Just received an interview invite (my first!) - IS, submitted mid-July and complete around 8/1 when LORs got in.

just wanted to check , there's no way to check our status online right?

an update that some folks might find helpful:

I called up today to check everything had been received by them (which it had), and the lady I spoke told me that the admissions committee had just started to review regular applications and that I should hear something in the coming weeks. She said couldn;t give me a date, but that it shouldn't be too much longer. All in all, she was very nice and helpful.

Hope that helps folks

Can someone list the phone number to admissions. I tried looking on their website but when I click contact it gives me some odd error page. I wanna make sure my app is complete. :scared:

Just got an interview invite. I'm in-state, 3.65, 31Q mcat. I applied the first day basically.

I also just got an invite. In state 3.98, 32T. Scheduled for Oct. 5. You think that is early enough to hear on the first date (October 15th)?

Just wondering if anyone knows the interview/acceptance data:

Internet says: Just over 800 interviewed and just over 400 accepted (over 600 that are in-state). MSAR said something above 700 interviews too.

But UMDNJ site for class of 2013 says: 622 interviewed and 384 offers (359 in-state offers).

Did they greatly reduce the amount of interviews for the class of 2013?

This is the data for Robert Wood Johnson, but I'm assuming that NJMS's stats are probably almost the same:

Fall 2008 Admissions Statistics
Total admissions data 3378 applied, 520 interviewed, 336 were accepted, 166 enrolled

In-state admissions data 1197 applied, 405 interviewed, 260 were accepted, 140 enrolled

Out-of-state admissions data 2181 applied, 115 interviewed, 76 were accepted, 26 enrolled

Women's admissions data 1675 applied, 277 interviewed, 189 were accepted, 92 enrolled

Minority admissions data 1479 applied, 220 interviewed, 168 were accepted, 78 enrolled

International admissions data 0 applied, 0 interviewed, 0 were accepted, 0 enrolled

I'm interviewing at NJMS Friday Sep 3 - is anyone else scheduled that day? I contacted the admissions office with questions regarding the interview (it's one-on-one, wouldn't tell me who my interviewer would be).

Does anyone who has already interviewed have any feedback?

Interview invite received as well!
Hope this helps

Great resource Panda -- there is far more fodder for interview practice than I can even work through in a week. Thanks

There are few things that will come up in almost every interview at NJMS. interviewers have a sheet they have to turn into the adcom. one make sure you can verbalize your motivation for going to medical school/being a doctor clearly and effectively. they will ask you about healthcare in some way or another. ive interviewed 3 times and they asked in a different way each time. it can be "what do you think about healthcare?", "what is the percentage of uninsured americans?" or anything in between. they will also ask about your parents and siblings. they are looking to make sure your parents are not pushing you into it among other things. those are a few things i remember but overall they are pretty easy going interviewers. that healthcare question was the only time it was a little stressful. good luck

Interview scheduled for 9/17. complete around 7/20

Interview 11/1 - all that was left when I logged in.

Either way - im thrilled!

They sent me an interview invite via email with a link to logon to an online portal.

No link till you get the email interview invite

It seems as though everyone who had an interview had to log on to a website to schedule it...for my invite, I had to call the office and schedule it with a Ms. Houston...did anyone else do it this way?

hey guys i cant seem to find description for the required LORs anywhere. I just got my secondary today.

I had to call Ms. Houston as well. Have mine scheduled for 10/13. 3.29/32T -- staying strong for the low GPA-ers 🙂

Hey Guys, had the interview today.
It's as they all say - really low stress, the interviewer really works to make you feel comfortable. Good luck to the rest of you!

bobow - any questions we should know about?

And good luck - hope you hear soon.

I dont have mine till Nov

and if you don't mind, when were you complete?

Interview got moved up like 6-7 weeks! Now interviewing in Sept - much better than 11/1

i was complete 7/28 (submitted it before my primary was even verified lol). Yes, i'm in-state, which is definitely an edge for UMDNJ. Good luck!!!

Any ideas on how many people they interview per day?

There were about 10 of us on the tour. I don't think anyone else was coming in that day.

Just interviewed here today, and the interview was very low key and casual, although it did last 60+ minutes. The types of questions HammockUp mentioned before did come up, as the interviewers do have a list of questions they are supposed to ask. My "healthcare question" had to do with who should be responsible for providing healthcare to the poor, and how the recent reform will affect this. I was also asked about what qualities would an ideal physician possess. Anyways, the bottom line is that they ask very predictable and easy questions, so don't stress very much about this one! 🙂

Well since you're from Michigan, your chances for getting into NJ is pretty slim, since they favor instate students

Hello,

Does anyone have any information about Student interviews at NJMS? They seem to be optional and you are supposed to sign up if you are interested. Is this recommended or is it an unnecessary additional stressor?

Please respond asap.

Thanks.

@BrainPain. When I interviewed, student interviews were not offered or discussed. There is an optional tour led by a 1st year students, don't know if that's what you're thinking of though.

I did the optional student interview when i interviewed last week.

Only 2 of 7 of us took them up on it. It was actually harder than my faculty interview - but might have been just because the student wasnt as good at interviewing.

Yeah, I interviewed on 9/27, and I definitely didn't hear anything about student interviews... just curious, robflanker and BrainPain, how did you hear about them? the original interview invite email?

EDIT: oops, actually, interview date was 9/17.

ai - u interviewed the same day i did

They emailed me asking if i wanted one

I got an email asking if I want to sign up for student interviews. They may have just added this to reduce the confusion.

I had a student interview the first 2 times I interviewed and was never asked if I wanted one at the most recent interview. The first 2 times I interviewed in November and accepted the option of a student interview. The third time I interviewed in August and it was not an option. Seems like it has to do with when you interview.

just recieved an invite on 10/4

I was complete on 8/20

3.5, 30

I interviewed on 9/15 and a student interview was not mentioned in any correspondence. I agree that it might have to do with when you interview...

I sent my secondaries in way earlier than when I was complete. That might have something to do with it.
