Someone recently asked about creating this type of thread just like last years, so here it is. While its good to stay positive, especially when so early in the process, rejections do happen. But remember, it only takes one!

I got an official letter in the mail Saturday 1/15 for Minnesota CSPP program. They don't do interviews (which I hadn't known) and guess I didn't make the cut. Being in the sunshine state, guess it wasn't meant to be for me to be in the tundra (or near grandma) next year! 😉

*Please keep this official, I've been noticizing a bunch of Debbie Downers thinking they aren't getting in anywhere by process of elimination, but please state only official letters or emails or phone calls of rejection* Don't forget, there is still hope - it's not over yet!

I got rejected from Oklahoma State the same day interview invites were sent out. I like to think that the POI I listed decided not to take a student.

I was actually the very first SDNer to receive a rejection last year. Luckily, it was counterbalanced by my first interview invite in the same day, but it still kind of freaked me out. 🙁 HOWEVER, I eventually wound up with a few admission offers anyway. 🙂 So, while early (or any) rejection does suck, it in no way a reason to give up on the cycle... It really does only take one!

Suggestion: turn this into a list thread like the interview invite one. That way people will know which schools have sent out rejection letters and that they still might be in the running for if they didn't get a letter.

Thanks for the suggestion krisrox, I actually got a PM rejection too so I figured its better for anonymity as a list also. So if anyone rather PM it to me, feel free. I'll try and keep it as updated as possible!

Would the person who received the University of Alabama rejection mind PMing me how it was received (Mass email, as a result of an inquiry to status, etc.)? Thanks!

Basically just got a rejection from Eastern Michigan Clinical via email, saying that they had 142 applicants, invited 50, and I wasn't one of them. I'd like to think it's because they screwed up with GRE scores, with me getting a letter in the mail saying that they don't have them, but then me calling them saying that they actually do have them. Who knows... 🙁

Got a rejection from Auburn via mass email. They had 200 applicants and selected 25-30 for interviews. I was expecting it, but the first rejection always hurts... 🙁

Yep, I also just got a rejection from Auburn... also, I got a second e-mail from Eastern Michigan, saying that my POI that I applied to (who originally told me she wasn't taking students) decided not to take any.

Rejection email from University of Colorado in Boulder. They have received 250 applications and can only accept 5 students.

Rejection email today from University of Louisville (clinical PhD)

Where are all the Argosy rejections? They must be coming soon.

Another for Louisville yesterday. Amusingly crafty email I might add- the way they worded it- I didn't realize I was being rejected until a few seconds after I read it!

Got a rejection letter from Loyola-MD in the mail over the weekend. Apparently they had over 350 applicants for only 15 spots.

Rejected from U Northern Colorado Counseling (via mail)! Yahoo!!! 😉

Someone wanna start a WAITLISTED thread?

I think the rejection one is enough for me to keep up with based on my busy schedule....

UNL (Clinical PhD) rejection received 1/25 via email from secretary:

"Thank you for applying for Fall 2011 admission to the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Each year our program receives applications from many qualified individuals. This year was no exception with over 240 applications for 8-10 openings. All applications have been carefully reviewed by members of our clinical faculty. While you have many outstanding qualifications, I regret to inform you that you were not selected for admittance into our program. Because of the large number of applications, we are not able to give further individualized feedback. I wish you the best in your pursuit of additional training in psychology. Sincerely, Dennis McChargue, Ph.D. Chair, Clinical Admissions Committee DM/jl "

Wasn't a super great match, but the first rejection still sucks 🙁

To look on the bright side - rejections can be nice. Kind of like closure in a way, rather than not knowing and fretting and them never telling us (like some schools choose to do). We can move on and look forward to another. Although no rejections would be even nicer. :luck:

Agreed!

Although it is definitely easier to feel this way when you have a couple of interviews lined up, not sure I would feel like this if I had nothing yet

I guess this isn't a super official rejection, but it is disappointing nonetheless. I had been corresponding with my POI at Virginia Tech (since before the apps were due, when she requested a phone conversation). She kept telling me I had a great background and everything, so my hopes were high for this school. She e-mailed me a few weeks ago saying that she was interested in my application, but she wasn't sure about being able to offer me an invite because all of the faculty members had to follow a process and such. I e-mailed her yesterday for an update, and she said that she won't be able to invite me for an interview because of very limited funding this year, despite making it onto her "short list." Poo.

By mass email forward:

"I regret to inform you that we cannot accept you for admission to the Psychology - Forensic Doctoral program. I would like you to know that this decision was reached by the program's admission committee after careful consideration and examination of all the materials you submitted. We very much appreciate the effort and time you spent in crafting and compiling your application and the interest you have shown in The Graduate Center. In recent years, we have received a large increase in the number of applications and our entering class size dictates that we must limit our acceptances to a small proportion of those seeking admission. We wish you success in your future academic pursuits.Sincerely yours, Les Gribben Director of Admissions"

I think was more upset about it being a forwarded mass email than the rejection. 1 down 12 more to go...

just received a rejection letter (emailed) from U Michigan. Clinical.
not surprised since they have extended invites quite a while ago.

Lame sauce... just got what is basically a rejection e-mail from Alabama-Birmingham Medical/Clinical saying that I wasn't invited for an interview, but my app is still under consideration... I had high hopes for that program...

No rejection or interview requests yet 🙁 I guess that is better than nothing.

Received official rejection this morning via post: "out of 350-some applicants, you were not chosen to interview."

It's amazing how quickly one's thoughts shift from "palm trees and 365 days of sunshine," to "they have alligators, huge bugs and the prospect of hurricane evacuations, anyway." 😛

Dan Gilbert would be proud of you!

Email from Drexel Clinical PhD - not invited to initial interviews, i.e. rejeced...

Hope this makes those of you happy who are waiting on Drexel 🙂

Received rejection email from DePaul University for Clinical Community Psychology Program. Apparently, they are only admitting 3 students this year.

Got a rejection email from Michigan State Clinical PhD today.

Got a rejection email from Purdue's Clinical PhD program.

Rejection via e-mail/website letter for the Counseling PhD program.

Don't know if this is on here yet, but UMD-CP sent clinical phd rejections via email and snail mail.

Rejection via email from Fordham Counseling. This is actually the first program I have heard back from! Very discouraging.

Thanks for keeping us all updated guys. I know it sucks though 🙁

PS Just wanted feedback, do you prefer it out of order alphabetically (as it is now) but in order received/updated... or should I alphabatize them all?
Maybe it doesn't even matter!

May I ask how you were notified regarding the rejections from BC and Lehigh?

You may certainly PM me if you'd prefer.

Thanks, and hang in there!

I emailed them and they told me that if I didnt get any invitation that means i am not on their final list.

So far I've received 2 official rejections, University of Vermont (Clinical), and University of Southern Mississippi (counseling). 👎

Ah, well that makes sense. Thanks for responding!
