For those accepted: What is the deadline for submitting our tuition deposit to hold our place in the class?

was hoping to get an acceptance today, unfortunately my status remains stagnant at "interview complete"...

Yea, I don't know, I have a bad feeling about this.

I would not worry yet. It was the first day of acceptances, and they said going to committee depends on how fast your interviewers are at getting your evaluations in.

For those who were accepted...
Has anyone received something for the TUportal yet? So they can log in?

I have not received anything, not even a deadline for how quickly we need to accept the offer of admission by paying the deposit.

I heard we should just pay the deposit to hold our spots. Supposedly we can hold multiple acceptances until may 15th.

So did anyone receive the "Correspondence Mailed" status like last year's thread?

Or is everyone who didn't receive an acceptance still at "Interview Complete?"

i just got an interview today for st lukes! (yay! interview is set for nov 17th!) but seeing as though there are only 36 spots for that program, im getting kinda nervous. do you think st lukes applicants will still get put into the larger applicant pool for the general temple admissions? or is it over for them if they don't make the 36? if anyone has any information, i would really appreciate it! thanks! 🙂

I heard on my interview day that it is easy to switch from the Temple program to one of the satellite campuses, but difficult to switch back if you have already been accepted at one of the satellite campuses. They also said that almost everything gets their top choice, all the way until like April or so where people start moving off the waitlists and there's not as much freedom. I might be misremembering, but this gives me the impression that you have a better chance of getting in if you are aiming for St. Lukes! I don't think you should worry about it 🙂

Did any of the acceptees interview with Dr. Wolfson?

there goes my last hope. i guess im waitlisted...sigh

What makes you say that? 🙁
Did you get a letter in the mail?

no, but others claimed to have interviewed with the same interviewer and have received an acceptance. This leads me to believe that the delay is not the interviewer, but rather, the fact that they are only giving out acceptances and waiting to give out alternate responses. unless mwang20 interviewed before me and the interviewer hasn't been present at the adcom meeting since I interviewed with her.

Yeah, same here. I interviewed with Dr. Wolfson September 22. When did you interview with her mwang?

Congrats! When were you complete? Temple's making me nervous.

Thanks! I was complete 7/20 and pretty sure I'd been passed over when I saw other people who were complete after me getting interviews. But I guess they do re-review periodically. Good luck!

is anyone who is interviewing (or has interviewed) at st. lukes going to temple for the tour the day after? if so, how are you getting there? the lady from st. lukes suggested that i either rent a car or take a taxi. it's about 60 miles away, so the cab fare is going to add up real fast.. any other ideas?

the email said we are "encouraged to go" so it seems important.. but if theres no cheaper alternative, i don't know if i can go.

btw @snickerdoodle80, i applied in mid august, and i received the invite yesterday! 🙂 it might come any day now!

Anybody receive anything in the mail yet?

Also, is the Temple waitlist ranked?

And how is the movement on the waitlist?

I remember a first year telling us during the interview that half the class came off the waitlist so I've got my fingers crossed... No idea on the ranked or not ranked, but I imagine every school is "ranked" in some ways even when they say it's not... I seriously doubt they re-open every single file every time a spot opens up. Nope, nothing in the mail. Still says "interview complete." Auuugh.

Did most of you stay with student hosts? I've emailed a bunch of them on the excel list and have not gotten any responses back yet and I'd rather not spend the money on a hotel... Would the admissions office have more names?

Any local people interview here that drove to campus? How much was the valet parking or the hospital's parking garage? I never carry cash so I want to be prepared.

I drove and parked in the garage across from the MERB on the corner of Tioga and Broad..I believe it was $12.

There seemed to be a limited number of names on the student host list when I was trying to find a host. I had to try 6 or 7 people before I found one (who turned out to be a really nice, helpful, and friendly person!!). It's probably even harder to find hosts now, because I interviewed pretty early there and I was actually the first person to stay with my host. I don't think there's any kind of "reserve" list for hosts, but it might be worth trying! Also, how long has it been since you sent out e-mails? They might not have had time to reply yet. It's not just you though, I think it's generally a bit difficult to find hosts at Temple this year.

Also, here's the academic calendar for the students. It shows all the exam dates. I would recommend scheduling either well before an exam, or anytime immediately after an exam. That probably would make finding hosts easier as well (I'm not sure if this was your problem crixx, just thought I would throw it out to others).

