?

Unless you submitted your app to LIU way early (and even if that's true, there's not necessarily reason to be concerned), I wouldn't necessarily worry if you have not yet received an invite, despite the fact that they have begun contacting for interviews. Remember: initially LIU had a 12/1 deadline, and encouraged applicants to apply even earlier for earlier review. Then on 12/1, they extended the deadline to 1/5. If they're more or less reviewing according to date of receipt, perhaps doing a little math will give you an idea of when you too will hear news. If you waited until the 1/5 deadline, it may take longer. You can also consider this: On 1/5, I stopped by admissions to submit 1 more rec letter and confirm that my app was complete. The admissions person there informed me that my app was indeed complete, had passed admissions review, been sent to the program, and I would be hearing soon. He was right -- I got my call on 1/8. So, if you don't know your app status, perhaps if you call grad admissions to innocently ask whether your application is complete or they require any more documents from you, you may get someone on the other line who'll give you some clue where you stand. Good luck everyone.

According to their website (not just for clinical, but across grad programs) "Notification of admission decision for will be sent via email beginning mid-February." Seems to follow last years' forum postings, especially from gradcafe.

I read the websites, but in my experience the dates they provide are not always accurate.

Does that mean they decide without interviews? Or do you think that's when they invite people to interview?

They definitely invite people for interviews. Take a look at the FAQ section from the Fordham Clinical PhD program website, especially the "What Are The Factors That Influence Interview And Acceptance Decisions?" section

http://www.fordham.edu/academics/pr...ate_study/phd_in_clinical_psyc/faqs_30936.asp

Also look at the last couple years' invite threads, it looks like they have notified around 1/19 and held interviews in late January or very early February. Look at previous years' interview invite threads.

Could anyone who's received an invite from Drexel please PM me? Thanks!

Has anyone heard from University of Virginia? I know their interview date is February 11th, but I don't know when invites are going out/have gone out.

There's a post up on gradcafe saying someone has a pre-invite phone interview this week, then they'll make their decisions for interviews so I think we have some time left to wait.

I applied to CUNY but haven't heard yet. How many people have gotten invites so far? I know last year they had sent them out by the 12th so I'm assuming I won't get one at this point.

I am interviewing for a phd program next month and they offered me a place to stay with a current grad student. My wife would also like to visit the town to scope out potential places to live, schools for our child, etc, just in case I am accepted. My question is: Will it hurt my chances of being accepted if I stay in a hotel with my wife? Thanks for your input.

This may be a dumb question, but please bear with me. I applied to a CUNY program at Queens College, but all materials had to be sent to CUNY grad. center. Queens College will provide a response, correct? And I know Queens lost their accreditation, but its just a curiosity for me at this point.

No, this should not in any way hurt your chances. You may miss out on some info you might get in casual conversations with your student host. Just be sure to attend all functions (including more informal student 'meet and greet' social ones). I personally would hesitate to bring my spouse along to these events, just because I would want to appear fully focused on the program and my presentation as a potential student and would not want to distract from that. Good luck! :luck:

I called CUNY on Friday because they have been having issues getting my GRE scores (I sent them 3 times so far in 3 different ways, and FINALLY they are there), and they said that they are still reviewing applications and sending invites. At least one person on here has received an interview, but I am still waiting to hear from them too. Good luck to you! :xf:

I think I'm starting to lose hope...🙁

I received an interview email from the DOA on Friday, Jan 14th from Palo Alto University - PGSP for their Clinical PhD program. Interviews are Jan 28-29 and Feb 11-12.

Could the person with the Emory invite be kind enough to PM me with their POI info? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

To those who received an invite to UVA- congratulations! I'd be thankful if you could PM me your POI. Or I can send you mine and you can say yes or no. Thanks 🙂

Ditto! Thanks.

Can whoever received the interview invites to UNL please PM me their POI? Or I can send you the name of mine. UNL is one of my top choices, so I'm pretty bummed to see it show up on the list...does anyone know if they are still giving out invites? 😕 Congrats to the lucky people who received an interview!

What is the difference between pre-invite phone interviews and regular interviews? Are pre-invite interviews to determine if they want the regular interview for admission? If you don't get a pre-invite interview can you still get the regular one?

Yeah. Not all schools do a phone interview before they do an in person interview. In fact, I have been in a situation where one POI in a program just invited all his pile of applicants directly to a in person interview date while another POI from the same department called his pile of applicants first for a pre-invite interview to make sure that they knew enough about the program and still wanted to come/and that the POI still wanted them to come before extending the invite.

However, some schools skip the phone thing altogether.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, it's one of my top choices so I was a little heartbroken when I hadn't heard by the 12th. Good luck to both of us!! :xf:

Could whoever heard from University of Denver tell me more about the way in which they were invited for interview and their POI please?

Can those who have heard from Northeastern's Counseling PhD Program please PM me their POI? Thanks so much!!!!

I agree that whether or not you choose to stay with a current student shouldn't hurt your chances. However, you do make an excellent point--when on interviews, you want to appear as focused, interested, and dedicated as possible. Thus, while having your spouse travel with you shouldn't affect your status with the program, you wouldn't want to forego interview day activities to spend time with your husband or wife. You'll also want to avoid bringing him/her with you to said activities unless it's explicitly allowed by the program. When in doubt about the acceptability of a spouse coming along, ask. As a rule of thumb, I'd definitely suggest against bringing him/her to any formal meetings, while having him/her with you for informal events is often ok.

Thank you for the advice. I definitely see why I should not bring my wife to any of the events. I was concerned that I would seem less focused and dedicated if I refused the housing that the graduate students provided.

Me too. I applied to 15 and haven't heard anything!! To make things worse, my top choice just showed up on the list, and I still haven't heard from them 😡. I'm trying to stay positive but it is def getting hard.

Been lurking for a while now.. Has anyone else not heard anything at all?? I really don't know what I'm going to do if I don't get in anywhere. I applied to 14 clinical Ph.D. programs, 5 with January deadlines, so I wouldn't have expected to hear from them now, but I'm really worried I haven't heard from anyone at all- especially one school on this list which I thought was a great match for me! Ah 🙁

Hi,
I have applied to six programs only and have not heard anything either!! Very frustrating - you are definitely not alone. I already make plans for re-applying while there is still some hope in the back of my mind...this application process is certainly not for cowards...😡

I now know that I have to apply to more programs than I did...could have figured that one out earlier. But well

In your case, with that many applications etc., I am sure it is too early to assume anything. Hang in there.

Good luck!!

Yup..it's definitely the low number I applied to!! I am glad I have a target to blame 🙂

But seriously, I had the thought, that maybe, next year I will have an interview and get into a program I did not apply to this time and will say to myself: this is the perfect program and I am soooo glad I did not get into a program earlier. My way of self- soothing. At least that works! I have control over something here!!!!

Stay positive!!:luck:

Hi There,

Can the person (or anyone who has already PM'ed them) please let me know the POI at University of Denver? This is my absolute #1 and I am anxiously awaiting news.

Also, I didn't realize that schools would contact you on a Sunday. Does that mean this holiday Monday is fair game as well?

hi,

could the people who heard from emory and denver PM me.

thanks.