Well, to those of you still hoping for an interview, maybe I can help you out. I am going to cancel my Dec 15th interview sometime this week, so I hope someone benefits from it! And Good Luck Everyone!

Half the class?!!! Holy cow. Considering how high the tuition is, I guess that's possible. Furthermore, I'd imagine that people who gain acceptances to Temple often gain acceptances from a slew of other schools.

One thing, I thought that waitlists at almost every school were stagnant last year.

Thanks for the reply Kiwifruit!

I am interviewing in early November at Temple. I tried to find out hotels by Temple and the hyperlinks for Temple medical school or in the email Temple sent me do not connect me to hotels close to the medical school. Also, I am flying in, so what is the best way to get from the airport to the medical school?

They're probably steering you to those hotels for a reason - Temple's in a rough neighborhood.

If you're looking to save money and don't mind taking public trans, there's a train from the airport that goes into downtown Philly. From there, you can take the Broad Street Line north to the Erie Station, which is just a few blocks from the office.

All of this. Avoid staying in the area. Temple's in a pretty rough 'hood. But SEPTA (our public transit) is pretty good about getting you around, especially via the subway and rail, IMO.

So it seems like everyone that's interviewed was pretty impressed/pleasantly surprised. Am I getting that right? I'm looking forward to my interview there next week. Anyone have any tips?

Best of luck to you! I loved the interview day there. There is a certain vibe there that's hard to explain, but I felt welcomed and embraced.

Even though I've never met you, I can tell you have a great sense of humor that comes through in your forum posts, and you're intelligent and articulate. You will involuntarily convey the same things in your interview if you're sincere.

Expect the day to go fabulously, there's no reason it won't :woot:

I just found out this weekend that I was accepted! 😀

Has anyone been rejected from Temple pre-interview yet? I have been "under review" for over 2 months now. Will they keep me hanging throughout the whole cycle, or is there reason to believe they may still be considering my file?

Oh, thank you so much! 😍 I'm very flattered.

And also, WOOT! Congrats! You are going to be a DOCTOR!

I have been under review here FOREVER as well.

SEPTA police shoot man in Erie Ave. subway station

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/p...ce_shoot_man_in_Erie_Ave__subway_station.html

I immediately thought of all the people coming into Philly for their Temple interviews when I heard the news. Welcome to Philadelphia!

Temple is in a great area if you interested in issues related to poverty/social inequality and health, drug addiction, urban violence etc. , especially if you have a public health leaning.

Yeah, well, that's no surprise. That said...

SEPTA police shot a man Saturday night in the Erie Avenue subway station on the Broad Street Line after he pointed a gun at a SEPTA officer, according to authorities.
The encounter began at 7:24 p.m. after SEPTA police received a report of an armed man on a southbound subway train. Officials held the train at the Erie Avenue station while SEPTA police responded.

The man left the train and was intercepted on a stairway by transportation police, who shot him once in the chest after he pointed a gun at a SEPTA officer, according to SEPTA spokesman Richard Maloney.
The man was taken to Temple University Hospital.

One of Temple's biggest selling points is that you get to see this kind of thing rolling into the ER on the regular. So that's cool.

As for the people that have been under review for awhile, I wouldn't sweat it just yet. I'm in-state and my stats are average (GPA) to above average (MCAT) for the school, and I was under review for almost 2 and a half months.

I hear you. I was just in Philly for Jefferson (I believe I met you there) and would have liked to have knocked out the Philly leg of the journey in one shot. I should have sent them an e-mail. I actually feel like Temple is more in line with my interests (PH, underserved communities, etc) than a lot of the schools I've visited.

Yup, all North Philly trauma basically goes to Temple. And, well, North Philly is the most hardcore area of the city in my opinion. Pretty tragic urban landscape honestly.

Anyone local been following all the stories about the wonderful Philly cops stealing drugs and money from drug dealers and brutalizing people left and right? Last year the Philly Inquirer's expose on a certain set of cops won the authors the Pulitzer. It's like swing-era Chicago here except not as glamorous...

Don't worry guys, apparently there really is hope for those of us who have been "under review" forever!.... I submitted the secondary on 7/10, and got an interview invite yesterday!! So excited! Hang in there!
